    • @Hannodb1961
      @Hannodb1961 4 года назад +83

      @@felipedaiber2991 That is ideological tripe. The workers too have the option to start their own business, to take out a loan on their house and run at a loss for two years without knowing if things will ever improve, working very long hours just to break even untill they finally have enough income to hire someone and spread the load. But no. It is easier to just apply for a 9-5 job from someone who has already gone through the trouble. Entrepreneurs are a very special type of person, who are willing to risk everything in order to create a viable business. They are not the evil oppressor that the moronic Marxist ideology make them out to be. They are the reason workers have a job to begin with, and they worked incredibly hard to create those job oppertunities. I respect them for that, because I certainly don't want work like that, and I'm thankful for them providing me with an easier life. They do not hire me because its a charity, they hire me because they expect me to add value to the business they created. And as such, they are certainly entitled to the spoils when their efforts pay off.
      Life only seems unfair when you look at it from the perspective of one person, in your case - the worker. But once you get the full picture, it is hardly ever that easy to judge. Does corruption occur in capitalism? Ofcause it does. But Communism, that does not reward anyone for going the extra mile, and actually rewards incompetance and inefficiency is much much worse. This is why the communists had to build walls to keep their people in. That is the only way to keep the people who are incredibly driven, hard working and highly skilled in your society. You need these people to keep your economy going, but you're not willng to reward them for the efforts. Many of those people preferred death by a gun shot of a border guard, than to live in such an upside down society.

      This video is confusing. He presents that it is because of the agents demanding for top billing "so that you can pay him more." Which isn't true, you don't pay your agent more if he gets you top billing on a movie poster. He also says it is because studios' marketing departments can get more butts into seats with certain poster design. Namely the star front and center. What it appears is his argument is that the real estate of a poster is controlled by two entities -- the artistic design is controlled by the studio marketing arm, but the credits is controlled by the studio business affairs arm.

    In academics, they have something really similar with the order of the names of the authors. First one is the researcher who actually did the research, the last one is his supervising professor, and then in the middle the less important names, with the one before last being least important.
    No joke, I've heard of a paper that was submitted to a journal, where the reviewer of the paper basically blackmailed the authors into adding him as a co-author after he made review suggestions, "or else".... so they added him second to last to give him the least amount of credit possible. And if you're wondering "wait, what the reviewer did can't be ethical in any way", you're absolutely correct

      Like yes, artistically that'd be great, but it wouldn't work. Any poster nowadays wants to show off its star power as much as possible. Best way for that face and name recognition to happen is to slap a real-life face profile on there. I personally doubt that an artistic rendition of an actor's face, even if better looking from an aesthetic POV, would garner the same amount of interest from a casual viewer.

I mean the top name is Ansel Elgort and, while he plays the main character in the film, you can't even begin to suggest that he has a higher billing than Kevin Fucking Spacey. Is there any known reason for this? Is it just possibly that Edgar Wright gives absolutely no shits about what you or anyone else thinks and told the designers to put Ansel at the top? If so, I didn't know it was possible, but I think I love him even more than I did.

This is the reason, why you see the too bills on the left or in the middle alone. It's also the reason why nearly every company puts their logo on the right down corner when advertising, because it is the last thing you look at normally.

      A general moviegoer might be more interested in seeing a film where George Clooney is a starring role than a minor one. Duos are easy, just flip the pic. When the "top" billing is in the middle of a larger cast lineup or layout, put his/her name in the middle with larger type and the lower billings flanking left and right in smaller type. The eyes are drawn more to the large type first before registering the smaller type. The problem is that designers insist on using a "clean" uniform size.

      Maybe Lex Luthor could capture Superman's favourite hockey player and try to use a mechsuit and kryptonite to beat Superman?
      Could we have Captain America beating up Soviets because they're Soviets? Oh, and they also have a plan for world domination, so it's totally not just because Cap's a capitalist and hates the commies...

    I think screen-time or the importance of the character would be better. If I'm seeing nice young rookie actor for an hour and a half and he meets Clooney on the streets for five minutes and Samuel L. Jackson for one, put the rookie's name first, then Clooney then L. Jackson. If the famous actors are famous, I don't feel they need the extra push anymore, I know people who would gladly sit through this entire hypothetical movie just to get those 5-minutes-of-Clooney anyway.

      I can see it being a recognition thing - if you're an actor and your name goes first, then more people recognize you, and hence more work. And it creates more attention to the film from a marketing perspective, if people see a famous actor and go to the movie for them.
      Now, to be fair, there IS likely quite a fair bit of ego-throwing and insane bickering, but this is just considering some reasons why this exists.

    This is actually a really big issue for me. I have prosopagnosia, or face blindness (like, every single family member has a story of me treating them like a stranger when I wasn't expecting to see them--including my mum--and I have scared myself walking past mirrors I didn't know were there and not recognizing myself, thinking there was a break in). I am pretty good with names, so when I know there's an actor I like it's not a big deal if I see the name. But if I don't have a strong appreciation or reason to remember them and can't place other roles they've been in, I don't know who the fuck is who on the poster.
    And here's the kicker. It took seeing an actress's name under some random male for me to realize this was happening at all... So like, half the people I assosciated with roles played were not actually that actor, if that makes sense. Does it sound confusing? Because it feels confusing. It'd be like growing thinking you like apple juice because your mom always made some and put it in an Apple Juice container, only to learn fifteen years later that she was just unsanctimonious about labels, and you've really been loving lemonade all along.
    Anyway. I really wish they'd knock this shit off. Who cares which star got paid the most, just put the names in the right order. :/

    Save that top billing nonsense for the end credits in the movie if it's that serious. Let's go back to artistic posters with no words but the name of the film. Same with trailers.
