Beating the hell outta Palmer in a robot frog was not on my Bingo card. And yet it was one of my favorite fights solely because of how pissed off the party gets at him
I'm not even sure why the party gets mad at him, he's got sass and cake!
The way my weird brain processed this part was “our friend is grieving, and here you are to fuck shit up as usual” and honestly I was so into it lol bold of them to put this right after Dyne, one of my favorite segments honestly

I love the Kingdom Hearts references in the intro cutscene, with Elena having the seasalt ice cream and the detonator looking like a Gummi phone.

All the weird creature robot bosses get banging tunes, Scorpion, Crab, Valkyrie, Airbuster and now this goofy frog thing.
If you had told me prior that Palmer of all the characters would get a fire ass slapper of a theme, I would have thought you were screwing with me.

Parts of this song remind me of the battle theme in like a dragon which is like one of my favourite ost tracks

Hearing this song I'm reminded so much of the S7-6 Diversion Mission track from Remake, particularly when it hits _THE_ drop in both songs, I have to presume the same artist credited for S7-6 alongside Nobuo Uematsu, Yoshinori Nakamura, is the composer responsible for this banger and probably other boss theme remixes through Rebirth.
The music syncs at 3:00 and 4:27 goes so hard

Pretty sure Nobuo didn't do this. Nobuo is only supervising the OST arrangement of the original songs and writing the theme songs.
Hazamu, Suzuki, and several others are handling the compositions and arrangements.

That one move where he shoots the blue laser and it wiped out Aerith and Tifa, sometimes both at once really tested my patience, but it's still a somewhat fun boss.
This boss was the first boss on hard mode I fought thanks to Chapter Select - without the benefit of a grind to level 70. My God, never have I hated Palmer so much 😅
I wouldn't be surprised. I just barely got past him on Normal Mode, though that was more because I forgot to include a character that could put buffs on. Cause my goodness, at one point during the fight, I was wondering why my characters were getting so destroyed by certain attacks and then I noticed there was a good amount of debuffs on my team.

The first few secs sounds like battle realms' (Old PC game) OST... I think it was one of Lotus clan theme
A surprisingly intense fight and an excellent introduction to the Shinra Executive fights that I'm sure we'll see more of in this part as well as Part 3 considering the animal themed mech that feels like it was taken from Eggman himself with how it moves and attacks, and the mech's pilot himself.
Of course, I have no ill will towards Sonic. I was just surprised to see a mech sent in to destroy Cloud and his allies that looks and behaves like it came from that series(with a hint of Ratchet & Clank in its theme and attacks and even a hint of Spyro with how Palmer taunts you, though those are probably just me.)

Why is this so much DOOM like in the second half?
This is one of the few tracks in rebirth that stuck out. Overall the new fight themes haven't been as good as remake. Still good ost though!
Remake used up most of the music from the original game, and Rebirth wasted some opportunities to bring in some of the remaining ones, particularly Birth of a God and You Can Hear The Planet Cry. Definitely a step down, but still plenty of great tracks.

They can't seem to do anything with characters in this game outside of making them unbelievable clowns. The track is good but this fight and character doesn't deserve it, and this fight shouldn't be in the first place.
The OST is more about how lethal SHOULD be this machine with a properly trained soldier inside it.
Thats some.. "pike" of danger coming from Palmer that is usually coward. You know this is bullshit when you realize he is inside, but the real threat is the robot he relies on
