Always love watching and listening to Hummingbirds. 30 years, my late son, who had terminal cancer, for his Make-A-Wish gift he chose a video camera, so I had a camera tripod and we got a couple of feeders and set them up so he could make videos of them, along with the chickens and turkeys on his Grandfather's hobby farm in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia. Thanks for the video, it brought back great memories.
Beautiful! We have them up here in Ohio, next to Lake Erie. I hung the feeder just outside of the living room window. Sometimes these little birds will fly right up to the window and look in at the cats who are watching them from inside! Thank you so much for posting this!
Beautiful Tim, thank you 🙂 Hope your family is well and you are enjoying the time up in NC. Thanks again for the relaxing and National Geographic quality cinematography!
Perfect timing for this video. On Saturday, I hung out my very first hummingbird feeder. I expected it would take weeks for any birds to find it. To my amazement, I was sitting outside Sunday and watched a hummingbird come up to the feeder. It was really exciting! I was kind of far away to be able to tell any colors of the bird and when I tried to come inside and grab my camera, I guess I scared him off. I can't wait to get footage of one drinking. Thanks so much for this post.
NGW or maybe AP did a documentary on hummingbirds. I believe the title was "Jeweled Messengers". It was an amazing look into the many different hummers there are. They are my favorite bird. I had a ruby-throat winter with me one year and I have photos of snow on the roof and he at the feeder. I had to bring the feeder inside every night so it wouldn't freeze, then put it back out first thing every morning. Thank you so much for sharing!! See you next time. ❤❤❤
My uncle had a hummingbird feeder he'd hang out by the clothesline and he'd hang a wire hanger out there for them to sit on, It was so funny because one little hummingbird would sit on that hanger and if any other birds wanted to eat the fight was on. Great video.
So glad that you filmed this! I'm in SC, and I usually have about 3 pairs. Only 1 this year. Have 4 feeders out. They appear to like the feeders with the ring around them to perch on. Thanks again!!
🌺 This is fantastic footage. Love seeing them so close and especially hearing the buzzing wings. These critters are so amazing and almost magical. Thanks so much. - Henry
Such amazing ornery little birds! I love them dearly! Anxiously awaiting their return. I just love how the males throat only appears in the light! Such cool amazing little creatures!😁 Thanks so much for sharing!
Fantastic video! I love pausing and studying the GREAT close up views. While watching them at our house as they have their little battles for the best feeding spots I always hear the sound track from Top Gun running through my head.
So pretty. I played this to get the hummingbirds to come to my feeder. There is such pretty birds here in Georgia, but I do miss my Corsican Finch and monk parakeets from back home
Hello, I really enjoy your clip of the Ruby's. I have been a hummingbird lover since 1970. Some of that time has been spent in Michigan and Ohio when my hubby was working for Gen Motors. I am a fairly new subscriber to your wonderful channel and also enjoy viewing many of your other critter videos. Regards, ~~ Karen Calypte
I see you're visiting the family Tim too cool I have a large family all over North Carolina always loved sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds thanks for bringing it to me in my living room😁
@@teresawebster3498 Our springs have been very cold last couple of years. Google said that i could put them out early April for Ontario. I'll let you know when i see the first at the feeder! Have a good week😊
Thanks for sharing, I love watching these little winged wonders. I also feed them but I don't get too many. I get the Rruby throated ones and a couple of other varieties. I get one kind that is really small, only about 1/2 the size as the ruby throated ones.
Wow Tim! An Amazing video!! Absolutely loved it. We have them at our feeders, but, as you know, they are so fast and our "old" eyes just can't focus that fast. Thank you!! 👍👍🧡
Have never been able to get more than 2 hummers at the feeders at a time. They always fight. Is there a trick to getting them to a point that they share? I have multiple feeders.
Put out more feeders. A dozen feeders will support more than a hundred hummers and they switch back and forth and fight and eat and raise young. They do the same on blooming trees. That's just what they do.
Thank you! We don't have these beauties in my part of Texas. My mother lives in the country, and she had a hummer feeder out front. One year, she had a male hummer find her in the garden, and he got in her face fussing. She swatted at him, but he wouldn't leave! Finally she remembered: the feeder was empty. Just curious, how many of you put feeders out, and you use the 'low sugar' recipe recommended? My mother didn't know about the recommendations: she was just adding enough sugar that she could taste it, then put the solution in the feeder. When she decreased the amount of sugar she used: THE HUMMERS WOULDN'T EAT IT. She went back to her own recipe, and the hummers came back.

