I should say that you don't *have* to play all basic mountains. Throwing in some utility lands is optimal, all basics is just funnier (and helps keep the price down for the budget).
What is the email I can send a deck list to for commander clash?
Yes, there are plenty of lands that will slightly increase the chance of top-decking your wincon in case you mulled to 1.
It should have the cascade land at least, like, if any utility land, it should be that one
This deck probably wouldn't work in commander proper because of 4 player and only one attack per turn. There is a mono black version that uses the commander to tutor for ad nauseam, then do zombie hunt things.
@@aaronscott7467 hmmm maybe you could do something similar deck with Kediss as commander (find a partner of your choosing) and possibly other cards that do similar things to laelia
Sometimes you don't have removal, and you die. Welcome to brawl.
or you do have removal, think that going shields down for a prime time isn't going to kill you, then you die. True story.
I shalk simply play a deck full of 20+ removal/counterspells to make sure this doesn't happen, and - oops! it looks like I've turned yet another commander into a control deck.
Brawl has gotten so worse in the last two years... I used to spend hours every day playing Brawl, now I barely play one hour a week, simply because of how the queue is managed.... as you said, when you can't play a fair game without the broken omniscience or ultimatum bullshit, bringing a janky deck to the queue is for those who enjoy the Defeat pop-up
stuffing your deck full of remova and a few value engines l is by far the strongest deck in brawl, btw. you can shoot down the majority of decks by just removing a couple things.
I remember when The Prismatic Bridge was by far the most popular deck in brawl, and it folded 100% of the time if you had a way to remove the bridge.
The first time I got hit with this combo on brawl I was so confused. It happened so fast I didn't get a chance to read the name of the cards lol
I love how a single video can influence the entire brawl meta
I have seen this deck so many times today since watching this video but never before 😂
@@Klingles I only saw it once and I accidentally left up swords so i didnt even know what I avoided until now 😂
I play very little and faced this deck 3 times yesterday, didn't see the video until now lol
I mean to be fair 99% of this deck is standard so its a 1 card craft for most
Yeah, I now just quit the match when I see Laelia. It's not worth it.
Nothing warms my heart more than watching the myth weaver pog player scooping to a creature bigger than theirs
LMAO WELL DESERVED
his name was literally "i win or i report you " :D
I enjoyed it so much that I also went and built the deck and now I'm smashing those poq players.
@ectopicEye knowing this makes it even better that saffron olive heartily chuckled his way through that match. "What's opponent doing over there, idk some alchemy stuff"
lmao
My. Favorite way to beat Poq decks is elfball. Far too many Poq players are light on removal and Marwyn snowballs so much harder than Poq
Love that cascade and discover are continuing to be fair and balanced mechanics
16:00 "I'm not going to read that Alchemy card... Instead, we're just going to kill our opponent."
This line spoke to my soul
Alchemy was the worst thing that could have happened to magic arena. Standard and Explorer are the only ways I enjoy Arena now.
@@fuzzyturtlez8994 Eh. Poq's a perfectly fair card.
I am very excited to play this in about two months once everyones forgotten about it
Have people forgotten about it yet?
"Hopefully our oppenent will play his commander... and his reward for that will be SWIFT AND IMMEDIATE DEATH" I laughed so hard 😂
I've seen this deck 3 times today. Got me the first time. The next two I held removal until after etali's favor was on the battlefield. Havent lost since
“They’re just tacoing aggressively” 😂😂😂😂
Where's that emote from? I've never seen it before.
@@Reelionit was from Zendikar Rising
Hate people who waste time like that, psychotic behavior
@@Stopbeingcringe3 Queuing with a coinflip deck like this Laelia deck also wastes time to the other player.
@@Igor369So what? It’s a game sometimes it happens just scoop and that’s it
This entire deck is the ultimate, most realised, textbook goddamn definition of "Glass Cannon". I love it.
and how do you make glass? that's right! fire and rocks!
Time to pick out 94 unique art mountains 😂
If you make this in paper, the Unfinity space mountains are actually pretty cool looking.
