This game is so underrated. They always talk about the graphics. But people rarely talk about its great, amazing gameplay. Its rock-solid mechanics. Its just too good. So many amazing moments. I've been playing games since the days of Pac-Man (I'm old), and this is one of the best games I've ever played.
This game was considered as one of the best game of the year in 2007 though. I think it is the best technical achievement game of those year considering Crysis is the most demanding and the developer was really pushed the graphic to the boundaries...

This is what happens when you focus all your resources into a single platform, with no need of worrying to make it playable for consoles. Cyrsis 2 and 3 suffers from their linearity because they are made in mind for consoles as well. I dont think there is any game right now that has the same wow factor this game had back in 07.
The only reason I was able to play this game is because it was available for the PS3 console (2011). I still play the hell out of it and it only lags slightly when it autosaves. The only difference I could think of in terms of gameplay is the V-TOL mission that wasn't included. I completely agree with your point, but I'm also happy to add that the console version of this game is very fun for me personally!

So far, it's become apparent to me that people who said that either had never played it and due to their lack of the ability to do so, decided to just bad mouth it.. Or they just don't know what's up. Because this game is awesome!! The mechanics are solid, the fully open world is believable. And it truly succeeds in making you feel like a badass. I havent finished yet, so I dunno about the story, but the gameplay frigging rocks!
It isn't just you. Crysis is not just a good game, it's a great one. Those who say it looks great but has crappy gameplay or is nothing more than a tech demo obviously haven't spent much (if any) time playing it.

I'm playing on my 360 right now so the graphics are ass and its still an amazing game. The way they transition it from an average fps to a sci fi shooter is great
I played this game on a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor, with 512 MB of RAM and a Radeon 9550 GPU. It ran "playable" on low, but it took 20 minutes to load a level, and 512 MB of memory was so low that sometimes, when I had been some time sneaking without shooting anyone, the game would freeze to load the shot sound from disk when I finally took a shot.
Crysis 1: 9.5/10 Crysis Warhead: 9/10 (for its price) Crysis 2: 9/10 (gameplay, scope of story, optimization, graphics, flexibility, enhanced nanosuit, decent MP) Crysis 3: 8/10: Great graphics, even more flexible gameplay, even better optimization, decent story and great overall finisher. But SHORT campaign, fewer levels and a general missing sensation of awe that the first 3 games brought.
Kagarin? The coolest thing about Crysis 3 was the bow, I love setting the draw weight to strong and pinning enemies to a wall with an arrow it's so satisfying.

I recently got this game for free at a book shop, been playing it like a fiend and just beat it tonight. I have it running on very high and it looks great, for 2007 it was ahead of it's time. The environments make some current games pale in comparison, sunlight coming through the jungle canopy, underwater, everywhere has a richness of immersion.
15 years later and I'm still in love with this series! Hopefully we get a new one at some point. Could you just imagine how it would look and play now??

I enjoy these old IGN review not entirely because I feel they are better reviews but the nostalgia that it bring, such as when I was a kid I wanting to know what games were worth the money or which weren't and owning a game that they high regarded as great(Fallout 3) made me feel good for having had bought it before hand RIP IGN it was a good run.
It really is remarkable how well this game has aged in the 4 years that have passed since its release. Hell, it'll probably look great for another 2-3 years. One of the most entertaining and incredible first person shooter experiences in gaming history.

(On lower settings it is smoother) Is this the case with yours or is the performance perfectly smooth on ANY setting? i think it's basically because they were expecting it to wrap up. remember that we didn't know it was going to be a series and were expecting everything to close neatly. then suddenly it leaves you with a massive cliffhanger and you're not sure what to make of it.

add in rygel's rock and foilage texture mod and its pretty much unbeatable by anything other than crysis 3 and Battlefield 1. but the plant detail still beats all the textures in in BF1 with rygel's textures its just amazing.

It's amazing to see how a game could be way way way ahead of its time. Just now with my rig I can enjoy it at stable 60 fps at maximus settings (8xMSAA), it took us 7 years to reach the appropriate hardware. I just wonder will we ever see such a thing again in this time and age...I doubt tho....

If you play games to be "hardcore" then you shouldn't play games. It shouldn't matter what system somebody plays on to enjoy a game (as long as it works anyways). If you think playing a game on a PC makes you a god, you seriously need some help.
I always gamed primarily on Consoles. Only after 2008, I switched to PC gaming but still kept my Consoles. It's like the only thing most PC fanboys talk about is the graphics when it comes to this game. Why not mention things like the gameplay? I'm not a big Crysis fan, but even then, the enemy AI is intelligent, the alien enemies are not only badass looking but legitimately intimidating, the nanosuit powers are fun as hell to use, especially throwing guys around like ragdolls, choosing different paths, etc. I may not be a fan, but even those I say are very good and well done, so why aren't those mentioned as much as the graphics? I mean come on.
Because the graphics of Crysis at the time were unmatched, which can't be said for any other element of the game. There are and were games out there with better AI, gameplay, and pretty much every other element, but not with those amazing graphics.

