      Thank you sir, I have a bunch of plans for this little rascal, gonna be a fun build, I figure I am a month out on getting her lit,but it is really cold now anyhow so it is the perfect time to mess with it. I was able to get the old smoker rolling smoke yesterday before I had to go to work and smoked some chicken breast, legs, thighs wings etc, turned out awesome. We will all have to meet up sometime and eat here at the house sometime. I think you would enjoy it as well. Thanks my friend and have a blessed week,

    An Irwin unibit would probably work for the other hole, but they are spendy. Ummm, I guess there are some cheaper ones out there too, but Irwin is the ones I have. If I was closer I have one you could borrow. Great job!

    I am getting a vertical gas smoker and want to ditch the thermo so just ordered this one to replace with. Was gona buy a look alike brand for 1/2 the price but being able to calibrate this is huge. Cant wait to get my new smoker and thermometer.
    Currently using a charbroil offset charcoal smoker I've had for a out 7 years. I want a set it and forget it smoker on the days I cant baby sit my offset.

      Oh good deal, congrats on your new smoker, I think that would be ideal for those days we don't have the time to baby sit, but still want great food. I love the idea and would love to hear some feedback on your new unit after you have had it for a while. I do love this little thermometer, it is still working strong we have them on three smokers, the two I have and the one I rebuilt for my brother, I put them on his as well.

    • @HeartlandMakesAndOutdoors
      @HeartlandMakesAndOutdoors  Год назад

      Oh man, have I got a surprise for you. I just recently uploaded a video with a couple of tips on maintenance on the smoker mixed into the video. The video is called Smoking venison the right way or something like that, just look for recent videos I have posted. But in short, this smoker is still working like a champ,. I have moved from Oklahoma to East Texas and it was one of the first items I packed up and brought here. I still use it average once a month and pending the weather, more than that. I love th smoker and for the money, it is hard to beat especially if you do a couple of the mods I have suggested. Go to a store that has more than one and look them all over prior to your purchase and pick out the best made on, you will see some of the flaws because they dont have a true quality control. If you are at an academy store, if they have one on the showroom floor, asked to see if they have any in the back. I found mine in the back and it was mint compared to a couple with miss welds and bends. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope to hear back from you.
      Have a blessed week.

    • @HeartlandMakesAndOutdoors
      @HeartlandMakesAndOutdoors  3 года назад +1

      They are a standard size, that is not to say some odd things couldn't happen, but you should be fine with going with one you can buy online or locally and it should fit. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed and happy new year.

      I measured mine, I think most of them are standard sizes though. So you can double check by measuring the one you have.

    A low quality smoker with a high price tag.

    • @HeartlandMakesAndOutdoors
      @HeartlandMakesAndOutdoors  Год назад

      It's definitely not a smoker for every one. I was looking at Lone Star, and Yoder when I finally went with this one,. It will fit my needs. The True Oklahoma Joes, prior to whomever bought them out, was a company in Oklahoma, they made really good smokers, I have done a video on that one as well. It's a re-work on it, because it was so old. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and know it is appreciated. If you have time come back and let us know which one you got, I am always interested in what others are using to make some goof fun home smoked meals, and with you comment, especially on a budget. Keep us posted and have a blessed week.

    I have had so many issues getting with this smoker getting up to heat. It holds fine but can be a challenge to get hot enough? Have you had issues with airflow or otherwise?

    • @HeartlandMakesAndOutdoors
      @HeartlandMakesAndOutdoors  4 года назад

      I have been using stick burners since I was a kid. So I have not had any issues with this one. I have added additional steel to the fire box as well as the main chamber. It I fill the bottom of the main chamber with water it does even better and is with in about 10 degrees from side to side. But that is added work. On long cooks I do that. Let me know if I can help in any way. I hope you have a blessed weekend.

      I have not cooked on it yet, we have been in a burn ban most of the winter. I have also been busy with life. But yes we plan to add a shelf and do some other internal mods to make it an even better smoker. I hope to start working on it again this next month, so if you have time be sure to check back with us as spring starts, we will be doing more mods to it, burning it in and getting it ready to start smoking etc. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
