  • Welcome to the Dunnage Garage, I am Scott. I am modifying the Jeep Again. By now I have a Roof Top Tent (RTT) mounted on the Jeep. The issue, however, is that my satellite radio will not work with the RTT in place. Roof Racks and RTTs that cover the antenna block the signal. Here is how I resolved it in the 2017 Jeep Wrangler JKU.
    If you do not have a satellite radio, then your normal AM/FM radio should work. Unfortunately, I am picky about my music and news. Most of what is in the media is not “news” but agenda... It's really sad!
    By moving the antenna to the cowl, I will be able to pick up signal normally, and hopefully get access to the stations I look to for news, music, and spiritual relief.
    "Consider carefully what you hear," he continued. "With the measure you use, it will be measured to you--and even more.” Mark 4:24

    I just bought a 2016 JK Rubicon. I’m having the same issue. Would it be easier just to buy an aftermarket magnetic antenna? Just to run the wiring either to the back of the radio or up the pillar where you disconnected the antenna?

    • @DunnageGarage
      @DunnageGarage  Год назад +1

      I am not sure if the magnet would effect the antenna. This was free and I works great for me. I have noticed that if I park next to a tall building i loose reseption, but it is nothing makes me regret moving the antenna where I did. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. @@DunnageGarage if you purchase a Sirius satellite antenna, it has a magnet on the back so that it’ll stick to your vehicle. I’ve used that style several times. I noticed on your video that the antenna connector is the same minus the plastic clip around the connector.

    Will cutting the wires prevent unwanted updates?

    • @DunnageGarage
      @DunnageGarage  6 месяцев назад

      I am not sure. I didn't cut mine to ensure they would still work after the re-install.

    Captain obvious but it looks like you took the roof off to get the antenna out. I have a hardtop and i hope that i dont have to remove it to get at the antenna.

      Yep, you have to remove the roof...I know the freedom tops had to come off, I think I simply moved the rear portion back enough to gain access.

    Thanks for sharing this. Have you found a substantial difference in how your radio is receiving since relocating the antenna? Thanks again.

    • @DunnageGarage
      @DunnageGarage  2 года назад +1

      It had better reception in the factory location. However, it works better than if the antenna was under the RTT. I also don't even notice it on the hood.

      @@DunnageGarage Love to hear a little more detail on this. I already relocated the antenna on my JL just above the driver side sun visor via the maximus-3 bracket and my tent still interferes when I am traveling northbound. Do you feel your windshield/cab blocks the signal regularly when traveling certain directions? Or do you have constant signal regardless of direction barring no obvious obstructions? Appreciate any feedback!

      @@theFreakitiki I will have momentary losses in reception that I didn't experience before, such as going under a certain railroad underpass, or near a power relay station. It happens so infrequently that I barely notice it. I do nor recall a loss of reception when driving between Colorado and Nebraska. To date, I am very happy with the modification.

      @@DunnageGarage Appreciate the quick and detailed response. Based on that, I'll be looking to adapt this concept on my JL very soon. The location and wiring is actually very different but the concept will be the same. Thanks again.