Beautiful Hummers!!!!, nice footage!! Do you know that when Hummingbirds fight, they pull the tongue of their opponent all the way out where they are unable to put it back in??? Sad but true, I've had to take a couple to a rescue place where they will care for the little hummers with their tongue out they cannot eat. This place has special feeders to help them to eat and live. They are very territorial on one bottle. I love your videos, thank-you for posting😊
Hi , I assume this your family’s property you go to , to get cam footage of foxes (I think) in the past. I like your technique with closeups of the feeder and the plant perch. Thanks again for your patience. Excellent footage.
I haven’t been able to get shots like these but I was able to film one sitting in place for a few minutes. Also uploaded it to my channel along with other birds. What is the name of the feeder that is hanging down and they drink it while looking up?
Tim Harrell I think I found it. It’s on amazon and you search “Hummingbird Feeder Tube with Drip Resistant Tip”. Also, do you have a recommendation for a $100 or less trail camera? I’m thinking of getting the $150 Browning Strike Force HD Pro X.
Tim I watch all your videos and am considering delving into the trail cam world for a hobby. Yes price is a factor but I go for function always. Any advice for a newby?
My male Ruby's never group feed like this. I have 2 nesting pairs every season, and I have to hide the feeders behind my Pine trees. It works, but they find each other and joust.🤔Great footage Tim! Thankyou!!
This was fun to watch. We don't see this behavior here in Michigan. We rarely see more than one at a time unless it's one being chased out of the area by another one. Maybe it's because they nest here. (?) They'll arrive about May 1st.
I love your great shots of the Hummingbirds. There are so many and where I live, there are only about 15 tops that stay for the summer and the males are always fighting and laying claim to the feeder. My brother and Dad live on the same street and this is the same for their feeders as well. When I have the Yellow Jackets bother the feeders, I use my salt gun and shoot them. Then no more bee''s.
I have feeders without perches. It's better to give them a perch to feed. I know in the wild they hover, but it's always a good idea to give them a place to rest while feeding.
@@ShrikeZone Cool Tim. I definitely wasn't implying that you did not already know this, your HB knowledge and vids are outstanding. The audio was fantastic as well. 😁😁😁👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video Tim. I live in B’ham, AL and we always maintain a feeder for the hummingbirds during spring and summer but they haven’t came back this spring like in the past. Last year there were so many they would fight over a drinking hole. Any ideas why they’re not here this year?
Love your videos, particularly the swamp trail ones, but I noticed you don't have any playlists or compilations up. If you want someone to put some together let me know. Also couldn't find you on Twitter could do something there. Alternatively can you just make a playlist of swap trail videos please?
My two are due back any day now Henry and Harold. If I don't have the feeder out they squeak and dive bomb my head. They know the exact nail the feeder goes on. I put out a bowl of sugar water for the bees so they don't sting the birds.

What a departure from your swamp vids, which l also enjoy .. love the sound that was captured as well .. l loved this video .. well done!
I live in California where there are 5 species of hummingbird, but there is still a place in my heart for the ruby-throated

We have 3-4 feeders out. We use the 1:4 sugar to water ratio.
@@ShrikeZone Thanks! I think the reason the hummers wanted a higher sugar content- was the reality: she didn't have a lot of flowers with nectar.
Great shots!
Waiting for them in PA. My feeders are out. Glad to know they will be here shortly.
