Which is good, they get a star on their report for that, but they need to really evaluate where they are going with this thing. This is a ?playable? Alpha of a concept and I guess we shall see where things go for them in the future. I do really hope they take a deep dive into what they have and learn from this project, using what they have as placeholders then smooth it into fully implemented original works for the actual release.

But dont spit in the face of devs when they improve, spit in the face of marketing(yes I get it they marketed it themselves, but look at cyberpunk how much of that was advertisement vs dev)
Well there's no storyline to the game. And the wild boars keep annoying you everywhere outside of the City. And the city should not be perched way up on a 1000 metre high vertical wall. That's a design error. No turn or time based system to tell the boars when to appear and when to attack. So they just all attack soon as you step into their zone and come within their cone range.. It would be interesting if the boars had a huge cone range, then all the boars in Dreamworld all home in on you at once. Of course that would start to cause frame rate issues if too many of them come in at once. Been thinking of replacing my dialog system with Snowfall Story Writer Plugin since my current system don't support dialog choices (hasn't been coded). But Snowfall does. Well they are progressing much further than I am in their Dreamworld Game. But as for my game, I need someone to tell me how to handle all of the data to my game. Is it possible for Unreal Engine through using alot of data structs to store up to 5000+ variables for a dialog-driven storyline progressive choice and consequences type game?. Since my game is over different planets. Instead of just one single map as what you see currently in Dreamworld as I don't see any other level maps to dreamworld than just that one map. But I'm told that my type of game is possible to do in Unreal Engine by some other devs but I need to have a good foundation laid down first to handle all of the data. So after having whiteboxed just a couple of my levels to see what the game would turn out like in unreal engine in 3d form on my germanslice you tube channel where i put the blackhell map up online how do we build that foundation. Or is that too much data for the save game object to handle? Or do I have to turn all those variables into data struct arrays so i can keep track of all the data going on in every world i travel to. When it comes how to laying down the foundation to handle all the game data over multiple worlds that I am not entirely sure and only taking a guess. But it looks like Dreamworld has made some progress.

@Failed Society Literally everyone (no meme) I've talked to that has played Rimworld says something to that effect, makes me really curious to see for myself.
There can't really be a "Dreamworld redemption arc" unless it actually becomes what was promised on the Kickstarter. A slightly passable crafting game isn't what they promised. What they promised was an impossible mish-mash of genres where you can make anything you want.
They basically promised Second Life, but in an open world with an overarching game (including crafting, gathering etc.) instead of instanced 'sims' with limited gameplay. If players will ever be able to create their own games within DW, it will be a complete mess in every way, just like their login tokens, chat showing part of the UID and the client side memory manipulation.
@@basedfrosti Right. But that still doesn't change the fact that this isn't what was promised, and therefore it's not a "redemption arc" for them to make an asset store survival game.

Thank you, I was thinking the same thing when I heard him say "Dreamworld redemption arc". Yes, I'm aware the Kickstarter's promises were impossible, but that doesn't matter. It would take years to even develop a Global MMO playable world. But by skirting the game all along the edges of the cliff of dissapointed expectations was dangerous, and reckless and just incredibly risky. One slip is all it takes to go over the edge. Oh and those Wild Boars will drive you nuts before long. I still find it hard to believe people handed them them 2 million for making this game.