Why wouldn't we play the Red Discover Cave?
if you're playing this on arena, it's probably smart to run that, the gate that lets you seek a nonland card, and maybe even some other non-basics like cavern or plaza of heroes
94 mountains makes for a funny title lol
because we're stupid AF
Chimil, and Caldera Breaker?
Cavern is another good one, can also play some expensive cycling cards.
Hey. That’s my deck. :3
Posted it a few weeks ago on Reddit. And now I regularly run into them. XD I love it. :‘D
I'm glad you explained the deck while showing off the combo.
Loved that editing
Upgrades to this: Hidden Volcano as a 6th discover, Fast//Furious and hearth elemental are probably a better 1 card hand than mountain, and they don't mess with the discover. Apart from that, i think lands with abilities and cycling cards with mana value above 5 could help a bit, but not much.
Where in the world do you find these Brawl players that don't run any removal? If I were to take this deck into the brawl queue I'd never be allowed to have a creature on the field EVER.
Yup. I think they dont show those matches because they wouldnt be fun to watch.
For real. I love brawl but I hate that every deck is 95% removal spells and a few cards for the theme.
@@christopheranderson8311blame that on the critical mass of combo pieces that snowball and win the game if you don't deal with them quickly.
@@christopheranderson8311it's is legitimate to be either very aggro/combo or run lots of removal/counters since basically 4 out of 5 commander are kill on sight ones
Well, I can't complain since I'm the one running black based brawl Deck 🤷🏻♂️
Finally got my expected Vlade Divac shoutout in a Goldfish video
Especially with a high variance (jank, sorry lol) deck like this, I always just go for the win. You give them the opportunity to draw into an answer by waiting. They have it or they don't, you got one shot. One opportunity. Lose yourself! LOL
I've been playing Brawl today and have seen this deck so many times with so many players spamming GG. The goldfish fanbase might be a bit toxic
I just calculated the odds of hitting at least one of the five cards in your starting hand with a possible Mulligan to one:
In 83.54% of the games you start out with at least one of the cards in your hand, so your 75% winrate with one opponent having interaction checks out.
Also, if you don't hit any of the cards and Mulligan to one, you have a chance of about 50% to hit one in the next 12 cards.
This would be an AMAZING two headed giant deck. This one wins and the other one just 100% supports it
This made me laugh. I really needed it my day is horrible.
Hoping your day gets better!
Love it! Very quick, easy wins if you don't have time to play something more involved for dailies. While I get that the video was going for the draw of "only basic lands", a few fairly budget lands really help out the combo and don't interfere with it at all:
*Hidden Volcano (C) - expensive, but discover on a land
*Gate to Tumbledown (U) - seeks a nonland card
Other lands that have some good use but not quite as direct as the above:
*Desert of the Fervent and Forgotten Cave (C) - both have cycling in monored
*Forsaken Crossroads (R), The Grey Havens (U) and Zhalfirin Void (U) - ETB scry on a land legal for monored
*Geier Reach Santirium (R) - more draw for monored
*Plaza of Heroes (R) - protection for Laelia if you're waiting to draw a combo piece
*Radiant Fountain (C) - little bit of lifegain while you wait
*Sunken Citadel (R) - works well if you end up needing to use Volcano or Tumbledown to get things going
The biggest issue with the Tumbledown and Volcano lines is that they both effectively require 5/6 mana in order to seek/discover, meaning you have to survive long enough to pull it off. Not impossible, especially at the tier of brawl that Laelia is in, but will be tricky against some decks.
The cave that makes your creatures immune to counterspells would also be decent
If you cast Throes of Chaos, all the exiled cards go back in the deck, so Laelia can be almost a 200/00 (I just did this & got her to 175/175).
The stack clearing sounds so much like the frederator logo, I love it
I've faced this deck eight times today and won every time. Once you know what they're doing you just have to be willing to mulligan a few times yourself to find a single early interactive spell.
Yeah, it's actually very easy to beat if you are expecting it.
SETH!! Hahaha I built this deck right after you put out the video and it does surprisingly well and is soooo janky which I love lol. Thanks for adding some fun into the arena 😊
"Slimes are sweet, but you know what's sweeter?" That tiny chuckle was absolutely mint.
