- On a recent shark fishing trip, I decided to have a go with my cast net in the shallows just for fun. It turns out, all kinds of creatures were out in force!

That was about a 8-10 grade shrimp! Many years ago (at least 40 yrs) I spent one summer buying shrimp right off the boats before daylight at the Seabrook docks and selling them on the roadsides inland. That summer they were really abundant and cheap, and I could double my money. It was a God-send during a very difficult time for me and my family. What was left over from my sales every evening we would eat or freeze. We got very tired of eating shrimp. I am really enjoying your videos from back home. God bless you.
That unknown small fish at 5:59 is a yellow bellied sapsucker. And dems good eatin! 😀

Yo bro, the water in Kingwood has been clear blue with high visibility for the past week or so. You can do some cool sight casting videos for perch and bass right now probably.
I have that castnet lol! There’s nothing better than when you’re basic fishing and you get into something unexpected.

Greetings again from the Arkansas Ozarks. (1) I got gaffed in the thumb by one of those little hard-head catfish one afternoon while working on a shrimp boat as a deck hand on Trinity Bay. He was about 3 inches long, and it was one most painful experiences I've ever had. The aching pain went right up to my shoulder, and lasted for hours. (2) I think that little striped fish with the huge eyes and mouth you netted was a baby Sheep's Head.

You can't use a castnet for food? Wow! Here it's one of the most common ways of getting a feed of prawns (shrimp). The big ones (callled leader prawns) will get up over a foot long, but banana, tiger and king prawns are usually 6 to 9 inches long. Bay, estuary and endevour prawns tend to be on the smaller side but sweeter tasting.
Sand flats are prime hunting grounds for mullet and whiting, particularly on a rising tide. I've had days where I caught more and better fish in a net than on a line lol.
My kids love castnetting.

@@wildlifefishingshow dang. I'm always amazed at the differences that jar with the similarities. Can use a castnet here for a feed but can't use it in freshwater lol.
@@wildlifefishingshow Where are you located? I know in Louisiana we can cast net for shrimp. Only thing you can't keep is game fish.
It might be the size of the net too. Certain nets sizes can be used for bait and others for food

Never seen a shrimp that big in my life. I've heard from guys here in Louisiana they've caught shrimp that big but you know fishermen and stories

I’m the first person to comment in three months. I’ve been working on my cast netting for about 3 days and caught a crab. I use a method where I put the net over my shoulder.

You need to get a magnetic sheath for that knife, it's the second time you dropped it on that beach .

There were millions of shrimp at Surfside last week i got 3.Buckets
I only saw shrimps with that size and that health color in the restaurant that cost me a lot.

Should’ve checked to see if it was one of those Tiger shrimps. No bueno for gulf shrimp.

@@Scale575 yep youtubers only show the success. no telling how many times he threw the net.
If I uploaded a video of every throw it would be too long to hold anyone's attention. I generally just edit the successful throws in. Sometimes people complain about only showing the successful throws but nobody would watch a video with lots of unsuccessful throws anyway, so not sure why they complain 🤷♂️ (not referring to anyone currently on this thread, just to be clear)
To be fair though, I really did catch fish on nearly every throw this day. It was just an epic day.
Are most beaches like this I only cast net at this ship Channel and always get mullet but going to the beach soon and really want to catch bait at the shore

My guess is the striped baby fish was a Sheepshead.
The strange fish probably baby jack or pompano
