Dad use to say he was Jack of all Trades Master of none. He did carpentry, laid flooring, roofing, plumbing, mechanic, night watchman, Bread deliveryman. He was never really out of a job. He said work at a job till you knew what you were doing, then if a better paying job showed up go to it.
I love working on the road. Even temp jobs. I’m not good at sitting. I meet lots of people. Learn new places to hike. The moneys there if I need it but it’s mostly keeping busy. Sitting at a computer or just watching the birds fly won’t work for me. Heading to Yellowstone now. Dorm life in my 60’s!! Confidence & a smile will go far.
This guy is GREAT! Because he completely understands the keys to personal success. Not by scamming or taking advantage of someone else, but by tapping his inner strengths and abilities. Very refreshing! Thank you for sharing!
The Michigan beet harvest seems to be a bit less harsh weather wise 🤷🏻♀️, and they have 9 and 12 hour shifts. Last year was my first year and I’ve already signed up for this year! I used Bob as my referral 😉.
You must be young and healthy right? I’m middle aged but have some physical limitations. I couldn’t do anything for 9 hrs. I wish I could. Best of luck
I love new ideas for earning money as a nomad. I’m especially intrigued about the van rental with Outdoorsy. I’m finally about to buy a used RV for my own travel & this gives me some ideas & encouragement to think outside the box for passive income, since my age & disabilities limit some of my choices for work. Thanks, Bob, as always!👍🏻
I, too, have been watching videos like this one for ideas on how to earn money as I go. I have been wanting to start the vandwelling lifestyle for quite some time. I'm still fighting for social security/disability (which is taking a LOT longer than I had hoped). As soon as I am able to get it, I plan on getting a van to convert into a camper van, convert it, and hit the road. I am very fortunate in that I have an absolute TON of camping gear to use in the conversion to save money.
My fave video here!!! Hands on skills are becoming a rare commodity now that you've mentioned it. More rare is the multiple skilled trade hands on set. And that takes investment of time and life teachers. And because of this video I shall reassess my worth. The electricians back in the day didn't call me MACGYVER for nothing. Many thanks for the Life wisdom's passed along for the tribal knowledge. I am successful because of all of You!! Believe it! And I shall pass this along as well. 😁
I’m a lady in the midwest who wants to do this w my dog but so scared to go alone. A frw years ago you could head out and camp w bobs crew but not anymore.
A lot of great ideas . He talks about what he knows and he knows a lot. I'm hesitant about asking strangers about doing a job for me but I think I should just ask more people about people they might know that would do a good job. Thanks Bob for this special video.
This is very helpful! Thank you for making these videos. Many of us might not know how to start otherwise. Thank you for sharing with others because affordable and fun living options are needed.
I'm a retired Chiropractor and have often wondered about "Healers" in the van life community. Are there people living in RVs that do some kind of pain relief, muscle work, acupuncture or something else of that nature to make money. I'm interested in the ins and outs and permits and licensing and insurance and all that. Anyone? Thank you in advance.
I live in the Bakken of ND and work in oil and gas, since 2006. I bought a house and other than the winters it’s a GREAT place to live and make money. I take my camper van to the Roosevelt National park and other areas on the summer weekends. It’s beautiful!
I have a bad back at 37. I was in 5 car accidents all someone running into the back of me at a red light. I wanna do a set number of months to work and then travel. it is to ambitious ambiguous to make the jump but I know its coming for me.
Interesting fellow nomad. Sounds like he's made some solid, wise decisions. Also, besides diversification of skill-set, make sure to take care of body & mind, as able. This is alluded to, and we're all (?) aware of it, and probably see advertisements daily about it.
You mentioned your hands and knees hurt. I stopped eating meat and dairy/cheese and my arthritis is GONE. I didn't stop eating meat and dairy for that reason. It was a side benefit. Try 'whole food plant based' eating for a week.
Hi, I love this channel and Bob is a remarkable individual. I just retired and planning on living the van life for the years my health allows it, that I hope is many. Those experienced at living the van or rv life have a treasure of knowledge, and I'm hoping to find a way to tap into it, and would like to seek their advice on a few things. I've watched all of Bob's videos but still have questions. Can you fine readers of these comments please advise a novice like me where there is a blog or site that would allow me to directly interact with experienced full time rv and van adventurers who weather travel from season to season, and disperse camp legally on government land? I know how to find information on where dispersed camping is allowed, regulations, weather, emergency preparation, etc, Bob has taught me a lot. What I'm hoping to acquire is the opinions and advice of these experienced individuals. Any suggestions are much appreciated. I'm not beginning my adventure until June, so your kind suggestion will not be too late if you don't read this until the early summer of 2023.
I'm pretty sure this young man was a deck hand on a singles cruise I took in Guatemala last year, nice guy! But don't play dominoes against him, he's a real shark!
