    As always with music technology, there are many other ways of achieving this same thing. But this is a great, simple system that allows me to quickly produce videos of (in my opinion) decent quality for my channel.

    Some other things I get asked about a lot which I should have said in this vid...
    Yes, the "iRig Recorder" app on iPhone allows you to record video and audio simultaneously.
    Yes, iRig is compatible with Android as well as desktop (but I've never used it with them).
    No, the iRig doesn't come with the audio cables you need to connect your drums to it.
    No, once you've recorded your cover with the backing track using the method I describe here, you can't then easily separate the drums and the music.

    iRig is great! I've got the basic barrel type one and use it with my android phone with no additional app. No fuss, no bother. As Mike has said, get your kit volumes at the right level to start with and have fun!

    IRig is great! My little one uses the basic one. iPod or iPhone connected to the drum module to play music. IRig connected to iPad and drum module. It took me a bit to get my head around it and I worked in radio production and studios 😂 It was the drum kit that was throwing me 😆

    I'm using an iRig 2 without the app on my android. It's super simple but effective, you just need to get the right cables which could be three or four or even more depending on where you're sourcing the music from.

    Hi Mike! Excellent topic to cover. Any chance you can do a simple setup with an acoustic kit? 😊

      Thanks Mike! Was looking for more like what minimal affordable equipment I would get to make it as simple as an electric kit. I guess it’s not as simple. I got rid of my initial electric kit as I thought the acoustics kit would be better, but I didn’t consider I would ever have the need to record. Your electric kit recording set up is fantastic!

    On the topic of vids that are not purely related to drumming, could you share some thoughts about preparing for a gig, other activities (like sports, stretching etc.) that help with drumming or should be avoided. Like doing a marathon right before a gig. And as always, love your vids! :)

It is eating me up as to why, I have replaced the interface, the guitar lead I was using and even the connection I use to connect to my android phone. Any ideas?

    Pleaseee how on earth do you record when you’re using a VST like Steven Slate Drums 5.5? 😩

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  8 месяцев назад

      Plug your kit into into your computer via USB (or whatever input your computer has). Open your DAW (Logic etc), pull up Steven Slate Drums (assuming you've installed it), record the audio in that whilst filming yourself. Sync audio and video afterwards in iMovie/Final Cut etc. Hope that helps and thanks for watching. Nice hooping btw 👏🏻

      @@TheHoopLaedy Is there not a template for the electronic kit you're using in SSD? If not you'll have to map each kit piece manually. The process is usually something like pressing "learn" for each sound then hitting the kit piece on your kit you want to produce that sound. Good luck 🤜🏻

    A timely post, and very helpful for an e-kit. However, I play an acoustic kit, and are wanting to start recording, just for personal use, for interest, and to track my progress (rather than keep using my phone recorder). I have zero knowledge or experience on this subject, and have been tossing up whether to use the 'recorder man' method, which involves just left and right overheads, and a kick mic. Of course, the other option, is close mics, and overheads. As a professional, have you any advice? Apologies for the long rant. Cheers

      Not used that module but think it just has a single stereo headphone/output socket. Should still work, just make sure you use a stereo cable otherwise you'll only hear one side of your kit! Or record to your computer using the USB output. Like I say, have not used that so can't personally guarantee it'll work as expected! Thanks for watching.

    I am using the exact same iRig pro duo I/O on my Alesis crimson 2 SE. I used the iRig recorder app (the free version)for an hour or so, then I a message came up on the screen saying something like “audio connection changed”. This has now stopped me from recording drums as it pops up every time. Have you had this issue, if so what was the solution? Thanks

    After recording, I exported the track and when trying to to listen/watch from outside the app the audio is slowed by a lot. Any advice to fix this?

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  4 месяца назад

      Is the audio truly slowed or just slightly out of sync? I know some users, depending on device used to record etc, have to slightly adjust the position of the audio to achieve a good sync with the video in post. Quickly done in iMovie or similar. If the audio is actually slowed down in some way, still fixable I think but a bit more involved. Thanks for watching.

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Jo, you could use the basic iRig as far as I'm aware - but you then of course would only have one channel to record into. So you could record mono drum kit and backing track if you use the method described here. But not kit and microphone together, and not your drum kit in stereo. Cheers!

    How do you listen to both the drums from the sound module and the backing track playing while recording?

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  6 месяцев назад

      The backing track is running into the drum sound module via the "MIX IN" socket. So I'm just monitoring directly from the drum sound module, therefore hearing the drums and backing track at the same time. The iRig is capturing the whole thing. Very simple system! Thanks for watching.
