It’s funny as I watched this video and a couple weeks later picked up my built to order JLR, on the 200+ mile back my rear speakers stopped working. After I got home, I re-seated all the fuses and never had the problem again. Thank you Matt! 💪
One of my favorite mod's I've done was install the Hothead Headliner for my hard top with the sound assassin strips. Not only does it make a HUGE difference with the reducing the heat in the southeast but, the Alpine speakers sounds much better immediately after install. The bass is much deeper and improved with less road/wind noise. The quality of these headliners are top notch and I highly recommend them.
my JKU Rubicon Hard Rock Edition came with the rubber weather floor mats for the front and rear seats. I bought the rubber floormat for the cargo area. well worth it. my carpet looks like new 9 years later. also, you should look at the door entry guard. mine had a spot where the paint wore out where you get in and out of the jeep. I had it fixed about a year ago and then put the door sill covers on it. honestly this should have been done at the factory.
Greetings from Craig Alaska!...a lot of locals here depend on jeeps and especially wranglers, so this video really speaks to me. My friend Mike turned me on to this channel...love it.
Matt, I've read several of the comments on this first video I've watched of yours. You're a rocksta, Sir! I haven't got my 4 door wrangler yet, but hope to within this next year! I've subscribed Matt, because I, like these other commenters KNOW we can trust you to give us the correct direction on these cool Jeeps!! Thank you.
So I just got my first wrangler 22 Willy Recon Package and in 2 years will trade up to a 24 Rubicon 392 and I love that every day I learn something new with these cars one thing I didn’t know until I saw your video is I had to cut a piece of the flooring carpet out in order to get to the drain, I saw it imprinted but I figured mine doesn’t have that option 😂 And I might be the only one on this but I love the stock antenna especially on my Sarge Green Recon with the soft top it makes it look like a true Army Jeep I love it.
Hi Matt and Ryan. First I love your videos, your tips and advice have helped me very much. Second and this is just for fun, I ordered my 2-door in earl grey on June 2 and Ryan got his before me...arghh. I did not get mine until after the strike and just after Thanksgiving. I used your tip about checking the fuses to make sure they were all pushed in completely, the count was close to 30 that went just a bit more into place. That was a great tip!! I also got some rock Stopperz from your product try out video, they work great and look good as well. I'm looking into some of the other mods for storage and Bullet point but had not decided yet on what will work best for me. This is my first Jeep and so far I love it, I have not gotten to open the top or go doors off, I'll have to wait for spring. I just wanted to say thanks for your content, it really helped a totally new Jeep guy make some informed choices. Keep up the good work. I did order the floor mats and got some side steps and sill protectors also.
Would love a set of oem jeep mats. Just bought my first jeep ever! I have always wanted one. Gotta start somewhere so I started w a used one but I love it!! Loving all the videos!
1. Another option for the phone mount is 67 Designs. Great product. I do recommend the magnetic mount though. 2. Floor mats 👍👍 3. Antenna: I did the 50 cal bullet design.. it’s works fairly well and I don’t listen to much over the air waves anyway. 4. I have the Warn version of your mount and well as a rope and if going way out, a complete tool bag. 5. The fuses and relays on my JT and my friends were out 1/8 to 3/16 from being fully seated. In fact, my friends went into a limp mode with codes referring to intermittent ECM contact. Pushed the relays down and has been good since.
Nice video! Would like to see if you do any prep before off-roading (like spray underneath so mud falls off easier) or what you check and how you clean underneath after a day out in the muck.
Got a question I bought a 2023 Jeep Beach edition 1 of 500 I guess didn't realize it when my girl and I bought it we just loved the color like yours. But I'm confused is it a Rubicon or regular wrangler ? what's the difference ? I live in Maryland so close to you if you want to check it out . Thanks
I opened up the fuse box on your recommendation and started pushing in. I couldn't believe it but everyone I pushed on 'clicked in'. Even the relay's were seated crooked
Aside from checking the fuse box I concur with your choices! I must admit the rubber mats lose the dark black look early and are grayed out! I much prefer the carpet mats as a option. Keep the informative videos coming and please consider me when you decide to give your carpet mats away!