I'm usually a fan of scooping early if I know I'm dead but I would absolutely stick around to see this deck go off. So hilarious! Good vid.
I changed up the lands, added a few more cascade cards and built/bought this deck within an hour of this video. So goofy and fun. Great way to relax after complex commander games. Thanks Seth for the inspiration.
I've been running this for a few weeks now and it still feels super sweet when you pull it off
Vlade Divac catchin strays on a random budget magic video haha. Not something I was expecting in 2024. Don't tell Crim!
It's crazy I think I mentioned playing the deck a month ago, something about Laelia is hilarious with Discover. I'm glad its gonna spread like wildfire now lmao. Great games!
Literally lost to this 20 minutes ago, now I know what I need to build
Now I want you to do a Zombie Hunt in 2024 video!
I used to play a game called Eternal Card Game (designed by LSV and Patrick Chapin) and the mulligan for that system guaranteed between 2 and 5 lands and spells in each hand. There was a deck at one point that would include the minimum number of spells allowed which would force the shuffler to give you at least 2 really good cards every game. And there was a card that was functionally "Leyline of Lava Axe". So you would just hope to dome them for half of their life in the first turn then finish it off with a red aggro plan. It was never a very competitive deck, but it reminds me a lot of this.
I've been playing this for a while and it's great fun
This perfectly captures why I find commander and brawl unappealing. Glad for you folks who enjoy them.
Putting a lot of utility lands in could make it more consistent. Arch of Orazca, Blast Zone, Branch of Vitu-Ghazi, Crawling Barrens, Den of the Bugbear, Dwarven Mine, Faceless Haven (with Snow Basics), Gate to Tumbledown, Geier Reach Sanitarium, Hidden Volcano, Labyrinth of Skophos, Mishra's Foundry, Mobilized District, Mutavault and Sokenzan, Crucible of Defiance all slot in without disrupting the discover combo but give extra card draw, attackers, ways to find cards to cast, etc
Oh great, I cant wait to run into this deck for the next week lol
I've been experimenting with a laelia domain control deck for a while and it's quite fun and successful. I run a lot of 4-6 mana board sweeps, some cards to ramp up my lands, some tutors, some deck/hand exile cards, plenty of discover, some plainswalkers, and about 125 lands. Deck is maxed out for arena at 250 cards.
There are some fun utility lands that help with decks like this like sozakan, mishras foundry, and especially the red discover land
On mulligan to specific card decks, i made an old stickfingers deck that wanted any reanimation spell. Old stickfingers can always get cultivator colossus, and you can just put a small arbitrary number of fun and probably mana heavy and recursive powerfull cards. The nice thing is that it doesn't need the ginourmous cultivator colossus it produces to survive, since it just ramps 30 lands and redraws your hand. If it's not exiled you can prbably do it again too. It was pretty fun, and when i made it the cheapest reanimate spell in brawl was 5 mana
Thanks, I really didn't need people trying to play this without knowing when they are cooked... I've seen a few Laelia recently, and the most recent one mulligan to 1, didn't seem to grasp Overwhelming Splendor was enough to neuter the entire deck, and even wanted to play a few turns with Ethereal Absolution in play as well.
I've been playing this deck as I've been getting back into arena. Even though it is an all or none style deck, I'm currently 8-3 with it. It is hilarious. The mirror match comes down to who goes first and has a discover spell in hand. I'm grinding packs with this deck, it is great
Seeing the rapid counter accumulation with the fast sound effect made me laugh like a fool every single time.
I just built this, I feel awful. As someone who just started playing Arena, this feels like an excellent way to just make sure you're hitting your daily's without investing too many wildcards, but damn it feels bad to steamroll people who are just trying to actually play Magic.
Welp, thanks for showing me the deck I will be playing against for the next few weeks
I think something else thats helping this deck right now is people not understanding the interaction between it and cascade when they just read the card, ecause it says 1 or more on the card they think a cascade spell is only 1 counter bgecause you exile multiple cards at the same time, not realising that every card is a seperate trigger jsut because cascade requires you to check after every card is exiled.
some of those opponents probably saw you only had 1 or 2 cards in hand and thought weell no matter what they cast it cant get more than a couple of counters so it will be fine to not leave up removal, you only have to see this interaction once to learn
Thats crazy, I watch you all the time and was just googling Laelia decks and you just dropped this! good taste
This was so silly. Thanks for the matches!
