The amount of cut content for this mod is absolutely crazy. Really shows the scope and the amount of work that goes into each character & Stage. I really enjoyed editing and doing the voice over for this video. I learned a lot and hope you’ll enjoy it!

Actually there's a guy who added in Ryu, Ken, and Cloud Spider-Man was also added to a version of this but if all this cut content was realized as a fan diy add in

@@lemmingscanfly5 considering the last trailer had a “Happy Together” montage showing off the other trailers and this cut content video seemingly saying “this is stuff we wanted to put it but didn’t” idk why they wouldn’t if they were going to continue. I could be wrong though but it just seems like it may be it
The loss of DK Jr. really hurts. Hearing that character win song makes it hurt more somehow.

True, I think they should have gone with 8 bit sprites. Don't know if it's harder to do it, but that's what I would have gone if I was implementing him in the game.
I'm in shambles that DK Jr. didn't make it in. Such a great idea for an echo fighter.

I'm assuming PMEX REMIX has a TON of cut content.

Smash Remix Lost Bits moment!
To make this perfect, they just need to redo the game code to run at 30fps without drops. This will make the definitive experience of this game. It's not an easy task, but I believe it's possible.
There were animations I did for Sonic that went unused for the time I was on the team, which I completely was able to understand; I made him too cute. The entire team was so nice about it and knew I had potential regardless. It was a fun learning experience.
The fact that my favorite classic Nintendo character was even considered, let alone worked on for a while, makes me so happy. You'll always have a huge fan in me, Donkey Kong Jr. Always.

It's a shame Meowth was cut very early on and no one wanted to further develop him. We almost had all of the officially known cut characters brought to life in this amazing mod.
Meowth was never planned for 64. No actual verifiable source for this exists.

Hearing about the development of things I enjoy is an experience I love almost as much as the finished product! We rarely get to know which characters were cut from official Smash games, so this was a breath of fresh air!

I'm actually bummed that DK Jr. didn't make it in. I get that he's not super popular, but man, I love it when old retro characters get brought back into the limelight.
I'm a little bummed that Mr. Game and Watch could have actually made it in and didn't, but at least he was considered and we did still get the Flat Zone stages and music. Really cool vid otherwise and special thanks to the Smash Remix team for making this amazing mod.

On one hand, Waluigi can't seem to get a break even with a mod like this, but on the other we got Conker instead, which is incredibly *based.* I really hope that he also can be added into PMEX/REX Remix sooner rather than later to complete the Rare Reunion… Thanks for all the hard work guys! :)

It saddens me that Mega Man from Legends was not pursued. It is the one character I was looking forward the most.
Same! I think he would’ve been a great addition to help represent the N64 era. (And I mean, come on. Volnutt is cool!) It makes me extra sad that he was pretty much the only one on that “Planned Characters” list to not be worked on seemingly at all. I don’t think he was even mentioned in the video.
It really surprises me that they mention the list was sort of made just to keep the fans at bay and ultimately not to be taken seriously, yet the team ended up working on each character on the list at least a little bit EXCEPT MegaMan. He would've fit so well.
EDIT: just noticed from the other comments that therw was one other character that wasn't worked on at all. "Lanky, Chunky, or Funky Kong". I guess the characters that had "and/or" were the ones that were just on the list and not taken seriously by the team.
Man weirldy enough, i was one of the people really hoping for game and watch despite being really far fetched. The fact that he was even considered is crazy to me. Anyways, what a great project you guys have made!
As cool as it would have been to see EarthBound 64 Lucas, I'm glad we got GBA Lucas so we could see what he would look like in on N64.

I hope all the cut characters can be added to Smash Remix officially or just fanmade especially Waluigi that would be awesome!

It’s weird to think that in another timeline we could’ve reasonably had DK fight alongside a time traveling version of his father, kind of weird that Diddy Kong was never considered at all, but Jr. Would’ve been really interesting to say.
I absolutely love this background information about the team, learned lessons about what worked well and what didn't, and going out of your way to name the individual contributors responsible. I bet lots of other project planners and leaders could learn from what you've done well. Thank you for sharing the cut content as well. Loved hearing a bit about your process and showing off all of these things in such an organized way. Cheers!
Damn... I was hoping my boy Mega Man Volnutt would at least have been a cut character too, but from the looks of it he probably wasn't considered. Oh well.
Same feeling here. The fact that they even put him on the list kinda hurts. I was always hoping for some kind of MegaMan rep and Volnutt would've been perfect. Heck, I'd even have settled for X or classic MegaMan. Guess that's not gonna happen though. Rip.
Its so interesting how the developers skills were getting surprisingly better as the mod progressed. They really werent at all experienced with coding, yet they managed to deliver one of the best and most impressive mods of the franchise...

What a bummer to see all those Wario stages being unused, specially because they're from the Wario Land side and there's barely any content from those games in official Smash games, Maze Woods and Uncanny Mansion would've made for fun stages imo.

@@and...and..Same! I think his Crystal Shards design is greatly under-appreciated. (But it’s neat to see the newest King Dedede design in the more recent Kirby games use it for inspiration.)
I always thought they would go with his Crystal Shards look. If it was 1999, it'd likely look like the left version that was planned and then scrapped.

