- From the estate of Robert Symmonds (Denver Symphony) A very fine example of a vintage Bach Stradivarius. Large bore model 25 in lacquer. This horn has a wonderful sound quality to it. Mr symmonds Bb work horse for many many years. Mechanichs are excellent with great intonation and fast valves. Two piece valve section and a Corp. 25 bell. It is the real deal. No Case No Mpc. Scott Belck''s book is "Modern Flexibilities for Brass". Scott was my lesson teacher back 1994-1995. He's a hell of a player and an awesome person. Highly recommend his book!

Sounding great Mr.Dillard! I have a question about the Bach 25 Large bore horns. I played a 37 for many years and I’m doing a lot more commercial work now and had someone recommend I tried out a 43 and one of these 25 large bores, as I felt my 37 closing up in the upper register. I tried out a 43* and it opened everything right up and felt better. Wondering if you thought the 25 large bore may also be a good fit. I’ve heard some people describe the 37 to be a little tight in the upper register and recommend a 43 for all around use. I’m interested in the 25 because after doing a lot of research, I hear Its a great cross over horn that maintains that 37 sound in the middle register but opens up in the upper register, (where a 37 may close down) wondering what your opinion was as far as a 37 possibly closing down in the upper register? (I’m referring to things around a G above high C. My 37 just closes of above a high F, its had an alignment and everything.). I’ve tried bigger bells and while it does help, I start to close down myself after about an hour. That’s why I’m interested in something a little more compact, without choking off the upper register. Wondering what your opinion was for a 25 or 43, vs. a 37 for all around use.
I watch your videos all the time and think you sound just awesome! I know this horn is sold but if I see another I may give it a go!
I know this is 3 months late, and I'm not Steve, but I'd say give the 25L a try. I played one for years. They are more focused than a 37, so the sound is dense, and core heavy, but still has a distinct "ring" in the sound. The upper register is more open because the slots feel a bit roomier. I did notice that the horn takes a little more to speak at soft dynamics and therefore isn't as crisp as the 37. The 43 is just a tad broader, less compact 37 that can be pushed a little brighter. They can all be used for all around use, and with proper balance with mouthpieces, they can do anything.

Great horns: but the most important is the MOUTHPIECE choice to every player.THAT Why Steve almost Never Shows his mouthpiece directly in the videos...,
Guys find the right mouthpiece then, choose a horn. Dizzy Gillespie said he could relly on any Trumpet but not on any mouthpiece... You see. get the Right Seize then choose your pants. Most of the time people do it the other way. Mr Steve should offer more videos on his mouthpiece sales because he always sounds great on all the horns he sells .
