100%. Honestly I think having full command of your character's movement is enough in and of itself to propel a beginner player from low level to like low-mid level. Before you even have to think at all about matchups or strategies or even combo game, literally just being able to move the way you want to and knowing how to L-cancel will have you beating a fair number of 0-2ers.
My buddy played soonsay in pools at a seattle tourney a couple years ago and after my buddy took the L he asked if he wanted to hop on our setup to keep his hands warm and he was down. Super down to earth dude and his fox fucking moves
I learned how to play melee by playing on slippi, and at first my only goal was to play well enough for ppl to give me a second game. If I could just make it close I’d be happy. I had so much fun back then. Then I started winning games and expecting to win and that’s when I started raging and having a bad time if I didn’t win. Not sure exactly what lesson is to be drawn from that but I already typed this whole thing out so yeah
it's interesting as a new players because avg players (that attend locals) have told me to learn neutral and footsies, but hearing these pros tell us to prioritize tech skill makes a lot of sense~
There was a time where mid level marth's and Shieks could regularly beat out mid level techy foxes (before 2013ish, back when multishining was the pinnacle of tech skill for newer players) but back then offensive tech overshadowed defensive tech (crouch canceling, slide offs, and shield dropping weren't really as big as they are now) but now good tech skill requires both offensive and defensive skill sets
I love hearing people who play Fox and win money with this game explaining to me I must play for fun and enjoying it. They must be big Starfox fans, right ? Lucky is the only one giving a good advice.
Soonsay won the lottery with that one.
Soonsay absolutely hit the nail on the head here
I feel like this is all great advice, especially what lucky said about movement.

The hardest part as a new player is finding someone to play with. As soon as people realize you aren’t good they start BMing or they just leave
I suck too I’m on ec if you are too hmu we will play
