  • Do you have a Yoder smoker or other offset smoker brand with a tight fitting door? Good BBQ means controlling your temperatures but you cannot always get that probe's cable through a tight door without damage. This Yoder smoker thermometer probe port installation tutorial is your answer! This offset smoker mod I show you takes the worry of crushing and shredding thermometer probe wires when they get smashed by that heavy steel door. For about $5 bucks and some simple hand tools every Pit master should have in their garage toolkit I show you a brilliant solution. I did this on my awesome Yoder Loaded Wichita smoker. Easily install this probe port for your smoker or BBQ grill!
The key to the success of this best smoker probe port is the conduit fitting 49093 (below for full description). It has the perfect rubber pass through grommet and collar nut to hold your wires in place with minimal air leakage. All you need is a 1" hole saw capable of drilling through steel. A really expensive step-bit would work fine to. Just take your time and keep the work piece well lubricated with cutting oil like you put in your tucks' engine. I've checked for some similar parts going for 4-times as much! So you will be convinced this is the best probe port for smoker if there ever was one!

Hey Todd, good job on the port install! Nice clean tidy job. The small amount of smoke that may come out of that small slit is really negligible.

Great video! How many of those probes can you fit at 1 time?

That conduit fitting is made from zinc. Zinc emits dangerous chemicals in high heat. It's cheap but not safe for bbq grills. Use stainless steel to be safe.

I agree, but the quantity and location next to the exhaust makes this highly unlikely to still be emitting anything measurable. Cheers!

      Zinc melts at 787.2°F
If you're abusing your meats at that temperature you should be more concerned about cancer.

Stop waving your hands and stop rocking back and forth. Still an awesome video.

or ........ just drill a 1/4 to 3/8 hole (depending on probe size) and use sand paper or a small round file to remove any burrs . less air gap than what you're using and it cost nothing . if you want to plug the hole when you're not using a probe use a stainless steel bolt on the inside with a wing nut on the outside . take care and thanks for sharing .