Thanks for commenting ! The carpet is definitely a clean look also ! Shoot me an email at matt@dirtroadcredmedia.com and I will send you the floor mats!
Hey is anyone making a outlet for adding electric add-ons for the JK? Love the EZ plug in the JL's have. I'd love to find a EZ plug & play for under the hood of my 2017 JK. Maybe mounted somewhere near the Firewall. Oh, and if you have anything I could use on my 2017 Gobi JK laying around in your garage, I'll take it.
Matt I do love the appearance of the Jeep mopar all weather floor matts. Question for you. If I cut the underside of the drain off and install another plug on the top side will the floor matt lay flat? I do not want to utilize the floor drain. To many issues with water getting the carpet damp from both sides underneath and topside both. Thanks Kip
I actually had a charging system problem in 19 JL Wrangler, that turned out to be a broken Fuze in the fuze block that would lose contact an cause the start battery to go dead. Witch was broken from the factory.
I'll have to look into the Bronco antenna. I didn't know they were swappable. I usually just painted the stock ones black. The recovery gear I wouldn't count as I moved mine from Jeep to Jeep. I have the same ARB recovery bag you have from my last Jeep (WJ). Agree about the floormats. I love mine (JKU). I'd also add grab handles.
that fuse box suggestion is fantastic, regardless of the manufacturer. I also want to mention, in regards to the floor liners. Anyone thinking of ordering their jeep, DO NOT spec this item on the build sheet, you will pay A LOT more for small items you can add later like the floor liners. You can actually get them cheaper by a few dollars and you aren't financing them.
@@DIRTROADCRED I didn't even think about build times! Some items, you can't beat price on like the premium (bestop) soft top or things you can't add (easy/cheaply) aftermarket, but some you just have to do the math on and buy after the vehicle.
I will 💯 rock the factory floor mat. I just like the feel of carpet under my feet. If I don’t win this, I still plan on buying another set for when I wear mine out !
Enjoyed the video, thanks for the point on checking the fuse box. I had many lose I bought my 4xe of june 3rd and have 6400 miles on it. Not sure if this is related, but one that that always bugged me was the volt meter showing 12.6 when driving occasionally it would jump to 14.3 then drop steadily to 12.6. So i figured well maybe had something to do with my HV battery and hybrid system. Well after checking my fuse box and finding many loose. ( i wish i had noted which were loose). I noticed driving this morning, Volt meter now showing 14.3 - 14.4 consistently. NOT sure it is related however I do know a loose connection can cause a voltage drop in High current situations. just thought I would share and look forward to seeing more of your content. On a different topic, I wanted also share.I just returned from a 16 hour round trip, went through the mountains of WV etc. pulling a trailer and the power an torque of the 4xe is amazing. Much surprised, as I was concerned with the 4 banger turbo. I had rented one in Colorado a few years back and said I would never own a 4 banger. However when it i married to the electric set up It gets it done and more.
I currently have a failing Jeep Patriot. I’m trying to get a Wrangler but I’m injured enough to barely be able to work but not injured enough for disability. Hopefully soon I’ll have enough for the down payment! Thanks for the tips, I’ll keep them in mind for whenever my dream does come true. :)
@@DIRTROADCRED i certainly hope so, all I want for whatever time I have left is to enjoy life, not be frustrated by it all the time. Anyway, happy thanksgiving man!
Bought my first yj. She is pink, yes it is a old repainted love. Trying to find parts and looking for the exhaust leak. It comes straight up through broken shifter boot. Ideas?
I found your videos recently and I enjoy them. I may reach out to you when I order. I am waiting to see what they come out with for the 20th anniversary rubicon. I agree with the antenna, never liked the factory one I wish they would upgrade. I was wondering what CB you recommend...I tend to go on mostly jeep jamboree's, so I would like to get it wired for clarity and range.
