To get your top off easily take a old hair dryer to the top until it moves easily works great for me still stays firm when it cools only warm the top so that its warm to touch
Great question. I have done this to see what happens and it will not tumble correctly or at all. I know it’s hard because your a super excited to get your rocks tumbled. Been there done that. If anything under pack your tumbler to understand the process and keep an air gap. Try packing 2/3 full and water up to the level of the top rocks and each time push the limits by adding more. Great question and feel free to ask questions anytime. I am hoping to add stage 2, 3 and 4 soon they are filmed just need to compile.
@@HDTH Great, sounds good! Maybe my barrel is just so new I could barely squeeze it! I took your advice and put less in, we'll see how it goes. I'd love to see how yours came out, I think I've got it it from here. Thanks for the help!
For sure being new they are a bit stiff and when they are cold. We are looking forward to seeing your results. No problem with the help. If any other questions come up feel free to ask.
Everybody was a rookie once, relax, you'll get it. I've been tumbling for 12 years and I still make mistakes. Thankfully, they're fewer and farther apart now. lol I found that I get the best results in my 3 lb. barrels if I leave a 2" headspace before I add the grit. 1" of filler on the bottom, the rocks to the 2" point, then 3 tablespoons of grit, close, shake and tumble. Burp on day 3. Learn to use the Mohs Scale of Hardness, it will save you much aggravation(I learned this one the hard way). But most importantly, Have Fun turning "yep, that's a rock" into "Wow... that's really the same rock?
I can’t say it better we are always learning something new. And the important part is to have fun. Plus it’s amazing to see the final product. I will be posting the other stages hopefully soon, so you can see how they change. Once you are done please send pictures. I want to have a tribute video to all those that follow/subscribe by showing off there tumbling product. Again always have fun and stay positive. Always ask questions I will do my best in answering or others. Thank you! Happy tumbling!
The top silver metal led will take a little work to take off. Slowly push it off by using your thumb pads pushing it up as you rotate the tumbler. You want this to be snug so it presses the inside tumbler lid to not allow leaking.
I've found it's a bad idea to mix hardness. As the softer gets torn up by the harder it adds to the grit and you won't get a shine on either one. Respect the MOHS! :)
I'm just getting into tumbling. Don't even have my first "trial" set done yet, but they're close to where I'll need to burnish them. I'm learning that I made a lot of mistakes, and I'm WAAAAY too impatient. So I bought 2 more Harbor Freight dual drum tumblers, and an 18lb Vibratory tumbler. I'm also trying out a couple different stage 4 grits. Locally I'm gathering mostly Agate, opal, and jasper, but my true passion is in fluorescent minerals. (You had my subscription when you pulled out your blacklight!) May take me a bit, but I'm sure I'll watch all your videos! Btw, do you use HAM or GMRS for in site comms?
Nice. It’s exciting to see the final product and see how the minerals change. It’s definitely a hobby to be patient. I will be posting more videos hopefully soon getting a new computer. Having more tumblers helps a lot especially working the material in a continuous fashion. Sounds like you have a lot of good minerals in your area. Be careful with the opal it is very soft. I am also interested in the fluorescent materials and need to get more haha. I bring my black light to all my minerals you just don’t know until you shine the light that it fluoresces and then from there you can start identifying. Haha I know what you mean we have a few videos. When I go out with the other two we do carry radios to cover more ground and help find stuff. Thanks for subscribing and expect more fluorescent videos.
I have heard of people using them and also cutting the plastic coat hangers. I have not seen the results but worth a try. The pellets I use are small and already smoothed out. So it might be good to tumble them a bit before use with your rocks/minerals.
Char Ciammaichella rock tumbler filler, typically poly pellets (plastic) offer improved stone tumbling action and noise reduction. They are smooth, rounded and float for easy separation from the rocks once complete. Plastic beads are non-toxic and reusable, but be sure to keep them with the same grit so you don’t damage your rocks on the next stage. These is where I purchase mine kingsleynorth.com/plastic-pellets-5-lbs.html
I don't know where to start. Always, always, always tumble stones of the same hardness in each load. I would be surprised if that fluorite didn't disintegrate in the first step. Your barrel is too full. The ideal amount is 2/3 full. A tad too much water. You want the water to come to the bottom of the top stones.
New to rock tumbling. Thanks for the great video!!
Thank you! I am glad it helped. Feel free to ask questions. And more videos to come.
I appreciate you taking the time to show the process. I have been tumbling for some time and always like to see how others do their rocks :)
Great, I am glad it is helping. Thank you!
My thanks, appreciation and respect to you, sir.. I wish you eternal happiness, health and peace.. success in your work.
Thanks bro. Nice video and editing btw
Thank you! I am glad you liked it and the editing. It is nice to hear. More are coming, it has been busy last couple of months.
Where are you in the high desert? :-)
We are all over in southwest and mountains in the west. It’s a lot of fun and so much to explore and see.

Nice, I will give it a try one of these days. Thank you.
What if I don't have an air bubble after I've closed the barrel? First time tumbling... don't want to blow a gasket

how do you get your tumbler lids off without prying?

I am just getting into this hobby and it seems its one that I'll enjoy.
Thank you.

I was wondering and confused when I see people throw different rocks in one batch and seemingly not mess it up.

Could I use kids Kraft beads for a rock tumbler ?
I have heard of people using them and also cutting the plastic coat hangers. I have not seen the results but worth a try. The pellets I use are small and already smoothed out. So it might be good to tumble them a bit before use with your rocks/minerals.
Who is Ian Potter thank you
Sorry I don’t know an Ian Potter.
Plastic beads? What exactly are they??
plastic pellets from Kingsley north??