Though I'm happy to see improvements, these updates feel absolutely insignificant when considering what the final game is supposed to be, at this speed, it will be released by Zach's grandchildren...if by some miracle he manages to get married.
Definitely, the reduction in assets could also be down to one of the various plugins for UE4 that culls anything not actually being used from your package when you bake it. There's so many little things they could have done that would improve it though that they might have learned by going through Epic's tutorials by now.
I think we're all hoping this turns into a No Man's Sky sort of situation, where the devs royally bungled the development and launch but turn it around and make a genuinely good game. I'll start giving them the benefit of the doubt (of good intent) if 1 of them picks up a 3d modelling software and starts pumping out some actually self made assets. Assets left right center but it works, everyone knows and no one complains. But here the huge disconnect in literally EVERYTHING bugs me so much that it really seems as if they didn't care AT ALL. Throw some stuff together, no thought behind one of the more important (if not the most important) parts of your game. Your world. It would look 20x better if it would be filled with low-poly assets created by an even obvious beginner that is SERIOUS ABOUT LEARNING than what they currently have. As long as there would be a cohesive style! Until they start doing something along the lines of that and not just buying and adding new assets and bugfixing by checking some boxes on or off I'll still believe this entire 'game' is build with the ill intent of getting quick cash. And that the only reason they are still 'working' on it is that they are avoiding potential lawsuits the moment they will abandon it. Anyway, love that you are still following this and making videos on it! Don't let people get away with stuff like this. I've been getting into game-dev myself recently(by no means an expert) and looking back at this project now with a growing understanding on the subject I'm beyond shocked that these people were able to cash out with such a product carrying no consequences... So many amazingly creative projects never see the light of day while there great developers and artists behind it, yet something like this gets gobbled up and put on a pedestal on Kickstarter. I think it would be cool if they made the game much more cheaper, like $1 to $5. And the community would work on making the game. Like the devs do the stuff they have been doing, but players check the codes, give advice on how to fix things, maybe make assets or coding for things to add to the game, make music. And then they get stuff in game. And maybe a building in the city which has statues or some sort of plaque for players and what they helped with.
You're single-handedly keeping them from running with the money, Callum. Don't be coy, bashful, or humble; your attentions are forcing them to always remember... They're known now, and unless they make a game that functions as a game, they're liable in civil court. That is your whole game, and it's endlessly amusing knowing how much these idiots probably hate you for keeping them more honest than they've ever been before.
I wanted nothing more, ever, for the people who bought dreamworld to get the game they deserve. Nothing more. And I think you have the same goal. We make fun of them but it's for the greater good of those players that have invested so much, emotionally and monetary, in the game and love and care about it more than the developers themselves.
Nice to see that you are not only trashing them. I mean you fixed one of their biggest security mistakes for them and explain the bugs to them you should get paid by them😂😂😂
6GB for this? How much unused crap do they have in the project folders? My game that has about the same number of content in it - to my defense my game not even in alpha - and my game packaged was like 700MB. Yes my game has smaller world but the package is still about 10x smaller in size. Also it would seem they found about UE4 audio groups and Sound Attenuation which would explain why the sounds are normalized and it sounds actually good.
why in the world are they using 4k texured materials in that style of game. They could easily go down to 1k and nothing would look different except the file size would be 1/16th. Now granted, optimization is something you do late in development, but you should start out with at least a reasonable approximation of where your final game will be.
I wouldn't call removing the ability to turn with A & D (AKA the freelook FPS supremacist's left and right arrow keys) an improvement. Letting people **smoothly** do it either way would be better. Although I have no plans to play this mess anyway, so...
i would really enjoy a livestream of urs with dreamworld , so we can see a continuous gameplay experience instead of just bits here and there. However, i do not agree with a continuous update events from developers for players to see weekly. They have to shut down and get working on the game core just like hello games did with noman's sky and it succeeded (eventually).. If nomansky was following the dreamworld's tactic and kept releasing events and updates to lure people into it they would have failed 100%.
There's obviously no way they'll ever be able to live up to the image they tried to sell people, but how god damn wild would it be if they manage to salvage a mediocre game out of this mess? Like I would be seriously impressed.
you're gonna bully them into making a passable game
Can I give this multiple likes? 😂😂😂

Is the world ending or something? Did hell finally freeze over? Can't believe they made some actual progress lmao
Callum is there only user !
👍 😆
they mighy not admit it but if the game ever does get enjoyable to play i whole heartily think its because of you pushing them to do better
I wanted nothing more, ever, for the people who bought dreamworld to get the game they deserve. Nothing more. And I think you have the same goal. We make fun of them but it's for the greater good of those players that have invested so much, emotionally and monetary, in the game and love and care about it more than the developers themselves.
don't worry, we are all your friends
Nice to see that you are not only trashing them. I mean you fixed one of their biggest security mistakes for them and explain the bugs to them you should get paid by them😂😂😂
Deer runs like a cheetah
Congrats zack in many ways your game is one better then new world with all exploits. Never thought I would say that phrase
I mean, you gotta leave it to them: So far they haven't just taken the cash and made a run for it.
Idk who could enjoy this but I guess to each their own. I mean dream world as a game, highly enjoy the vids though.
is this ai callum? or normal callum?
Dreamworld : the next no man sky ? Lol 😹
does this game have a point yet though? or do you just run around?
wow my ears
I have the impression that not even them know what they fixed to make the game smooth.
why in the world are they using 4k texured materials in that style of game. They could easily go down to 1k and nothing would look different except the file size would be 1/16th. Now granted, optimization is something you do late in development, but you should start out with at least a reasonable approximation of where your final game will be.
Whoever made the game assets don't know what they're doing.
See this is the point in development that they should have started marketing and going for funding. But yea good on them game dev is hard so
I'm genuinely impressed how visually inconsistent this game is
I wouldn't call removing the ability to turn with A & D (AKA the freelook FPS supremacist's left and right arrow keys) an improvement.
Yeah I still wouldn't go anywhere near it XD
i have alot of respect for you, its easy to criticize
I'm impressed. I'm almost starting to love you
The true story is that they are just start to learn the engine how it works and what they can do with these tools......LOL.....
There's obviously no way they'll ever be able to live up to the image they tried to sell people, but how god damn wild would it be if they manage to salvage a mediocre game out of this mess? Like I would be seriously impressed.