This game is just awesome, played it way back in 08' on my friends PC only for about 2 or 3 hours and it was amazing and cutting edge then. Now 4 years latter I am playing it on the 360, and its still agonizingly beautiful and cutting edge and it is just epic.
Developed with PC in mind instead of console. They push to the limit for PC hardware. That's why this game still melting the gaming PC 😏. Console can't even handle this game as well if the devs wasn't do something about it

What do stereo types have to do with my gaming preferences? I've been gaming for 30 years. I think I know by now how I enjoy my games. I also don't care for better graphics, I'm a gameplay gamer, I don't pay to play pixels or frame rates. I never said I didn't use a controller, It's just not the same on PC. I would say no. I played Crysis 2 at my friend's house (and loved it) and it's a completely different story arc. It takes place in NYC, as opposed to a tropical island, and you play as a marine who becomes a super soldier through certain circumstances. I won't ruin it for you. All you need to know is that it's a really fun game. I'd recommend it.
Running this in 1920x1080 res. with all possible graphical options set to very high. It did it on it's own. The default settings for me are all on very high, runs perfectly. I've yet to see even one console game that looks this good and this game came out back in 07. I mean think of most console games that are four years old. No comparison.

@Koryo8 the review is made on dx9 and on medium setting,play it in dx10 very high and you will see it still is better looking than most modern game and don't forget it was released on november 2007 and the review was made december 2008 and still their computer was weak to play it
@BigRandomBox Actually, nevermind. Apparently on max settings it stutters a little, but on medium settings it runs perfectly smooth. (On high settings it's smooth, but medium is best) My graphics card is to blame.

Crysis still manages to kick ass even when compared to many of today's games.Just need to install a couple of visual mods and we r good to go

If you play games to be "hardcore" then you shouldn't play games. It shouldn't matter what system somebody plays on to enjoy a game (as long as it works anyways).

I always gamed primarily on Consoles. Only after 2008, I switched to PC gaming but still kept my Consoles. I'm not saying playing on PC makes me hardcore or a better gamer now but Console hardware has limitations and Crysis 2's design suffered from it. It's a fact. Crysis 1 had huge open levels. I feel like if this is what graphics were like 9 years ago, I'm slightly disappointed with where we're at today.
It's like the only thing most PC fanboys talk about is the graphics when it comes to this game. Why not mention things like the gameplay? I'm not a big Crysis fan, but even then, the enemy AI is intelligent, the alien enemies are not only badass looking but legitimately intimidating, the nanosuit powers are fun as hell to use, especially throwing guys around like ragdolls, choosing different paths, etc. I may not be a fan, but even those I say are very good and well done, so why aren't those mentioned as much as the graphics? I mean come on.
Because the graphics of Crysis at the time were unmatched, which can't be said for any other element of the game. There are and were games out there with better AI, gameplay, and pretty much every other element, but not with those amazing graphics.

This game is just awesome, played it way back in 08' on my friends PC only for about 2 or 3 hours and it was amazing and cutting edge then. Now 4 years latter I am playing it on the 360, and its still agonizingly beautiful and cutting edge and it is just epic.
This game is 10 times more awesome in 3d! I don't understand what people have against 3d nowadays, but it's awesome!

Developed with PC in mind instead of console. They push to the limit for PC hardware. That's why this game still melting the gaming PC 😏. Console can't even handle this game as well if the devs wasn't do something about it

What do stereo types have to do with my gaming preferences? I've been gaming for 30 years. I think I know by now how I enjoy my games. I also don't care for better graphics, I'm a gameplay gamer, I don't pay to play pixels or frame rates. I never said I didn't use a controller, It's just not the same on PC. You aren't wrong about anything, it's just not my preference.

I would say no. I played Crysis 2 at my friend's house (and loved it) and it's a completely different story arc. It takes place in NYC, as opposed to a tropical island, and you play as a marine who becomes a super soldier through certain circumstances. I won't ruin it for you. All you need to know is that it's a really fun game. I'd recommend it.

Running this in 1920x1080 res. with all possible graphical options set to very high. It did it on it's own. The default settings for me are all on very high, runs perfectly. I've yet to see even one console game that looks this good and this game came out back in 07. I mean think of most console games that are four years old. No comparison.

I wish people would stop comparing Crysis and Farcry. They're both amazing games but they're also completely seperate experiences. They both have strengths and weaknesses.

Yeah I got all of them (yes ALL of them, including the crysis 2 maximum edition) for £10 on Steam during the summer sale. Nothing can beat that.

@Koryo8 the review is made on dx9 and on medium setting,play it in dx10 very high and you will see it still is better looking than most modern game and don't forget it was released on november 2007 and the review was made december 2008 and still their computer was weak to play it
@BigRandomBox Actually, nevermind. Apparently on max settings it stutters a little, but on medium settings it runs perfectly smooth. (On high settings it's smooth, but medium is best)
