More than you know. I was losing this fight badly, was out of MP, had dropped to 800 hp, was sure I was going to die, when one of them commented "OOOOO Cloud's gonna need a potion after that one" and I remembered I could use items and had Elixirs. Completely forgot I could use items until then (I played remake's hard mode before this came out, which bans items).
Yeah I never really understood why we never had a Rufus rematch in the og game after the Shinra Tower fight, I hope there's another one in part 3 to finish it off with a bang lol
Wow, this music always gives me goosebumps. That Shinra theme transformed into a president fight, transformed into a showfight is just something else....
I played both remake and rebirth. And holy shit Rufus and Roche is the hardest boss ever. Died so many time, not even Sephiroth is that hard. I guess because I'm not used to action lol _ _" or just bad at blocking. Rufus is the coolest tho, didn't expect a guy with a gun will be that badass (due to other games making gunmen only as DPS main and bad at defending). Thank you for all these tracks you provided!
Fun fact: The English adaptation makes it very clear that the only reason Rufus shows up at the Gold Saucer is to put up a big show and distract the party long enough so that Cait Sith can deliver the Keystone to Tseng, but the original Japanese dialogue implies he really wanted to kick Cloud's ass, and at the end of the fight was GENUINELY having fun. So yeah, I know what's gonna happen in Part 3, but I'm expecting a final fight with Rufus. His rivalry with Cloud is too fleshed out to be just a minor plot point.
I mean, even in the English version I got the sense when I played that he really wanted to kick Cloud's ass lol. Given the amount of showing off he does and how much joy he seems to get out of it, I think it shines through regardless.
@supremeoverlorde2109 Yeah, absolutely, I'm not saying the English adaptation is bad here (I mean, I still think it sucks ass in some points, but just not here specifically). I was mostly referring to the way that some dialogues have been changed. For example, when the fight ends, in the English version Rufus says _"Enough of this farce"_ and that clearly shows what his entire plan was. In the Japanese version, he says something among the lines of _"Mmh, shame the party's over."_ which shows even more that he was having fun.
@supremeoverlorde2109 Yeah, Rebirth is really a "hit or miss" with it, because either it's fucking genius or it screws up the sense entirely. There are some points where the sense is almost completely lost (like when Marlene talks about Sephiroth and says Aerith is gonna get killed by a dude with "grey hair", while the original clearly specified she said "silver") and others were it makes the scene even better (two examples are the scene with Cloud Jr., where Cloud realises how similar he is to the bird and in the original he says _"Cut it out"_ to the party, while in the English adaptation he literally says _"Kill me",_ and the scene where Barret and Red open the huge Gi door, where Barret gets scared and in the original he says _"W-what's going on...?!"_ while in the English adaptation he goes _"MARLENE! DADDY LOVES YA!")_
Damn. I really wish there was more chanting, favorably reminds me of Pokemon Sword/Shield. Imagine if they were chanting 'Ru-FUS!' at phase 1, but then in the final phase they were chanting "CLOUD! CLOUD!'.
@XeNoGeArZXZ This boss changes the way you have to fight after all. For a casual player it can be quite frustrating, but its actually a fun battle if you know the mechanics, like bullet counting.
Guard when he does his shotgun dash, then immediately retaliate with Disorder, then land a Punisher Mode combo until you see a shield go up. Rinse and repeat. When his pet joins, use your summon, and do a limit break, then use Thundaga on it.
This is a boss who definitely requires something to beat. Luck? Skill? Materia?Idk, but clearly, the devs didn't know either. Still have no idea how I beat him
@@mattappl3119materia. Use your steadfast block materia and I think precision defense materia to build up ATB by guarding and also to like, be able to guard easier
as someone who loved the 4 boss battles in a row from Remake's chapter 17, Rufus has a steep learning curve, but it is a lot of blocking and dodging. If you can, save the limit break for Darkstar, and that removes half of the difficulty
I hated this scene so much. Rufus is a fairly pragmatic character, not a dope who showboats in an arena instead of taking what he needs quickly and efficiently. This whole section of the plot needed to be ripped out and rewritten by people who weren't trying to remake Yakuza. The track itself is decent, just marred by association.
Rufus had 2 minutes of dialogue in the og game and you want to extrapolate personality out of him? The second that man gets used in the story, he 'dies'. OG did this bastard JUSTICE by being power hungry like his dad, but far more calculative and savage.
Wasn't his role here as "big distraction they wouldn't be able to ignore"? It makes sense that he goes in, causes a scene and let's his team get the stuff they need secured. Sounds like he played the boss really well here and was very....quick and efficient.
@@ssniku22not only that but he and dark star are more than capable of going toe to toe with cloud atleast long enough to buy time for the Turks like you said.

Gives a whole new meaning to "boss battle."
President Fight
a cut throat President Boss fight
@@Sommion CEO Scrap
I love the sound of a chanting crowd considering where this fight happens. Nice little detail
Cloud vs Rufus with Kotch and Scotch commentating is something nobody asked for or expected yet we all needed.

I didn’t expect it as well lol…it was a welcoming surprise tho
Yeah I never really understood why we never had a Rufus rematch in the og game after the Shinra Tower fight, I hope there's another one in part 3 to finish it off with a bang lol
Same, it really made it more exciting to experience
"RUFUS SHINRA IS FORCED TO EAT SHIT!" is so satisfying to hear it spurs me on.
I like to imagine Rufus saw a "Rude and Elena left the party" message the same way we saw one for Aerith and Tifa leaving lol
"We salute you Rufus Shinra...!! Our president who we all adore!"
This dude walled me pretty bad on hard mode for a while.
Took me a few tries I won't lie I was too aggressive and that screwed me over alot
I never noticed the Rufus welcoming ceremony tune in the intro till now XD so awesome!
thank you so much for including the cutscene at the start! i was looking everywhere for the ost!
He's so good at shit-talking it actually made me go over-aggressive and get my ass handed over to him on hard mode on a few occasions
God I love the intro part for his theme
Such a travesty that the intro was not included as part of "Rumble with Rufus" on the OST.
Rufus now is like Seto Kaiba with a shotgun
“You’re a 3rd rate SOLDIER with a 4th rate sword”
@@Soki7000😂😂😂😂
They have to make a Blood Queen duel with him for the next part 🦖🦖🦖
I have thought that way for years when I first played the original lol
@@MauuZz When he plays the Green Eyes Mako Dragon card, you know you're done.
2:45 too epic...
The beat at the 3 minute mark is such an ear worm for me

Rufus is hard because of that dumb OP counter he has anytime you do a regular swing. Triple slash is your best friend in this fight
This isn't a Boss Battle Theme. This is a President Battle Theme.
Thanks for including the intro. However, you missed phase 3's song (into only triggers if you defeat dog before beating Rufus)

I'm guessing using the fire spell isn't an easy out this time?
He absorbs every magic element. Or is immune to, I'm not sure which
Have you done the lower junon boss yet?

Have you done midgardsormer
Yup bro! You can see it on my channel home page bro ^^!
Materia Gear Solid
can you please do the ost thet plays after dragon boss in Ancient temple(after Arieth and cloud separate)
It's the same with Midgardsormr's theme. So I've skipped this theme bro ^^!
