@@ross-carlson I feel like the development team of racing games in general are missing the memo here. You need to have good physics, and then wrap it up with good graphics. It shouldn't just be a graphic showcase. But I can see why they are taking this approach. After all, good graphics gets you good chunk of pre-orders because that's what customers are able to see from the trailers anyway.

This is something that is hitting all niche genres like flight sims or realistic strategy games. It's basically just an accountancy thing where those generic ubisoft open world style games are a set level of guaranteed income so there's no reason to develop anything else.

Tbh I feel we've reached a disconnect between what is fun to play with controller and what is realistic. The two are desperately incompatible and the sim rig community shows us that once you start investing in this hobby seriously it opens up, otherwise you've hit a glass ceiling with the controller with regards to feel and clearly, imagination too. I think as a result the direction in the genre is muddles, no one knows what they want from the genre and well no one is putting out what I think is most needed.

      @hamleyn Год назад +22

You only have to look at the F1 games of recent years to know that developers are more interested in cold hard cash than providing a standout game for their fans. F1 22 was deplorable, particularly for controller players and had a lot of bugs in it that had been fixed in later patches of F1 2021 but inextricably showed up again in F1 22.
And mods are great for those who play on PC but us console plebs shouldn't have to wallow in the mud. Why can't anyone just make a really good racing game that works well on both controller and Sim rig that doesn't require any modding out of the box? Surely that's not too much to ask!

After playing WRC 10 and Generations, I have to say I am kinda nervous for the next installment of TDU. All of the things Jimmy calls out here I agree with. I get that TDU isn't a sim game, but the principal stands that if the developer doesn't produce solid games and hasn't for the past few versions of WRC. I went crazy on one corner, tried 20 times and it feels like once you pull the hand break the front wheels stop running and the car became rear wheels only, with a huge push from a side.

Thank you Jamble for making the video, been watching your streams as well and it is just so disappointing how much stuff is broken and/or missing from the game. I have WRC9, DR2 and RBR so this release won't be ending up in my library. I hardly play WRC9 as is because of some of the quirks, biggest one being that lighting thing that is seemingly fixed now but replaced with other issues.
I am especially glad you brought up the the setups being wack. I don't have much time to play games so when I get the time to play i want to spend that time driving and having fun, not messing with a setup that I know nothing about and don't have time to learn. I am totally fine with a default setup being 80% of ideal, I can work with that but to give a crippling setup as default sucks. Just because I enjoy sim racing doesn't mean I have hours to dial in setups just to be able to enjoy the driving and feel like I am driving a car.
It is all such a bummer because I have gotten so tired of doing the same stages over and over in DR2 and RBR suffers from having too much to where I don't know what to play. The time I spent on WRC9 was a lot of fun, the stages were more interesting than DR2, the driving was fun, having modern WRC cars was amazing that I really wished this release and WRC10 for that matter were just flat out better and could be my de-facto rally game. They are just too incomplete or weirdly broken for that to be true though.

I spent 2 hours from my life to setup this game to make work without stuttering (it is only work at 60 or 120 fps) and to feel the wheel somewhat realistic, then i got into Carlos's Celica to drive in the snow - which I like most in rally games - after which I was devastated by the recognition that I had wasted 2 hours of my life... Yes, the throttle works annoying not just when you want to accelerate, but when you release the throttle the car brakes like you drive on tarmac. The wheels also making a sliding sound, it's ridiculous. The other thing what made me instantly ALT+F4 the game is when you drift in a fast corner and expect that the car will come out of the corner with full throttle thanks to the 4WD turbo, you will probably end up in the ditch. Instead, you have to release the gas and the drift is reduced... It is the worst thing you can do in the real car. I hate games that cause false fixation on that level, because likely that's how we will act on in an IRL emergency.

