After hours of side-by side testing, taking screenshots to see visual differences and measuring performance, I did a Steam guide for WRC 10's graphics settings, as there's a few settings that eat a DOZEN fps for no reason at all, probably due to poor programming.
Texture filtering eats tons of frames, and it shouldn't, as it's a near-zero impact setting in all other games, labelled as "anisotropic filtering".
Reflections eat a ton of frames too, but it makes much more sense there.

Hi, I know what you mean WRC 10 has bad settings. I was able to quite fix fps issues by disabling the game's post-processing filter, as that's what makes it consume fps like a locomotive. I am dedicated to applying reshade to all games to give it more immersion. So if you want, try the one I did for WRC10 and see if it improves your experience. ruclips.net/video/gH3NhQDKy_s/видео.html&ab_channel=ULTRAGRAPHICSRESHADE

Nice summary Mike. I would like to add a major pluss(for me) to the WRC games, is that the world around the track is more filled inn. DR2.0 really feels like they put in all detail at 5 meters left and right of the track in most zones and when in replays it looks very weird. WRC while less detailed has a more realistic "horizon" view.

No idea how is it in wrc 10 and its not been demonstrated here, but the car sounds in DR2 is just amazing, i've spend first 100 hours not even realising how COMPLETELY different each separate car sounds in different cameras, i always drive in cockpit view, then i decided to switch to the bonnet view and it was completely different, then i switched to 3rd person camera.. .again.. completely different sounds, you can hear the turbo, the exhaust which you couldn't hear in other views.. and then when you press a button to look back ... the car sound changes completely to new, they've recorded at least 4 different sessions for each car - its insane.

yeah it's because the stages in WRC games are basically all the few iconic sections from a few stages at every location around the world, which allows them to cram all the best sectors into the stages in the game. DR2, on the other hand, has the real-life stages turn for turn. it's a more "authentic" experience, but it also means they might be slightly less exciting.

  • @aaronflamisch5142

Just my two cents as far as driving experience; I think dirt 2.0 does a better job of simulating the feel of spinning tyres ontop of loose surface, digging it away to get to grippier stuff on the bottom, where as WRC feels like youre always skimming along very loose stuff with no way to find actual grip, maybe its all thanks to DR2.0’s better FFB model giving more details for the driving feel and making the gradient between loose and grip feel more predictable. Great video as always Mike.

Having been a longtime fan of the comic Ray and subsequent dirt series, I had played so much of them that I found the difference in worst to be refreshing and equally engrossing. Hey felt as though the courses nwrc had a bit more of an organic and varied feel to them, but this evening after an extended session with wrc10, I played dirt rally and then dirt rally 2.0 and I have been reminded how excellent both of those games are, respectively, with dirt rally 2.0 having such a polished look and feel to the graphics, sound design and presentation. I am really looking forward to building back into dirt rally 2.0 soon! I can't wait until psvr2 and the rally and racing games otherwise that we will have to look forward to, having really enjoyed dirt rally with the first psvr.

Coming from DR1 (and numerous older rally games) I found WRC8 to be "good enough" to be entertaining, but it required a lot of FFB tweaking and some car setup to reach a decent level of handling.
Later I got DR2 and was blown away by how natural "like a real car" the handling and FFB felt out-of-the-box (at least on slippery surfaces). Recently I tried the demo of WRC10, and while it was definitely an improvement over WRC8 it still had a weird feel of the default FFB and wasn't even close to the natural behaviour of the cars in DR2. IMHO, of course. :)

I really enjoy career modes and WRC10 sounds like more of what I wanted from DR2’s MyTeam career

  • @DustySticks
    @DustySticks 2 года назад +9

I'm in the minority, but I just bought WRC10 as it was on sale and I wanted a good career mode. The driving experience in WRC10 is so much more natural feeling to me than when I tried DR2.0. I refunded that title a while ago as I honestly refuse to support an always online single player requirement and I didn't like Codies essentially DLCing all of DR1 into DR2 when it should have just released with the base game.
WRC10 is def not perfect. Some of the pace notes are questionable, the sounds are pretty muted and lack oomph, racing in the rain and night is just down right unpleasant. The wipers don't seem to do much and the lack of lighting adjustment is inexcusable IMO.
I'm going through the anniversary stuff right now and it's been a blast for the most part. If I had to guess neither title is super realistic, but for me WRC10 just feels natural to drive and is fun which is the most important part to me.