Both times I've come across this deck I had removal for Laelia before it popped off. Very funny to see them concede once their combo doesn't work.
99% of games Seth loses are because he says "I'm afraid to go for it" and loses specifically because he didn't.
You can definitely add more to this
11:37 you should ask Crim If he remembers. Especially his tenure as the GM of kings
This deck can also play spells with a mana value of 5 and up. The build I put together after getting memed on about a week ago has a ton of cyclers and cards like Hearth Elemental, Fast//Furious, etc. that technically have a huge MV but can be cast for cheaper that all dig for discover/cascade hits. Hidden Volcano is also a huge one in the manabase!
I saw this deck for the first time earlier tonight and I had looked away when they comboed out and couldn't for the life of me reverse engineer how she had gotten so huge until a couple minutes of looking the board over after losing lol. Immediately went and bought packs until I got a rare wild card so I could make this for myself
Might build this in paper. Seems pretty budget.
While the odds won't be perfect - its roughly a 31% chance you'd start with at least 1 of the 5 cards in your starting hand before you muligan. Math on a winnable hand gets weirder once you get past the starting hand due to branching conditions, so for simplicity i'll just be sticking to the opening ones.
Muligan math also gets weird due to the same basis behind drawing getting weird once you get below 6, so for that same reason i'll just be sticking to the keep 7 and keep 6 for this.
With the mull to 6, the odds of seeing at least 1 of the 5 shoot up to 51%
arena was extremely kind to you. I have a codie deck, and always cast it on turn 2 (with dorks), but EVERY opponent has removal to kill it before I can untap on turn 3.
I've been doing this since Caves of Ixalan came out. Im glad that the deck got this publicity, but I'm scared to log back on
That was hilarious Seth.
I Been Encountering A Few Laelia Decks And I Have Started To Make Sure I Have Some Type Of Removal/Counter/Can't Attack Card In My Hand When I Go Against Them. Or Disenchant And 1 Blocker.
I just tried this deck, my first opponent cast Gyruda turn 3 and milled my etali's favor. I stuck with it and managed to win by discovering into daring discovery and stopping his blocks.
"But what if someone has removal in commander?"
A bold assumption people run removal in commander as well
This may be the most entertaining jank deck I have ever seen
Absolutely remember Vlade Divac. What a random (but welcome) callback.
Vlade Divac such an old reference, he was a great basketball player (one of if not the best around 1997) and from my country too. Won a bunch of medals while playing nationally and for the NBA as well.
Man I envy these matchups. Whenever I play historic brawl, I get nothing but Ragavan and Rusko.
My 90+ land deck is Esika, God of the Tree. Except its really a planar bridge deck. The only card in the deck bridge can find is Cultivator Colossus. The remaining non-land slots are Banefire and ways to protect the Colossus and ourselves until we win.
I am impressed Seth, wtg!
this reminds me of a commander deck I played again with the commanders the war doctor and Ryan Sinclair. the deck will run only land and when ryan exiles to find the nonland that is not there it will put a time counter on the war doctor allowing to kill a player as soon as it attacks.
Had a guy molly whap me with this deck. Had to try it out. So much fun.
Yay love the meme decks!
Commander does have a lot more cascade/discover cards; but on the flip side, you have three opponents, so the chance of someone having removal is higher, and you can only kill one of them per turn, so even after possibly surprise-killing the first one, Laelia needs to survive a collective three full turns from your opponents.
You would just die on your next draw step.
@@FoxoqNah; all the extra cards exiled by Cascade or Discover get put back on the bottom of the library; they don't stay in exile. It would be a VERY different mechanic in practice if they did.
