I agree, there's something in George's voice that almost sounds like he's crying. Whatever he's feeling, the pain the rawness of those lyrics really comes out in his vocals and goes to a place that you can't explain.
george's voice is something but elton's emotion in the 1986 sydney entertainment centre version was another league for me. this one is really cool. the problem with george's version is the instrumental. the vocal part of george was amazing but the instrumental was really bland comparing to elton's standalone piano performance or even this orchestra.

When I bought the CD to rooms by Elton and Bernie and heard George sing Tonight on that CD it brought me to tears. There's something that George has in his voice, a powerful but yet velvety sound comes out. Pitch perfect in tune with a passion I don't hear in anyone else's voice. We all have our own personal taste and preference. Elton sings it beautifully because it is his song but just take a listen at George's version and his interpretation of it. Simply gorgeous.
