Which One Should You Buy? Equinox 900 or Manticore | Metal Detecting Comparison

- It's been months since I got the Minelab Manticore. But I wanted to use it for a couple hundred hours before I did a review or comparison on it. Today I'm going over the Manticore and Equinox 900 and giving my opinion on which one does better at different sites.

Equinox 900 goes just as deep as the Manticore for a lot less money.
Well it is deeper, 35 vs 28 etc...
Great info……like you stated …… by The time you buy a small coil for the Manticore your into $1900 compared to $1100 on The 900 .
Thank you very much for the comparison. I am looking to purchase my first detector and doing some research and came across your video. I'm leaning on the 900. I hope I choose wisely.
I an getting the 900 as well(I think). I have been using a bounty hunter quick silver for 20 years.. can't count how many gold rings I've found on DRY beach sand. They all beep if you get lucky and go over the object.
Fantastic informative information - much appreciated for you taking the time and effort to make this video!
Just save $500 and get the equinox 900 it is an awesome machine !!! Love mine !!!
you mean save 500 and go with the manticore?
Great comparison video....thanks Andrew
I really like your videos! You always come over to my neck of the woods when you go chase nuggets. You do a great job on all your review videos. I enjoy the nugget hunting and ghost town hunting videos for coins and relics. Keep them rolling in sir. New subscriber and follower!
Thanks for the comments and I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
Liked and subbed…you have some great no frills, no spills, no BS vids! I was in the same boat a few days ago on the 900/Manticore decision and with the latest sale which ends May 5th, I went with a new Manticore…$1019 out the door to my door.
I think you're going to really like the Manticore
You just said what I was going to say, just got my Manta and took it to the beach the other night at a - tide and love it with the 2D, saves you a lot of time and just zero in on the solid round marks and keep going,,,,,I will see how it does in the jungle old areas next on mostly bronze coins. Thanks for the report
If I can afford one it will be the equinox 900 with 2 😎coil
🇵🇭 treasure hunting for Japanese treasure 😊
Happy 😊 hunting all
Love bless
Great review. On the fence of whether or not to go with the NOX 900 or the Manticore. This video helps!
Thanks for sharing your opinion very helpful.
Awesome video man!
Thanks for the great review! Utah hunter here too.
Great run down Andrew. Agree with all of it. Of course, I don't have a 900, but do have a lot of experience on the 800, and have been using the Manticore for a few months. I don't know how the 900 compares to the 800 in EMI, but I've been pretty happy with how much better the Manticore seems to handle EMI than the 800. In a couple of parks where I can't really even use SMF on the 800, or any single frequency below 20Khz and even then with sens in the 16-18 range, I've been able to run the Manticore in SMF at 20+ sens and it really seems to make a difference in that those parks seem to have producing a lot more of the deeper coins. My 800 isn't going anywhere though - it's still more useful with the smaller coil in a lot of situations. And who knows when ML is ever going to ship the Manticore coils.
Thanks for your comments Dave. I agree that the Manticore does do a good job of EMI mitigation at parks. I think it's just overall better at picking a quiet channel quickly.
Nice review helps wen your getting back in to it 👍
Most informative thank you
Great info thanks for sharing!!!!!!
very nice comparison.
Thanks Andy for the excellent comparison and for your integrity and no sales pitch approach.
Having thousands of hours on the Equinox 800, it was a natural progression to get a 900. I have never used the Manticore. I don't look at the screen on any of my detectors very much and I don't get to saltwater beach hunt very often. So those are my reasons for getting the 900. So far it has the really great shaft system, hopefully it's really waterproof, faster recovery speed, better target separation and that more expanded target ID range than the 800. I like all of those improvements a lot except for the expanded target ID range which is taking me a lot longer to get used to than I expected. With my love for gold prospecting, the inclusion of the 6" coil and compatibility with the other Equinox and Coiltek coils that I own, for me the 900 was the easy choice.
Thanks, Jeff. glad you liked the review. Also, thanks for the comments about the 900. I wish Minelab would offer a choice for ID range in the next update they do. I prefer the condensed ID of the 800 but im getting used to the 900 the more I use it.
What part of the country are you in? How is the 900 on normal soi (not a beech)
its excellent way better that my old garret detectors.@@19jody72
Appreciate the video, fair n balanced, with excellent input.
Thanks I'm glad you think so.
Great information
Nice job, looking forward to watching more of your videos
Was wondering have you made one with the manticore in iron adjusting the ferrous option
Thanks, glad you liked it. Sorry I haven't made a video about ferrous limits yet.
Hola compañero una pregunta cual es mejor detector equinox 900 o Manticore?
Hello @RelicsRings, what was your opinion about these two devices?
Id buy the 800, big bang for the buck
Good summary.
I think the balance of the Manticore is off a bit is because the shaft is not located at the center of the coil.
I think you're right about that.
Excellent 👍
I like the review, I have the 900, I never have a chance to beach hunt. I wondered if I made a good choice after your video I'm happy I got the 900.