Snooplax!!!! I was just thinking about smash remix the other day and if we’d get a new video anytime soon. This did not disappoint! Haven’t watched it all yet but I hope we see more added to the already stacked game! One of my favorite games ever. Much love to the team!!!
The amount of cut content is insane. Shows how much work youve put into this. Hopefully some of these ideas see the light of day in some capacity, since alot of things that were scrapped for being impossible at the time, and very much possible now

Really interesting to hear about! Scrapped ideas and “could’ve beens” are some of my favorite things for any media, I’m very happy you documented them here.
It seems as if, even though there are Bomberman fans in the team, they don't know about the 64 games, which is a bit confusing. Bomberman Hero and TSA have good models to take inspiration for a good Smash Bros model, there has some ideas for moves that could work and stages from all three games. As Bomberman fan, it's a bit sad to know that it was cut. :(
Here's hope for them to go back, but I'm loveing Smash Remix anyway. Thanks for all the hard work!

@@pringles_ssb yeah, my comment wasn't exactly fair, I admit. It's just frustrating, but I understand it isn't that easy. Like I said in the end, I'm glad we have what the smash remix the way it is today. The team have done a really good job.

Y'all should totally consider adding the cut soundtracks into the random music selection.
Man most of this cut content looks amazing! Wish Boshi could of at least been a skin. Game&Watch I'm surprised they put a lot of work into him! Really hope a lot of these guys get in one way or another.

This mod is so pure and heartfelt. I get kinda teary-eyed seeing how much creativity and time went into this, it's such a labour of love. As a kid I would draw my own versions of smash bros games with my friends, adding in all these extra characters and stages and imagining their movesets and stuff. And here you guys have gone and actually done it. Just beautiful.
The fact we could've had Mr. Game & Watch in Smash Remix would've been awesome! Good thing he is my main in a few other games.

I am legitimately sad Waluigi and Game & Watch didn't happen. Game & Watch looked basically done and Waluigi suffers from the curse of never being in Smash. Save for Project M.

Honestly DK Jr. would've made so much more sense than Dark Samus for this project, given the rest of the cast is centered around that late 90s time period
Very cool stuff, but damn, Chunky Kong could've gotten in? That'd have been awesome. Feels like DK characters get super under-repped, so that would've been awesome to see.

The amount of cut content just proves that no matter how cool it would have been to have these things, you made sure that everything you make is perfect and professional to make this the *PERFECT* game which i just absolutely love about this community!!
I'm kinda shocked that James Bond isn't part of the planned characters list. Heck, I actually assumed they were gonna pick him as a "final" choice in Smash Remix.

R.I.P. the playable Pichu, Bomberman, Meta Knight and Mr. Game & Watch especially, though.
Ngl, part of me is sad we didn’t get Game & Watch, Hero, Bomberman and DK Jr.
Replace Dark Samus and Lucas with G&W and NES reps to make the game feel more like it could’ve released back in 1999, replace Goemon with Bomberman for a more realistic and popular Konami rep, and DK Jr. honestly would’ve made a better joke character than Mad Piano given the details about him here. Then if you wanted an SNES character use Mega Man X. It’d be perfect.
Also part of me is still confused why Sheik was included and yet Peach not Zelda were not considered at any point (inb4 I know the dress but other Smash 64 models for these characters do exist)

Wow there’s is so much to talk about, characters like Boshi, DK Jr, and Raichu would be cool amazing clones to have, the other considered characters like Hero, Mach Rider and freaking Vaporeon I’m surprised were even considered, rip Meowth an honorable mention.
I remember a few of these from when I was on the team. Stinks to see they got cut :(

We could've had Hero?! 😭That would've been so cool! I can see the Command Special being complicated to implement though, so maybe they could've made his side special his down special instead. I wonder if that Hero model is available to download somewhere though..

I like the way a lot of the cut models and 64 Kickstarter models look. However the ones we got instead definitely fit Smash 64 better instead of being a modern design translated into a 64 design. Also, I’m glad we can play these cut ideas now!
Except for Dark Samus... hate that there's a gamecube character in the mod

As much as I would want everything, it makes sense to have rules set in place and go based on plans. It takes a lot of discipline to be able to not put everything you've always wanted into smash bros. Being able to code stuff in games is very powerful, but you use that power responsibly to make sure everything goes well. Incredible!
If Vaporeon was originally going to be invited in Smash Remix, I think we all know where this is going...

Is like, im happy for all the consideration and the giant noticeable amount of work the team made, we are very happy with all the things that had be made, been super impressive, but looking at the cut content is more painful that anything else. DK Jr. seems like it was a pretty far along idea, it's too bad that character got cut.
Dawg, those DKC and Mother stages look SO sick! I think, lack of imagination is what was happening during that time? no inspiration maybe? because these for sure had potential to be in the ROM. I'm actually glad an attempt was made to try and create all of this. Hope this serves as fresh, new inspiration for future mods.
I would have loved to see Tingle make it in, but there's only so much that can be done and you can't expect a mod to be worked on forever. You guys did an amazing job with this. Well done.

4:35 A little side-tangent; Based on the Goldeneye editor's compatibility with DKR, JFG and Mickey's Speedway USA, would it perhaps also be able to work on Dinosaur Planet (another game built off of Diddy Kong Racing's engine)?