A alternative to a step van, is a box truck step thru cab. but again you be hard pressed to find one that's aluminum. you would have too find a 70s truck all them new ones are made of fiber glass and are really light duty .
This guy has the right attitude about work and he has experience in many different industries including back breaking work. I can relate to him in many ways. I met my first husband while working in Oregon and Idaho. I worked on a potato harvester sorting out the big clots and whatever else we were required to do back in that day and age and my husband drove the truck with his best buddy and my sister is still married to the same guy she met during that time. We have such a big world and this guy seems to have a lot of experience and a wonderful attitude and dream about what he wants to do when he settles down. This has been one of the best interviews. I’ve seen Bob. Keep up the good work and keep those fine folks visiting your channel.👍
Thank you both for this very wonderfully informative video!!! Sharing that knowledge that most people don't really is what helps keep things moving in the right direction
I don’t have any blue collar skills, but I’d be willing to be someone’s helper to learn some skills and help them and then I would have to pay for a class, and both would win.
I've wanted to do this as well but these days no one is looking for a helper or apprentice at least in my area. it really sucks because I've wanted this since i was a teen
Grumman olson aluminum step van comes in 14 ft to 18 foot boxes made out of aluminum is what you are going to need for extended stays in a home in wheels ....
Awesome video Bob. This is how we were raised. If you don't have a job create one. A job is a job. I don't care if you're shoveling dog poop or flipping burgers. A honest day's work for an honest day's pay! We also were taught the bartering of goods and services. Much Respect 4 hard working honest people. Now these youngster need to see people like this guy. He's not begging or stealing from others! I love it! ❤️ I was telling a friend earlier. Parents need to be parents and stop trying to be their childrens friend! Discipline saved me LOL! 😆 🤣 😂 Our youth need guidance and to be taught work ethics! 😃
What about medical? A medical emergency? I could never live this kind of life because I'm epileptic and I can't drive after a seizure. But I find this kind of living very interesting ❤️
Good informative video. I don't have Instagram and don't want to sign up for it. Is there an email for Steve to inquire about hiring him? Located near Flagstaff. Thank you.
Doing a lot of jobs isn't much of a way to build a 401K, but there is nothing that beats the experiences. Wait until old age to see the country? That's what's risky.
This is awesome and so inspiring! Looking for a van now, want to pay it off then get on the road! So exciting to find this community! Iv been in trades for 10yrs now so hopefully that will help with work on the road 🤟🤟🤟
He mentioned putting into social security if I am not mistaken. That is always a good idea if people pay just cash or a check and you are considered self employed. You may be able to - please check with tax people - cut some corners based on the individual but if you forget putting into social security - again check with tax people - it will reduce your retirement checks later in life. If you do work a job that takes out social security make sure they give you a check showing that they have done so or they may be cheating you.
I'm trying to get ready to live in a van (not by choice). I'm limited physically n have no income because of it. I have no skills of any sort, thus, no idea what I'm going to do but eh, it is what it is. good luck out there everyone!
Wish I had a way to join the Life on the road before my Days are gone . can not afford anything but have a Truck . 2002 Chevy. These Hame made Vans and class C are awesome . Good Luck to all Travelers SAFE TRAVELS .❤️🚌🌏
You need a eb55 bluetti minimum or bigger power station , chiness metel deisel heater w 12 gauge power wire from battery , and a 1200 watt generator, and 5000 watt window AC unit with soft start and you will be ok 400 watts solar is good enouph to keep a charge and use a 12 v freezer fridge set up . with Grumman olson aluminum step van is the only way to do this in comfort on the cheap . I payed 4k plus my labor on convertion And its unbeatable Thea r is not subsistute I will post my vuds and show how to do this asap
Hi, I have a question for anyone out there who might see this comment. So i want to start van lifing soon, and I was wondering how i can get some hands on experience? Ive been thinking about getting into electrician work but im not sure i want to commit to a 4 year apprenticeship. Do a majority of you have a journeymans license in some kind of trade or do you guy's just find something and learn on the job?
Dad use to say he was Jack of all Trades Master of none. He did carpentry, laid flooring, roofing, plumbing, mechanic, night watchman, Bread deliveryman. He was never really out of a job. He said work at a job till you knew what you were doing, then if a better paying job showed up go to it.
So did my dad. He was a master electrician and color blind if you can imagine that.
And never leave one without one to go to
Dad was a good man
"a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one." Quote William Shakespeare.
The full phrase is “a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”😊
Steve installed our solar system at Discount Solar. He did a great job. He is a great individual to work with.
Living this lifestyle will secure your future when you get older. Never too late to start.

