I’d like to think it is a progression beyond what was demonstrated as well as the basic squat push-up without having to have a wall. There are lots of regressions and progressions into pike push-ups, pikes with feet on wall or preferrably a step and then a box and eventually a handstand push-up and for a few scorpion push-ups.

Great movement. As you mention about the burpee, push-ups and planks see many people trying to maintain a “flat back”, which after a very short while turns into that “sag”. This movement here can help to reinforce the fact that there should be a little bit of an elevated hip position, as opposed to trying to maintain a level position.