I haven’t run a CB in a little while, I typically use handheld communication which is portable and I can use outside the vehicle ! I’ll have a video soon on comm systems coming out soon!
The really cool thing about the jl is jk bumpers bolt right on. I have purchased a front and rear bumper from Amazon. And total cost was around 300 bucks
Did you lose any radio station reception when swapping the antenna? I will live with the factory one, until an aftermarket one both looks better AND performs better. Form does not trump function for me as far as far as tuning in stations goes. Great vid, will check fuse box.
Another fun and informative video. Thanks for keeping them coming. Nice to watch you with your new Jeep while I wait for my order to be scheduled and built.
Speaking of things to do right away - what is your opinion on rust-proofing? Should we rust-proof our jeeps when we pick them up from the dealership? Really appreciate your feedback, and as always - awesome video. Just ordered the phone mount that you showed.
just got my new jeep. a 2022 jeep wrangler unlimited 4xE Sahara package. first jeep i ever owned, i really like it. enjoyed your video, with the tips you gave. the first thing i said to myself when i purchased the jeep, and got it home. i want to get the rubber mats, then i saw your vid, and you were showing them, cool. any sets of mats left? thanks for video.
I have heard, that using your hitch as a recovery point, especially with a snatch or kenetic rope can be dangerous. Why not use a rated recovery point? Your thoughts?
When using a hitch point with a receiver or other method it can be dangerous, when using approved hitch links you can do it safely, it all comes down to speed and situational awareness
The factory tow hooks are only meant to help you along, the hitch ring is a much better choice if it comes to getting pulled. The stock (and aftermarket) hitch is attached to the rear frame, it’s pretty thick and far more durable then the hooks. Even the aftermarket bumpers that have the hitches built in are superior in strength and usability.
4 out of 5 when I took my delivery a few months ago. I've been thinking about getting a set of carpeted mats for when we go on a longer family trip though.
I just installed the bullet point driver and passenger on my JL cost me a lot because they don't ship to Canada I had to use a Forwarding company address in the US. But it was worth every penny 🙂
@@DIRTROADCRED hooo last time I checked there were no option on amazon.ca. But I just looked again and they have options on there nw! Nice :) thanks :) Also quick question for you, I have the same Rubicon with the xtrem Recon pack and after adding a steel front bumper with a winch (synth line) , a bumper delete at the back I noticed that the rake toward the front was more noticeable. I was looking into the Rancho 2" Sport because I don't want to get into changing everything and I want to keep as close as factory my suspension. What do you think about this? I noticed also the front and rear swaybar links are beefier on the xtrem Recon compared to after marked ones. I love your video man. I just hate that it makes me want to spend even more money into my Jeep haha
I've seen people doing clear vinyl wraps on new cars with the argument of "we put a screen protector on our $1k phones, why not on our $40-$60 cars?". That hit me hard. It makes so much sense. ESPECIALLY for Jeeps. I literally got a scratch down my passenger door the 3rd week owning my first brand new jeep (just driving through a street with some overgrown bushes) 3 years ago. It killed me. Same thing happened in my new Tundra last year, and I paid extra for the BS armor all protective coating. What do you think about these wraps? I fully plan to get one when I order my next Jeep.
Those scratches are off road racing stripes. Jeeps are for fun, not for pretty. I have 2 and have never washed either one. Real men void the warranty. Have fun, not hissy fits.
Hey Matt. Good to see you on the youtubes again! I picked up a 2022 JLUR XR about two months ago thru special order as well. I went with the 3.6L though. Been a great rig so far. Thanks for your tips. I have an idea for a video for you and maybe with your Dad... Comms for the trail. I am learning a lot about radios right now but would appreciate your perspective.
Hey! Thanks for commenting! That’s definitely something we will tackle in the future on our trail series videos, I’ve been through my fair share and think I’m finally at the perfect set up for the amount/style of wheeling I do!
