  • Today we're going to be sharing my honest opinions about 3 popular lawn care software platforms out there to help you guys grow your business in 2020. There's tons of options when it comes to ways to manage your back end business, so without further delay, I wanted to make an updated 2020 video on this topic!
Most of you guys have seen or heard about the 4 biggest players in lawn and landscaping when it comes to software options, that being Jobber, Yardbook, and LMN, and Service Autopilot.
Now to be 100% transparent, we're partnered up with Yardbook as they're what powers my actual business, but the other guys pack a punch as well. There's no one pulling strings behind the scenes with me making this video today. I wanted to weigh in honestly how I feel about the 3 different CRM's and what they mean for you as you grow your lawn care business.
You guys have heard me share my thoughts on these 3 different softwares, so I'd love to hear your guys thoughts as well. What do you guys use to manage and grow your lawn care business?
Do you guys use any of these 3 software programs, or do you guys use something entirely different? Whether you're running $5,000 a month in sales or a half a million, I think Yardbook is still your overall best bet. Where you go and graduate from there is entirely up to you, but the bottom line is always this: I wish you nothing but the best on growing your business and crushing it this upcoming season!

My take on the processing fee - add it into your normal pricing and don't itemize it as a separate cost. Clients will pay $48 for a yard when it's quoted as $48, but they'll be upset and complain if they pay $48 for a "$45 yard" with a $3 convenience fee attached.

To me, with the addition of QB Time, I'm able to do everything I need, as well as not have to pay for 2 different softwares (one for taxes and one for CRM). I do have an accounting background thought so that might also be why I'm drawn to it more than others

I think that if you're going to require all clients to have a credit card on file and then payment comes off those cards, you should not add a "$3 convenience fee." The credit card on file trade-offs for bypassing a net 15 is:
    1. you receive ALL your money immediately without having paper invoicing and mailing costs plus time in this process (paper, ink, envelopes, postage, etc.)
    2. you eliminate having to hunt down pat due accounts (time spent, time is money)
    3. you eliminate putting together bank deposits and bank runs for deposits (time spent, time is money)
    4. occasionally dealing with that bad client who you must put into collections and only receiving 50 cents on the dollar once it is collected if ever.
If you calculated all the time you spent invoice prior to the credit card on file system you have in place now, I would guess you're coming out more than $5000 ahead. Just bump all services rates accordingly to cover this cost, that is what we are doing moving forward with ALL new clients. If a client questions the rate(s), I use your's, Keith's (Landscape Employee Trap), and Johnathan's (Florida Turf Pros) overall business moto summed up as...Higher Quality = Higher Rates, and we tell clients something along the lines of "What sets us apart from other companies is LawnScapes of Billings always strive for our services to bring value and peace of mind to you and your property...that is why our rates might seem higher." I'm in Billings MT and I watch your videos. You have great insight, but I think this fee is a misstep. Love your channel, it has helped to bring us to where we are today!

Also I eat the processing fees and just adjust my price accordingly over time, And I have about 50% of my customers cards on file to charge as I go. The thing that I don't like about that is when you send them and invoice with an option to tip I get average $1000 per season in tips. When you charge them yourself you can't add that tip. So I like to send them invoice email and let them pay it and if within a week they don't I just charge their card

We are like millions of other businesses, and use Quickbooks Pro (non-cloud) based software. Pay only once, data is not transmitted to Intuit or anyone else, no ads, no hacking, local bulletproof reliability, and no 100% reliance on internet connectivity. Reports/data is one button clicking with Quicken, and TurboTax. Even in San Jose, CA, I've had the internet drop down for 1-2 days before. An on-line only is a non-starter for our company.

I use Jobber and am ok with them but for the price I'm paying, I still have to manually "complete each weekly job for each customer " in order to create invoice and hate how time consuming it is.😬

I been using pay on line with stripe but I do not like that they hold 50% percent of your payments for 28 days. They have also holds they first 50% for a week before you see any money. They or Yardbook state you receive your payments in 2 days. That is not right. I do pass on a $3.00 convenient fee to the customer for the use of the one line payment.

Dude, I have a question for you. O sold most of my equipment nearly 5 years ago. I took a leap of faith into a different career which , turns out, it is ending up to be kind if a moratorium for me, from my business.
That said, I'm keeping my full-time job & starting my business this season. As is, I have zero clients but that will change once I market. You think I need yardbooks right away? I was thinking of just taking cash the first season in order to build cash flow for the company. Either way, whatever I make in the business is going right in a business ( savings box) or account.
When I got out of the business I had 140 weekly account's. I started thinning the "slow pay" & nitpicker clients out. At the time I used quickbooks so I implemented a prepay service plan, because I got tired of invoicing monthly & getting beat out of money. Anyways, sorry if it seems like I'm all over the place lol, I'm just excited about starting up again

If the processing fees are tax deductible isn't that more in your favor to cover to reduce your overall tax liability? Versus passing the fee over the client and now losing that deduction?
