Normally, Yugi does not go for fast easy victory because that would go against the principles of heart of the cards. 1 shot would go against heart of the cards principles. This Yugi must be recreated where he acts like Seeker the rare hunter because it is all about taking shortcuts to draw Exodia. So even if Pegasus did not win, at least he broke Yugi's heart of the cards confidence.
The timing of the MINDO SCAN into Exodia is just so perfect. Like, Pegasus seriously thought for a moment that knowing Yugi's hand would give him an advantage in the duel
Which is funny, because I think Pegasus made the rules of the game to have loopholes specifically so he could win against the Pharaoh without technically cheating (and thus incurring a penalty game). Like I think he had a rule that using supernatural powers to cheat is legal so he could use his Millenium Eye, which is why nobody else in the series gets disqualified for using magic to cheat, and why Espa Roba was only busted for cheating when they found out he was doing it through mundane means when he openly admitted to doing it with ESP. Plus there is the established case of Relinquished, an OP card that was never banned from official play because it was never released. All that effort, and he still created a way for the Pharaoh to instant-win regardless.
I like the part where Pegasus is a plotting maniac bad guy that mad the card game and then in real life people were throwing piles of money into yugioh cards. Toonworld, then thousand eyes

It was actually genius writing to give Yugi Exodia for Episode 1 because it made him feel unstoppable to the audience. Then with him losing Exodia, it felt hopeless heading into Duelist Kingdom, which got the audience cheering for his comeback.

That's pretty much why Exodia was written out of his deck. Every duel would've been the same predictable "stall for Exodia", no room for flexibility. Even the cards he tends to lean on, like Dark Magician, Summoned Skull, and Curse of Dragon, have ways they can be used with other cards.
Yugi losing Exodia was heartbreaking, I wish they reboot DM, or give us a prequel for what happened in the past before Zork, and how he sealed him first time.
I’d like to think that when Weevil threw Exodia off the ship, Yugi would slowly retrieve the pieces as some kind of gift from other duelists and would be able to summon Exodia in the final battle again