Thanks for watching! Best bet aftermarket is through Tazer Automotive, it’s not terrible to do, just takes some time to disassemble part of your dash and front grille!
Does the phone sit far enough back mounted on that side of the tray? Far enough back that you’re not smacking it all the time moving your hands when turning? Been trying to find a good quality mount for that tray! I like heat so Ill probably melt my phone 😂
Do NOT change the air intake system!!! Period!! Because once you change that you let more crap particles into your engine, and the throttle body adjusts to a lower air intake as it recognizes the engine is getting more air. Sorry Matt, I know this wasn't on your list, but I'd just learned of this.
Love the bulletpoint mounts. I have them on both the Wrangler and Gladiator. I've been a fan of factor 55 and the way I see it is if the recovery gear breaks while recovering then the recovery gear wasn't worth the money. I view recovery gear as the equipment of last resort. If it fails then I'm walking home and leaving a Jeep in the woods.
@@DIRTROADCRED Well I realize that's truly none of my business, I just see guys like you with jeep after jeep and doing all of these crazy mods and I just wonder how in the hell anyone can afford it. Good for you!l though!! Lol
Enjoyed your video… Subscribed… I am an ‘06 TJ owner, but I have a deposit down for the new Ineos Grenadier, which is expected to arrive in North America late in 2023… Should I decide against exercising my option on the Grenadier, I’d been planning on a new JL Rubicon, but, I’ve been hearing a lot of complaints about early corrosion, (while still under factory warranty), especially around the hinges… Obviously your vehicle is far too new, but I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts of this issue…Have you heard of others having this problem?
Thanks for following along! Corrosion and jeep hinged have been a problem for a few generations of jeep vehicles, the issue is they paint the hinges and doors after they assemble them, leaving bare metal on metal underneath, normally if you have them painted underneath they will last a long time!
@@DIRTROADCRED Yeah…That’s what I figured… If the doors are aluminum, (I believe they are), the metal should be anodized and/or primed, prior to final assembly, including mounting of the steel hinges…Obviously, doing it right, would cost more in the short term, but it would help to cement Jeep as being a quality, well made product, built to last!
Two things. On my 2020 JL one of the fittings on the oil cooler in front of the radiator was just about hand tight and was leaking oil since day one. Check those. Second, the auto start stop sensor is mounted in the front right driver side. If the plunger for some crazy reason is not depressed by hood, then the start stop is deactivated. Which means that if you take the sensor out of its position and zip tie it close by, your engine won’t incessantly start and stop. 👍

Does that phone mount bounce? Is the arm secure? As we know, a Jeep JK/JL, etc isn’t a regular vehicle. That’s my question.
Definitely no movement. Very stable when we took it off road as well
I have heard, that using your hitch as a recovery point, especially with a snatch or kenetic rope can be dangerous.
Good call!
Love my bullet point mounts👍
They’re awesome! Had them in my rams and all my Jeeps!
4 out of 5 when I took my delivery a few months ago. I've been thinking about getting a set of carpeted mats for when we go on a longer family trip though.
Let me know if you want them, a few have said they did but no one has reached out to me!
@@DIRTROADCRED I would certainly take them off your hands!
Shoot me an email!
Matt@dirtroadcredmedia.com
@@DIRTROADCRED Email sent. Thanks!
I'd love the jeep floor mats.
They have been spoken for !
I need those mats for my 2012
I just ordered one in the same high velocity color today
Awesome!
I just installed the bullet point driver and passenger on my JL cost me a lot because they don't ship to Canada I had to use a Forwarding company address in the US. But it was worth every penny 🙂
That’s awesome, I love mine and have run them for a few years now!
Great points! Subscribed. JL392 XR on order. Will do these first thing! But I don't own a Bronco for the antenna swap. 😅
Lol you can find them in the description!!! Thanks for subscribing!