I lived in the Black Hills for 15 years. There’s so much tourism and pop up things to work at in the summer and it’s absolutely beautiful there!
The Michigan beet harvest seems to be a bit less harsh weather wise 🤷🏻♀️, and they have 9 and 12 hour shifts. Last year was my first year and I’ve already signed up for this year! I used Bob as my referral 😉.

I applied, but I stealth camp in my car full time so wasn’t able to
What a truly nice person! Great guy and he's creative too! Loved the Outdoorsy, multiple van rentals idea. Thanks for sharing Bob!
Wonderful young man, so resourceful. He will go far in life.

IMO this is a very smart man that knows what he wants in life and is enjoying life while living life to it's fullest
This is exactly what I needed to see today as a future Nomad
I’m a lady in the midwest who wants to do this w my dog but so scared to go alone. A frw years ago you could head out and camp w bobs crew but not anymore.
I do this for a few years now some hate it some understand always be safe and alert esp for who's looking at your vehicle
Very inspiring, a renaissance lifestyle for diversification of skills and income!
It's not so easy for seniors to find work camp jobs,
A lot of great ideas . He talks about what he knows and he knows a lot. I'm hesitant about asking strangers about doing a job for me but I think I should just ask more people about people they might know that would do a good job.

If you're near Phoenix in February and March, the Arizona Renaissance Faire is always hiring and offers camping spots, but no hook ups.
Being able to use your hands will never go out of style.

Hi Bob. I want to pay the solar guy to install nomad top my truck van. !💃. I am a senior ready to start!
I work for Safeway(like Bob did), so I just transfer to a new store in a new town when I get tired of the current one. Oregon Vanlifer.
Very very interesting interview. Thank you! I'd rather watch this channel over anything on TV or in theaters.
I'm glad to hear this! I waited 20 years to go full time because I'm a mechanic and contractor, and I couldn't see doing that stuff on the road.
An affordable mobile mechanic would be wonderful in any area!! And needed!!
Go spend a year in the ND oilfield, most companies offer paid housing. It's very easy to make 6 figures if you're not afraid to work hard.
I live in the Bakken of ND and work in oil and gas, since 2006. I bought a house and other than the winters it’s a GREAT place to live and make money. I take my camper van to the Roosevelt National park and other areas on the summer weekends. It’s beautiful!

I needed to see this today. Thank you.
Thanks for continuing to give all of us hope for our futures. God Bless you Bob!
Great video! I pretty much have lived my life like I was retired. You have to be a risk taker and not be a hurry.
What a fun person to know!
I encourage youth to learn as much as possible (apply)ie hands on- while youthful to assure resources throughout life's journeys...
It's nice to learn when you're useful just don't get caught level one job
You mentioned your hands and knees hurt. I stopped eating meat and dairy/cheese and my arthritis is GONE. I didn't stop eating meat and dairy for that reason. It was a side benefit. Try 'whole food plant based' eating for a week.

Great interview Bob, very interesting gentleman.
Connections, and skills. :D
Being paid well cannot keep pace with saving consistently
Wise nomadic men. Also, great to have humble yet powerful advice for trades people in growing economically.

Looking thinner, Bob!
Interesting young man
#Grateful 🙏 love you guys, thank you, #mahalo #Nomad Bob Wells
This is great for men. But what about women? You should do a video on jobs that women do living the van life.
A jack of all trades is better than a master of one is the original saying
What would be the best way to go around finding these kinds of jobs or any jobs rather if you would prefer working under the table ?
I like his T-shirt
