This is a neat little trick. As a machine shop Owner I have a Sioux brand pro system. And you will be surprised how many " Fresh Valve Jobs".... won't pull 20 ".of vacuum. But for those in a pinch. ( like we are when our cool shit don't work).... put Valve in ,hook up springs. Pour gas in the port and watch the Valve and look for weeping... (GAS ONLY water and others will seal because it's thicker ).. if you see a stream you got troubles. But it if barley weeps out. A.light lapping will fix it. This technique works well when you go to buy a set ( That they say is good).. A coke bottle of gas tells you what your next move is . People say I shouldn't tell these things. But I got all I can do and then some. I BLESS OTHERS AS THE LORD HAS BLESSED ME.. Go and be blessed with your projects my friends. 👍 😉
The solvent or gas trick is very old and very proven. If you have a parts washer that contains the fluid when poured back into the washer. Many machinists use thick Sharpies instead of (thicker, chips often) blue Dykem. Sharpies are good for layout dye too.
Expandable guide? Very COoL. Who knew? :O) I already love that you are "tooling up" for some serious hands-on garage work. With the (serious) lack of machine shops these days this is looking to be the way to go in some situations. Also the concept of vacuum testing eluded me all those many shade-tree years. Better late than never. Thank you for the "tip" (ironically, something a mohel told me years ago but I digress). You RoCk.
thank you! the expandable pilot is a great tool if your doing garage valve jobs! This diy valve job solution is not the best but it working fine for me thus far! Thanks for the comment and appreciate you checking out my vlog!
That is a neat little set up and yeah those angle cutters arent cheap but well worth it in the long run and now u can do your own and save money on valve jobs
just as long as it doesn't drop rapidly, ideally if it holds vacuum for 5 seconds or very slowly drops you should be fine, you can also fill the ports with gas or water and watch for seepage into the combustion chamber but most machine shops will confirm / test the valves seal with a vacuum test, Hope that helps!
@@vrm86gt Thanks so much. I filled with gas and i see that it eventually leaks after 3 minutes.. Not sure if that is acceptable. In the beginining it leaks immediately after lapping it hold for 3 minutes.. i hope that is normal.. This is a normal working engine, i changed block because it is burning oil, ... pls advise.
@@jamespatterson9446 yeah that was the first time trying those tools so wasn't a perfect job, one thing I found out after was trickflow puts a 47 degree seat on these stock so maybe I should have tried a 47 degree cutter instead?
@vrm86gt cool deal I wasn't sure if you were just starting off with the whole valve job deal. I just happened to come across your video. Some do different seat angles saying it works better with the design of the ports. Some cases it's true but some they aren't. Recommended seat angles by factory probably don't apply if the heads are being ported.
@@jamespatterson9446 yes I am very much learning as I go! my car went 130 mph in the 1/4 n/a with this valve job so that's pretty decent for this combo and my minimal drag racing skills!
Amazing ingenuity Bro! Your engine is going to be awesome when it’s done!
Thank you, OG! It's getting close!
Pretty cool vrm👌🏼, great stuff 👍🏼🏁
Thank you!

Great work vrm, never seen that before.
Theachinist.told me that's how they test then found a video on how to diy a vacuum tester so figured I'd make one and try it out!
@@vrm86gt Right on
Nice job, that pump is pretty cool also.
pretty cheap and easy to build!
Awesome!!! I like those cutters!!!
Thanks JD!
It's looking so good! Almost a shame it's all going to be hidden 😅
I know, well atleast I got a video when it was all clean!
That's the same thing the girls tell me before I get dressed. Cheers MustangXL. Clearly from your handle (no pun intended) you have the same issue.

Thanks, I figured I'd give it a shot and worst case, If I mess it up, I take the heads in for a valve job and sell off these tools!
Hi can u pls explain once you shut off valve, how much vaccum should be holding and how long please.