Thanks glad you liked the video
Great on the beach.both the 900 and manticore.manticore goes aittle deeper
Coming from the 800 I bought the manticore and have been wondering if I made the right choice or not. I think I did but those iron nails give me fits with the manticore. I did a test garden and put nails in every hole in different configurations with coins. It really messes with the 2D screen and VDI numbers. I’m still on the fence if the screen helps me or hurts me. One thing I have learned is turning on a target doesn’t help. With nails close to a target you might only have one angle where it sounds good. Thanks for the video
Thanks, I appreciate your comments about your experiences with the Manticore in iron.
I really appreciate this video! I am a novice and I mostly do beach hunting. I am looking to upgrade my current whites prizm II. Was leaning towards the equinox 900. But now maybe the manticore.
What are your thoughts? Thank you.
Get the 900
Adakah dengan koil 8 inchi manticore boleh mengesan nugget yg kecil
900 for me👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The Nox 900 has an additional 4khz frequency over the Manticore.....(if it ever gets used.)
Saludos amigo los dos son muy buenos detectores
Thanks.
Nether I just pulled a Indian head penny from 13 inches using the Legend yeah the number s were a little bouncy but 13 inches is deep target
Thank you!!!
Great video i have both and i still like the 900 alot
Totally agree
I have the 900.. so its probably not worth upgrading to the Manicore in everybody's opinion?
I have a couple of questions. Is the headset waterproof on either or both. They both say they can be used totally submerged. And for one unique use I may have is there a 4 inch coil available?
Neither of the headphones are waterproof but the entire metal detector is. A 4" coil isn't available for either.
I’m wonder if the 900 would be an upgrade to either my Equinox 800 or my XP Deus 2.
IMO if you have the Deus 2 and 800, you don't need the 900.
Easy answer if you get out detecting pretty much everyday the manticore if not the 900 in my eyes the manticore is not worth the money it is it's not that much of leap from 900
Why do you need both a 6 inch coil and an 11 inch?
Use the 6 in high trash areas
@@jamesdukes4401 thanks man. Just got my manticore and didn't know which upgrades were needed. Think this is a necessity?
@@griffglass2040 , I use the 6 when gold prospecting too.
I prefer Nokta
Wanna see live dig test
Look at some of my other videos.
Deus 2 for the win
They’re both great detectors I owned both sold the 900 to a friend if you had to choose one and had no other detectors I’d go with the 900 it’s $500.00 less and comes with a 6” coil I have two detectors a D2 with 9” and manticore
And you can get them cheaper than advertised my 900 was $1050.00 no tax free ship
Yea I'm more inclined to lean towards the 900 for what I do. I don't park hunt much and I'm only at the beach a few hundred hours a year.
@@RelicsRings I hunt year round especially beaches here in Ct and I got four rings in two weeks with the Manticore 3 on the beach last one was gold class ring and two silver halves been on a good toll
where did you get it?
I bought my 900 on mercari for $775 that was only used once on a beach hunt, so it was a win-win to get this machine as opposed to dropping another $700 $800 to get the Manticore. So far I'm really liking the results from the 900! I have found four rings in the past week Beach hunting with the 900 so far.
@@landsharktreasure it’s a great detector I got the manticore now 4 rings in a few months last ones 1/4 oz 24k it’s about paid itself off
The weight and nose heaviness of the manticore are a NO SALE.
You will still buyone 😂
@@randy5897 No dice BRO
The weight, should of been with me back in the 80's :))
$2000 for the 900 and $3000 for the Manticore here in NZ
Move to Nevada, USA . Metal detectors are less expensive plus you can own guns and smoke marijuana legally. Also no income and sales tax ! 🤠
The manticore is just to complicated. The 900 is easier in a it of ways. Not saying i couldn't master the manticore, it just takes to much time.
After going for the manticore i very much regret my bad decision. I should have got the nox 800. It has been around long enough to prove itself a good detector. Manticore in my opinion is smoke n mirrors. Lots of fancy nonsense and little performance.
I got rid of my 800. Manticore is much better than the 800 once you learn how to set it up.
I hope your right. I just dont know what other setting I can change to get more than 6 inches out of it.
@bennoah9780 if your using the most recent update and your ground is mineralized, try lowering the sensitivity tp 19 or 20 and raise the recovery to 6. That made all the difference for me.
@@RelicsRings Thanks kindly. I will try that when it comes back from being checked out.
Agreed. Had the Equinox 800 for 5 years (6 now) and got the Manticore. Took both to same sites, I like the performance of the Equinox 800 better. As you said, screen, bells/whistles and gimmicks. If you like to tinker with settings it or the Deus2 are the ones to get, if you like digging relics the 800/900 are the ones to get. No joke.
Дякую за тест! Привіт з України!
Manticore seems worse that my 5000 in settings
Why the stupid noise. Yall call some kind of music
Deus 2 don't buy anything else!!
Lol easy both.
None...i hate iron
