Man Stevie! You are the same old Stevie as always. The only difference between now and then is that you are now a more seasoned Stevie T with more accomplishments and hardships under tour belt. Keep on being you Man! We wouldn't want you any other way.

Omg so sry I'm a new subber, so now I'm binge watching all ur videos. I play guitar (going on two years) and I only mostly play green day, acdc, and linkin park. So this is badass that I can get inspired to play different bands and play around with sounds. Thanks, dude!!!👋🏻🥺🤩🤘🏻
I like this kid. he knows what he's doing. goofy as he seems, he makes complete sense. he's trying to help people. I've been playing over 50 yrs. worked with Dokken, Kiss and played/toured with Ronnie Dio, so I can say he makes quite a bit of sense, and he can play too! I like this kid!
yeah, George Lynch I met back in the mid 70's and I saw him playing in someone's front room (party) and he was tapping. I asked him what he was doing (I was teaching at that time) and he said "tapping". im a teacher and couldn't figure out what he was doing lol! 3 years later I heard "Eruption" on the radio and I thought it was George but it was Van Halen. I think George was tapping before Eddie was. I worked with Paul Stanley (tech) shortly after their makeup came off. got a gig with Oingo Boingo (player on tour) and later a short gig with Dio. the groupies in Brazil were incredible. I guess I were in some of the right places at the right times.
+Mason Martin The kid has skill, proper guitarists appreciate this, all those days spending 5 hours minimum after school with the food mum cooked for you still on the bed at 9pm haha!
I've subscribed to your channel because of this video. "don't get discouraged when you are watching wicked guitarist on youtube". Why is he the first guy i have ever seen on youtube to say this, when it is so true! I have recently made a friend in my music class who had been playing for 11 years. That's almost since he was born and yet he still feels very discouraged by youtube, even though he is amazing. I told him how good he was and that is how our friendship started. So next time you see someone struggling or trying hard, give him (or her) a compliment, you'll be surprised how much it hits you back :)

Holy shit, wtf RUclips, how is this recommended to me in 2018 ... Steve has grown a lot since this video, and yet his sense of humour is basically the same xD. This is a gold gem, Never change SteveTerreberry you are inredible!
You are seriously a great help. I've been taking classical guitar lessons for the past couple semesters to really kind of understand some basics, but it's hard to find good/practical references for rock/metal guitar basics.
Stevie T, I know this is an older video, but there are a LOT of very important playing tips here. Anyone starting out on guitar would do well to take these to heart. Good stuff, tried and PROVEN, to make one a better player!
I've been playing guitar for 15+ years and these videos are very informative. I keep an open mind and learn from other people as much as possible. Nobody knows EVERYTHING. Ya dig'
This is your perfect personality right here !!!!!! And like I have already said I believe you are a very talented instructor I actually learned how to play drums by playing along with AC DC. Before I ever had a metronome I developed a hell of a tapping foot. Seriously though perfect on camera on this vid.
One thing that deserves a mention for mid level guitarists is that you SHOULD play other peoples songs. This may not apply to you but for me when i got to a repetitively good level of guitar all i didn't want to play other peoples stuff i just wanted to pull things out of my ass and all i did for a long time was fiddle with scales and stuff. While that's fine you don't really get better doing that. It helped me with improvisation and song feel but as far as speed and actually mechanics it doesn't help much. Learning more and more difficult songs will make you better at at that. I don't know how many people this applies too but just something i thought i would throw out (but seriously guys stay away from the lil wayne stuff, he is just to much of a god for us mortals).
All hail lil Wayne our lord and saviour, I've been playing guitar about 3 years, I'm in a band and stuff, and I've never ever really built up speed. Subconscious ly I started learning harder songs like you said, and while I can't shred like lol Wayne yet, I'm much faster now.
Wow broo.. i am literally in the situation as you mentioned .. and i am trying to improvise on scales and make my own music... now i will try some difficult songs .. any song recommendetion? Ive been playing for roughly 2 years
Christmas was 7 years of me playing, and all this time I haven't used a metronome. You know when someone tells you something for your own good and you go "Pfft whatever you say, I'll do fine without it?" That's how I got when people told me to use one. It's weird though when you broke down the benefits of them, I think that it may help. No one can stop improving right? Thanks man.
He is right guys. Be patient, learn slow 1st. Make sure everything in in sync. ur right n left hand must be totally in sync. if not, u will lose definition and attack in the fast playing. i did wrong before, i lower my action way down and pick too lightly, BUT i do sync my hands. then i need to learn to pick harder while being fluent n in sync. important to play fast aggressive metal. then u pick hard enough, u can play @ medium gain and let helps u to hv crunchy huge guitar sound with a lot of attack n definition. u will realize u dont need THAT much gain to play metal.
when I was learning the main riff to cowboys from hell I put it down to like 80 bpm and played it until I got it perfectly and just moved up five then played it until perfect. once and repeat until full speed and it took me like 30 minutes to learn that riff. got that whole song down now except the solo which I am working on now.

***** I think it was way back in the day, he replied to a comment or something. Also, you can see that he bites his nails, but people souldn't point it out to make him feel bad...
I think he was trying to make this video as a joke. Since most, if not all shredding tutorial tells you to start from slow, use metronomes, practice with scale going up and down, etc. ...Or maybe not.
I like how you used humor to give informative information. using your whole arm can be beneficial though once you start to pick faster for longer periods of time.
dylansfg On the other hand, players like John Petrucci and Rusty Cooley do use quite a bit of the arm when they reach insane speed picking. Mick Thompson picks entirely from the elbow so it shows that even though it is more beneficial to use the wrist, it´s ok to use a little bit of arm when it gets really fast :)

On the other hand, players like John Petrucci and Rusty Cooley do use quite a bit of the arm when they reach insane speed picking. Mick Thompson picks entirely from the elbow so it shows that even though it is more beneficial to use the wrist, it´s ok to use a little bit of arm when it gets really fast :)
