  • Happy New Year! Thank you for all of your continued positive support!
*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
    Thanks for watching!

I was fortunate to meet Brian in January of this year (2022) at a meetup in Quartzsite. What you see here, on this channel, with this video and the others on his channel, is the same humble, kind, giving human being that I and others met and got to know better over those few days. What you see in Brian's videos, is real. It was an honour for me to meet him. To Brain, Kelly, and to all the good people who follow your adventures, I wish you a wonderful and peaceful 2023!

I agree -- F the haters. They hate because that is all haters know how to do. If it were my channel, I'd nuke those bass turds in a heart beat. But I've heard from other channels that such nuking diminishes views/reactions and therefore revenue over time which is extremely unfortunate but it is what it is. :( I guess if you're gonna' play with the devil (FB in this case), you gotta' take the bad with the good. :(

Russell I suspect the reason for under a million followers is that some on utube are looking for drama and total excitement.
I realized that this channel is all about sharing experiences. This channel does a fine job of educating folks about this lifestyle.
This style of living can be tremendously efficient. When Brian notes the expenses of full time work is spot on. For many of us doing the sticks n bricks with full time ++ work ( 60 hours a week) basic living expenses easily eclipse 4500 monthly. Self employment adds a health insurance premium of another 1100 monthly .

My husband and I full-timed for 12 years. After my he died in 2015 started traveling alone and but now at 79 due to some health issues I've had to get an apartment but still travel for 6 months out of the year. Full-time travel is the best life for me. Cheapest way to live and wonderful friends to make. Not everyone understands how great it is, but my Mama used to say if everyone liked the same thing they wouldn't be enough to go around.

I don't know how best to deal with the negativity you speak of? That's a strange part of the human/tech/social media experience. I try to, in my mind, deal with trolls by telling myself that these folks are sad, or lonely, or damaged in some way. There's always a story (we all have a story) and I shouldn't be angry.
I've been following you from the beginning (I miss the Dodge van) and would have to say that your introspection seems to have had a very positive affect...It shows. I've always tried to see the beauty the world has offered us and even when I'm not having the greatest day, I can find joy in knowing somewhere someone is. Keep up the great lifestyle and I wish you all the best in 2023.

Thanks for this thoughtful video. A few years back, I had a small RUclips channel where I provided useful information and reviews. I never monetized it, and my motives were to be helpful to others. Most of the comments were very positive, but I certainly had my share of sad humans who would criticize me on everything from my content, my video equipment, how I talked and personal attacks on how I looked. After the initial shock, I ignored the negative people and focused on the positive ones. However, it showed me how misery loves company, as most negative folks seemed to have been pretty sad and miserable individuals.
I'm glad you have found a way to lead your life on your own terms. I'm retired, but I continue to try to grow every day. I part-time van dwell, mostly for fun. Life is better when you realize that you are living your goals, not someone else's.

It's all possible. It can be done for under $1200. a month, in my own experience. 76 years old and life is still an "Adventure".

However I still live solo in my Class A Motorhome and am able to do all the necessary chores and still drive it with no problems. Watched 2 vids and I admire your guts, your honesty and mostly I like your desire to offer your way of life as an alternative to the rat race that most of us are trapped in. I'm 62, thinking a lot about a simpler existence. One that costs much less and yet affords greater value. Many of us have been sucked in to the "more stuff" mentality. More stuff just means more to store and care for, more to be responsible for and less time to really live. Thank you for sharing some tremendous insights. Be well, Friend.

Before Bob started his RUclips channel you were the guy to watch to actually teach you how to vanlife, and even noe I'd still rather watch yours. Thank you for that.

Brian, Thanks for your honesty. I recently just found your channel. Even though the lifestyle is not for me, I love camping. My only suggestion for future videos is to include your music. I find you and your music to really touch the spirituality of yourself, your surroundings, and what you are all about. So, thanks again, and happy 2023. Brian D.

You're a very admirable human. I too am a recovering addict living in my van on the go. I respect your goals that you set for your life and how they're personal growth goals, I set similar goals for myself. Thanks for existing.

Thank you for another heart-felt video. I appreciate your channel because it's about living a full human experience with integrity and honesty, versus simply being a "van life influencer." Health and safe travels in 2023!

For some of the same reasons I lived in and drove 18 wheelers coast to coast for 20 years. Saved money, got sober, invested in some property, now I don't have to do a d**m thing.

ALL GOOD STUFF BRO. YOU DESERVE THE LIFE YOU LEAD. WERE HERE ONLY FOR A SHORT TIME . LIFES A CLASSROOM , NOT A COURTROOM. LET EVERY DAY YOU LIVE , MAKE YOU HAPPY, AND BE ACCOUNTABLE TO THE PERSON IN THE MIRROR. ITS PEACE WE SEEK, I TOO AM LEARNING TO LIVE OFF WAY LESS, BUT IM SO CLOSE TO 62, MY HEALTH IS THE PROBLEM. SO WORK IS ALMOST OUT OF THE QUESTION. I RARELY LEAVE THE PROPERTY AT ALL & FUNDS ARE REAL TIGHT , ESPECIALLY AFTER MY LAYOFF IN 2020. I WENT DOWNHILL, 85% CUT IN INCOME. THATS A SHOCKER. SO IT IS HUMBLING LEARNING TO SURVIVE. BUT 2 YEARS LATER AND 3 TO GO..... THANK YOU JESUS. THE LORD SUPPLIES. SAFE TRAVELS AND HAVE A BLESSED 2023 BRIAN....

I've been following you for a couple of years now. I rarely post but I thoroughly enjoy your channel and look forward to your posts. When I heard you say some folks leave mean posts I had to tell you. ---- Haters got hate. I think you do a great job and love following your channel.😉👋💫

Hey man, as a fellow Bryan, someone just getting into this way of living (on and off for the last year, hoping to hit the road full time in March/April), and a recovering alcoholic, thank you for taking the time to make this video. It is truly appreciated. Inspiring to hear the success stories of others who’ve been at it for an extended time and also super informative. Can be daunting financially jumping into the unknown, but your story gives me a lot of confidence in making the right decision. Thanks for for being vulnerable and having the courage to be open and honest. And thanks for all you do my friend, I appreciate you!

Thanks for that rundown on costs. I was actually a little amazed at your fuel costs, which are similar to mine with a 55km (35mi) a day drive, but then I realize you're driving a cube-van so it eats more than a car. Still, you're not paying property tax, electrical bills, fire insurance, etc. I am considering this lifestyle, at least for a while after I retire. I'm glad you're enjoying it. There's so much to see.
As for the detractors, some people are intrinsically miserable, and they lash out at those who are happy. Remember that living well is the best revenge.🙂

Trolls are a fact of life. We might not get notes on our desk but management and other coworkers provide negative environments. Your channel is great and positive. I can't find anything negative about you or the channel. Keep up the good work.
