    Here's the correct reading order.
    The original comic, and nothing else. It was a complete series, had a start, middle and end and didn't need anything else. The rest doesn't matter. I recently read Doomsday Clock and the Watchmen parts were unneeded. They could have done that story without bringing in Watchmen, and they could just do new things instead of draining this awesome comic like a parasite. Read the original comic, ignore everything else.

    • @TBATB
      @TBATB  2 месяца назад

      I don’t think you’re supposed to read doomsday clock as a sequel to watchmen, I think doomsday clock is a Meta commentary on why Superman as a character still matters and is relevant in a post watchmen Comic Book landscape. If you watch the video, I clearly say that all you need to do is read watchmen, but I didn’t want to be a resource in case anyone didn’t want to read any of DC ridings watchmen’s corpse.

    Wow! You waited until the veeeeery end to mention the phenomenal HBO Watchmen miniseries! It was such a good, unique sequel to the original comic and I don't think it gets nearly enough credit. It's one of my favorite TV shows of the last decade.
    Also! The Rorschach series by Tom King and Jorge Fornes! It came out alongside Strange Adventures, also by Tom King, and a lot of people seemed to skip Rorschach, but that was another really good book! To call it "a Watchmen sequel" is definitely not doing it justice...it was a really good look at legacy and mental illness (because Tom King), wrapped up in a cool retro political thriller. I loved it

    You forgot about the best Watchmen rip-off! ‘Rorschach’ by Tom King is BY FAR the best thing that came out of Watchmen’s legacy. It is (imo) the best thing King has ever written, incorporating real life comic book history (like Frank Miller and Steve Ditko) and Watchmen lore in a political murder thriller. It has more dialogue than action and it is very grounded, grim and realistic, so very different than anything else that DC puts out. It is completely separate from the DC universe, taking place entirely in the Watchmen world. Also, the art is great, very David Mazzuchelli-like. Watching the HBO sequel series beforehand is nice, but not necessary by any means, although I’d also recommend watching that, because both of these outings are far better than all the DC/Watchmen crossovers. Other than that, very nice video 👍

    • @TBATB
      @TBATB  2 месяца назад

      Honestly, at the time of the video, even though I’m a massive Tom King fan I hadn’t read it yet! Since then, I’ve read it twice and both times I feel like I don’t have enough background knowledge on the comic book writers to understand all the inside jokes so I think it’s amazing but I think it’s not for me yet until I do more history and deep diving on the characters of Steve Dio and his philosophies and Frank Miller and all of that stuff because it felt like hearing a hilarious inside joke that I didn’t know the context for.

    • @LCreates
      @LCreates 2 месяца назад

      @@TBATB just check their Wikipedia pages for a bit and you’ll be fine. King here personifies some themes and philosophies that are embedded in key entries in the comic book medium (thus fitting the theme of him writing a contribution to THE key entry in the comic book medium, namely Watchmen) and lets them play out in a thriller scenario, while also parodying and exaggerating these persons/philosophies, rather than him just telling a plain story. Yeah, it’s quite layered, so I understand it’s a bit niche and not for everybody. Apart from all this, I suspect it’s still a good read, but I can’t be sure because I took to the internet during my first read, which really helped me appreciate the story for what it was. Cool that you guys still respond to old videos btw 😁