Can’t wait for some auxiliary lights installs
Very soon!
Thanks for the info..I'm totally getting me another Jeep
Right on!
How do you need for the floor mats.? I need some for my wrangler
Floor mats are long gone!
@@DIRTROADCRED Thanks
Those floor mats would look great in my TJ ?
Unfortunately they’re spoken for! Keep an eye for future videos as we might have more!
Love the moPar mats
YES!
really like the Bulletpoint mounts, unfortunately they dont ship to canada.... sad
Will Amazon ship them to you?
@@DIRTROADCRED hooo last time I checked there were no option on amazon.ca. But I just looked again and they have options on there nw! Nice :) thanks :)
Also quick question for you, I have the same Rubicon with the xtrem Recon pack and after adding a steel front bumper with a winch (synth line) , a bumper delete at the back I noticed that the rake toward the front was more noticeable.
Bullet point mounts are the best
Right?!
Great tip on the fuses.
Thank you, definitely something to check out!
Thats definitely a good perspective, I do like the clear protection!
Those scratches are off road racing stripes. Jeeps are for fun, not for pretty. I have 2 and have never washed either one. Real men void the warranty. Have fun, not hissy fits.
Any issues having water come in with the plugs on top of the drain holes while water fording?
Nothing yet!
Matts recovery rope is what I carry 👍
That would be more fitting , we have the same name!
I have a bullet point and a 67 design, the 67 is slightly better. The bullet point makes noise.
I prefer the bulletpoint!
Weather tek sux, husky floor mats are best
Good call
Couple other very good ideas is to put a AGM battery in and a oil catch can.
Good call!
Why do you a phone mount when you have CarPlay, you can put your phone in the armrest or glovebox?
Still need some functions that are only on the phone!
The floor mat plug comes off with my shoe when I’m driving switch to quadratec mats
Interesting!
Noob here!!! Thank you!!!
You’re welcome!
Great videos! I regretted not getting the integrated front camera. How easy is it to put it aftermarket? Will it be the same? Can you advise?
Thanks for watching! Best bet aftermarket is through Tazer Automotive, it’s not terrible to do, just takes some time to disassemble part of your dash and front grille!
First thing on every vehicle is first aid kit and a fire extinguisher. After that my Jeep got a winch and recovery kit.
Great first mods!
Does the phone sit far enough back mounted on that side of the tray? Far enough back that you’re not smacking it all the time moving your hands when turning? Been trying to find a good quality mount for that tray! I like heat so Ill probably melt my phone 😂
Yes it sits back far enough lol!
Both great brands!
Great video! I bought a used jk that already had the rubber mats installed. However, I would like the carpet mats much better!!!!
Awesome! If you want them shoot me an email to matt@dirtroadcredmedia.com
Did you give the floor mats away yet?
Haha yes, looong time ago
Did you give the mats away?
Yes I did!
Amazing mods, very simple! 🔥
Thanks abi!
Good Job! 👍
Thanks!
What do you do for money? I would love to mod mine but ..money. lol. Good for him for being financially comfortable.
Little bit of everything to be honest!
@@DIRTROADCRED Well I realize that's truly none of my business, I just see guys like you with jeep after jeep and doing all of these crazy mods and I just wonder how in the hell anyone can afford it. Good for you!l though!! Lol
What is the brand and size of your tires 🛞?
They are 315/70/17 bf Goodrich ko2 all terrain tires
Enjoyed your video… Subscribed…
I am an ‘06 TJ owner, but I have a deposit down for the new Ineos Grenadier, which is expected to arrive in North America late in 2023…
Should I decide against exercising my option on the Grenadier, I’d been planning on a new JL Rubicon, but, I’ve been hearing a lot of complaints about early corrosion, (while still under factory warranty), especially around the hinges… Obviously your vehicle is far too new, but I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts of this issue…Have you heard of others having this problem?
Exactly! It’s just one extra step to make sure this doesn’t happen!
Great feedback I will check mine!