    • @sportschool3537
      @sportschool3537 2 года назад +1

Well, right now they're selling all 4 DLC packs together for 20$ and the base game is dirt cheap too... so right now you can buy the whole game plus all DLCs certainly for less than 40$ and if you find it on sale even less... at some point I think it was on sale for 12 or 15$ along with the DLCs which is nuts...
Anyway... DR2.0 is a much more enjoyable game if you don't have a racing wheel... I own WRC 9 and it's too damn twitchy on controller... and I say that while I'm a fantastic controller player... I achieve very good times in DR 2.0 on weekly and monthly challenges (in the top 300-500)
Anyway, if you don't own both and you have to pick one, I would go for DR2.0 cause the driving feeling is 100% better... if you can own both and you have a driving wheel which is a must for WRC then go for both... without a racing wheel WRC feels clunky af, twitchy af, very very very annoying, you will never run good times and you'll get frustrated at how slow you have to go to keep your runs accurate and avoid damage (I like to get the car back in one piece, I hate seeing a banged up mess in the end)...
Also, Tarmac rallying is 100% better on WRC cause everyone knows DR2.0 on Tarmac is a little bit worse than a turd on wheels... but personally I play rally games for gravel stages... Tarmac means nothing to me when I want to rally... if I want tarmac I go play F1 or Moto GP...

Otherwise tyre-wear and part wear and tear is more unforgiving in wrc10. I've have both but i go with wrc10 because of better stages, more fun imo and the career mode. You also don't mention that DR2 is really empty when you first buy the game. You have to spend money on a lot of dlc's to get more stages and cars. WRC10 is more complete from the start allthough it has two dlc's. WRC10 will also get free updates later this year with new cars and stages.

Plus, the notes don't seem to consider the momentum the car has after the previous turn - so the note would be okay if you enter the turn from a straight, but send you flying if you just left a bend. There's a "nice" place in Poland, making you kiss the trees just a few meters away from the finish line. :D
And of course you're right: You need to make yourself at home with the track. Pace notes usually work fine with low speeds, but tend to offer you botanical experiences when the pedal meets the metal. ;)

Some of the rallies like Monte Carlo, Mexico, Argentina, Japan were incredible, I didn`t ever use my wheel setup, but I would just have fun on a controller. Those stages are technical, narrow and you have to pay attention.
At the same time some stages like Sweden and Finland look like they are taken out of some mobile arcade - they are way too wide and are nowhere near accurate in that respect. Its nearly impossible to make mistakes on any of those stages - heck, you dont even have to listen to co-driver to make it to the end.
Dirt Rally 2 is a lot more consistent there and Finnish stages are some of the best, same with Sweden.

Dirt Rally 2.0 on PS4 Pro: $8 cnd.
    WRC 10 on PS4 Pro: $80 cnd.
    Guess who wins?
Really enjoying Dirt Rally 2.0 right now, just started it.

I played DiRT Rally 2.0 for about a month now, and love it. Although I wish the damage model was more realistic.
I bought WRC 10 yesterday because I saw it on for half price. What a waste of $40. Terrible graphics and no steering linearity in the options!!! The cars are so twitchy they are undrivable on controller. Literally can’t do it no matter how much I play with the other settings. A game ruined simply because of no steering linearity option / slider like in DiRT Rally 2.0. What the hell were they thinking!??

Both fun, but there are way too many things that irritate me in WRC. Rally 2.0 ftw personally

Yh that's the main problem, wrc games lack polish, plus sound of engines exhaust

WRC 10 has no VR support..... Once you've played rally in VR nothing comes close. Dirt 2.0 for the win!

      This.
I can't understand why they would release a racing game without VR in 2021

The thing is, People who got the equipment can't play racing games without VR any more. It feels like when we made the step from 2D to 3D games in the 90s.
And the number of VR users is only growing as it is becoming more affordable

I've been playing at lot of WRC 10 lately and I love it. However, the graphics are still AWFUL and I have a stupidly high-end machine. Things pop in and out and just don't look great.

7:50 a 4k tv is a 4k monitor. for gaming anyway. i mean. just plug it in. done. i use my 4k tv as a monitor.

@@SimRacing604 yeah, true. i am happy with 60fps for pancake gaming though. also the pixels are not as sharp on a tv as a monitor as tvs are designed for moving images, not desktop stuff. and you need to make sure the tv has a game mode/ pc mode to lower the latency, and turn off all the tv effects like 'true motion' etc. my tv is 11ms and my old monitor is 2ms. but i dont personally notice the difference.
anyway, all i was saying is if you have a 4k tv but not a 4k monitor, you dont need a ps5 to play 4k, you can just plug your pc in. same diff.
except not in this case of course, as going by your review the pc version has performance issues. :)