I need to build this IRL just to get a good laugh with the bois
Help me achieve this as efficiently as possible (all and any suggestions are welcome)
Came across this while playing my Yarok deck, killed the combo with Kenrith's transformation, so they tried the beat down plan with a 4/4 deer until i cast mindflayer and stole her, they scooped after
You can do (something like) this in regular EDH via running war doctor as commander with Ryan Sinclair, with all basics except for a lightning greaves.
this is just a better version of the old Ashling meme commander deck lol
After making this deck and going to test it, very first opponent had the exact same one.
I have a 94 land deck in edh that treasure hunts into Jadzi for the backside to put all your lands into play with mazes end, thespian stage dark depths, and is ran by kenrith partnered with zirda so you can just do Kenrith beats if all else fails
So maybe I missed something but I thought if a card read "one or more" for a trigger it would only trigger once. What's allowing it to bypass that rule?
I just put this together for fast easy Dailies. Thanks!
I built a very similar deck with the war doctor comander, and had ryan as the companion and only boots as the only card in the deck so turn 3 ryan, turn 4 war doctor then he gets a ton of counters and you equip boots to him and turn 5 kill an opponent.
You can maybe trick the hand smoother into giving you better hands by adding a few cards with MV > whatever your highest discover value is. Currently your land percentage is so high that given two hands, one with 6 lands and a spell and one with 7 lands, the smoother will choose the 7 land hand because 100% lands is closer to your deck's composition than 85.7% lands. Also, the red discover cave is a no-brainer that the deck should be playing.
Also, also, like your last Laelia meme deck, there may be non-meme applications of this interaction. Laelia will be legal in Modern as of MH3 and may be playable in Rhinos decks there if a baseline okay beater of a 3-drop that becomes roughly a 20/20 when you do your thing is good. She may also be interesting in Rhino decks in Historic (Rhinos will not be playable in Timeless unless they add the good cascade cards), though she creates a risk for every Cascade/Discover card in the format with the exception of Bloodbraid Marauder (or Scalesoul Gnome hitting for less than 3 or triggering Pantlaza with a small butt, highish MV dino, most likely a Faceless Agent or deliberately not taking the discover until the eggs come down off a Palani's Hatcher) missing the Rhinos.
This could do well with some high-costed spells as to no interfere with the cascading
This is my style of deck... I want to try this out...
Came for the magic. Stayed for the Vlade Divac talk.
Dude, Caldera Breaker would be hilarious here
I think it's a goofy idea, but I'd rather see that in an Against the Odds list.
Something like four of every cascade spell plus four of laelia.
I think that would be much more interesting because it seems much more reasonable.
You can play Giant plus Stomp, the new Adventure enchantment in red. Though I can't quite recall if it's removal and what other removal in mono red or maybe RB can be found to make Laelia actually busted in Magic.
11:10 Seth managing to throw away a game even with the 94 mountains deck.
Gotta have at least some nonland cards, but have it to be so you either hit off the discover and discover again, or are more than 3 so etalis favor hits
Someone killed me with this the other day. I was mostly just impressed
Lost to this on turn four, three times before I this video. Thanks Seth 😑
Just had a fun match with this deck against a Windgrace deck on the draw.
Turn one they played Riveteer's Outlook
Turn two they played Elvish Reclaimer.
Turn three they went "Good Game" and played Stone Rain.
Turn four they played Rubble Reading.
Turn five they played Windgrace.
Turn five I played Laelia.
Turn six played Throes of Chaos and they conscede after Etali's Favor hit the board.
I love that someone who played land destruction and got off to a fairly reasonable start had to just give up.
Of course, right after that match I run into someone who hit me with Cyclonic Rift after a turn 4 Etali's Favor, which the deck can't recover from (no way to trample through).
I have a deck like this for commander, and yes, any interaction definitely hurts, buts it's really fun to play still
My deck is original ezuri, with treasure hunt and ayula's influence. Just make a bunch of bears and get exp counters
if you wanna do this in commander proper I would abuse the same thing Temur Rhinos does and use Split cards and delve cards to have other playable spells.
Ended up playing against this deck today! And can attest to the fact that it loses to any and all interaction. Was playing a self mill deck, cut down won me the game.
Oh I faced this deck yesterday. I turned Laelia into a 1/1 skeleton at flash speed before she attacked. I didn't realize it would be this nasty.