I wouldn't be surprised if Codemasters (by way of their owner EA) kept it to a not immersive season mode and battle passed the fuck out of customizations. I really really really do hope that they take a note from the WRC games and improve their track designs though. But again... if we end up with some dumb customize your apartment and the barest of car editor bones i wouldn't be shocked. They couldn't even be bothered to add in customizable car models in the F1 game.... just generic premade liveries.

It's a shame that we're at a point where older games are outshining their sequel counterparts through the simple fact of being a finished product. I hope we don't have to deal with this too much longer, but for now RBR, DR2 and the PS2 WRC games are scratching the itch for me. Hopefully Kyloton realise this is the bang they are going out on and fix some of the bigger problems you listed.

@@marv2507 Yeah that is probably how they are thinking, but I'm not sure they realise that many people will remember them for the last iteration.
Take Danger Close Games for example, they were tasked with making a couple of the command and conquer games, as well as many of the Medal of Honor games. When they were tasked with the 2010 reboot of Medal of Honor, it was seen as a positive attempt at moving the franchise forward. When they made MOH Warfighter in 2012 however, it got pummeled by all of its critics for it's broken and buggy nature, as well as how boring and unoriginal the game was. Within a year of the game coming out, only a day 1 patch had been released, the studio had been dissolved (shut down in fancy terms), and Medal of Honor had been "taken out of rotation".
While I don't believe Kyloton has made anywhere near as bad a game as Danger Close did, the reviews and videos coming out about Generations that take a stance like Jimmer's are leaning to suggest they did, If they decide they don't want to fix these issues, that is their choice, but it may well be their ending legacy.

It's almost like they didn't do any testing, especially when it comes to the steering wheels. Compared to Dirt or Dirt Rally I never have liked the feeling of the car in any WRC game. I seem to be constantly chasing the wheel setups and they seem to change everytime I restart the game. I really agree with you about floating on tarmac. It seems to be one extreme to the other. It was the closest I had ever gotten to travel sickness. I switched over to Dirt 2.0 and it was like I'd just had corrective eye laser surgery. Additionally, WRC 10 felt poor with my wheel and sounded asthmatic. Gotta say though, Kylotonn did a great job on stage design, in fairness.
I was kinda tempted by Generations, if it were to appear on sale for €20, as I now have a PS5, but I've now decided there's no point throwing good money after bad. Fingers crossed Codies/EA work their magic when they pick up the WRC license.

I have a T300 wheel and G27 pedals and from WRC8 to Generations none of them have worked. Previously, it was always that using an input on one device would stop the other one registering, leaving you accelerating into a tree or off a cliff.
That seems to be gone now. Instead, this game's special thing is that it doesn't recognise my wheel's axis at all, even in the control menu. No idea why, every other game is fine with it.
It is sad because the stages on this look amazing. DR2.0 is a bit weak when it comes to stages, and the tarmac physics also. In the end I've done what I suspect we all do eventually - crawled back to RBR and begged for forgiveness that I ever tried to leave it for a younger, slimmer, less demanding game.

I'm just pointing out this hypocrisy, I know I'm being a bit to aggro about it, but just annoyed about this Codemasters/EA riding, when they have only baited the community with the first DR, and then released a worse and easier version in terms of physics and driving, just to appeal to broader crowd and using the goodwill acquired by DR to do this (which was also very predictable that they would do it, I even remember thinking exactly this playing DR). DR2 in general is not even a good game overall, many issues with it, Codemasters deserve very little praise.

I've been really enjoying WRC Generations, but its also the first WRC game I've played, and the first rally game I've played in a long time. But the longer you play the more you notice the oddities. I just finished the power stage in Portugal which is a head to head race. The opponent car finished ahead of me by a good few seconds, and I had a 5 second time penalty for going out of the track limits, but I apparently won the race by 1 second. Unless the opponent had a penalty (maybe possible but I don't think there's a way to check) then that just can't be true. Maybe the times are skewed because I'm only on 120% difficulty. The other notable moment would be in Sweden when another car was pulled over on the side and a wheel in the middle of the course instantly booted the car into a roll.
