"Student cost" is a fun way of putting it, yes. The _spell_ may be called a Mastery, but casting it for cheap means you're not quite there yet.

Wait, what happens if you "Get Lost" your "Nine Lives" and in response gift it to the opponent? Does it fizzle the "Get Lost" that already targeted it?
"A spell or ability's targets are checked for legality when the spell goes onto the stack and when it goes to resolve. Since your opponent controls the permanent once you've donated it, you cannot target it, since it has hexproof. The spell won't resolve if it's the only target."
Similar to combat tricks that give hexproof to protect a creature from e.g. removal. 😊

When future LVD gets involved, you know there was a big facepalm during video editing.
Wouldn't handing over falcon on flip draw an extra card too? I guess by that point it usually doesn't matter, but I can't say no to incidental card advantage.

Fun deck, got mythic with it, but I can't really get into explorer because amalia being the only tier 1 deck is too obnoxious
Would it work to enable full control, target your own Nine Lives with Get Lost, then in response turn Coveted Falcon face up and gifting it to your opponent? It gets around Hexproof when Get Lost is cast but I'm not sure if the game checks for Hexproof again when it resolves.
Wait yeah this wouldn't work, just like you can fizzle a Swords to Plowshares with Tamiyo's Protection, it having Hexproof would mean the Get Lost would fizzle. This comment is now no longer a question but like, a riddle I guess.

Planar Cleansing, Hour of Revelation, Urza's Sylex, River's Rebuke, ...
But they're all quite a bit more expensive to cast.
What happens when the bird is turned up the moment your own Nine Lives is about to leave the battlefield because of the ninth counter? Does the opponent get the trigger and lose?
Indeed, just need to make sure to activate it in response to the Nine Lives exile trigger in the combat damage step.

Would this list be good in bant? Which gives us 4 copies of pick your poison?
Perhaps in a meta with a lot of targets for it, but then it may not be the most reliable wincon if the opponent has multiple enchantments to sacrifice.

Indeed! Unless you want the extra blocker and flipping it can sometimes save it if they didn't have Revolt enabled on Fatal Push or only dealt 3 damage.
@@LegenVD wait,there're no extra blocker here cus they removed it.if you give them the falcon,the removal would still targeting it and they get nothing and you get to salvage the falcon for a draw
