Jim Morrison, Robbie Robertson and Rick Danko, my favorite rock stars, all so good looking and lot's of charisma. As for the songwriting and Jim certainly wrote some incredible lyrics.

What a deserving person of the appreciation of the city of Toronto; the film about the Band and his contribution.
A great musician, songwriter and just a wonderful human being.
Proud son of the Mohawk nation (!) and of Canada 🇨🇦 and great "egomaniac" (!)
Thank you Robbie your music has touched my heart and soul. You are a gift to the world 🌎.
On to the next adventure ✨️ 🕉
    The music 🎶 lives forever.

What happens when there no one is left in the room to call bullshit. Of course, the real hero of the story-Garth Hudson-couldn’t be bothered with such trifling.

The film was made from Robbie's perspective so I had no problem with the title. I read that Levon Helm was bitter about the writing credits that Robbie had for the Band's recordings but I wonder why he didn't raise them at the time they were making the albums. As the film pointed out Robbie's songs became increasingly dominant in the latter years of the group. Personally, I love the Band so I give them all credit but I'm glad that Robbie is around to tell their story from his own perspective.

Yes. Sadly, I have wondered if alcoholic induced dementia fuelled some of Levon’s recollection and bitterness.

According to Robbie's book, Levon's personality changed when he started to do heroin.

I read Barney Hoskyns biograhpy of The Band, and just recently Joe Forno Jr's book "Levon's Man". Forno managed the Band from mid eighties until 1994. Levon spend money recklessly, he build an elaborate house in Woodstock, it burned in 1991. He had insurance for $750.000 on it, however as I can make out he declared bankruptcy after the fire, seemed like he overbuild. He never paid Forno a good sum of money that Forno had forwarded. Then he blames Robbie for his problems years later.

They were all true voices. They all contributed something, Robbie wrote the songs, Richard, Levon and my personal favorite Rick Danko all are amazing singers. Robbie was great on guitar and Garth a genius on several instruments.

Robbie was tarnished as ripping the others off. They all chipped in ideas for his songs but we’re not given writing credit. Probably while the money was coming in Levon wasn’t worried. He enjoyed his money and fame. Then suddenly that started to wane and they realised Robbie was making a lot of money. But then they were on the drugs and drink and Robbie was working his arse off. Always found his storytelling a little contrived. But the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. They all made plenty of money compared to the average working person and some of them pissed it against the wall then started griping about it. Great band and will be forever remembered. Sad that so many died too young and that they fell out.

Nonsense. Manual wrote 1/2 of the first record and was credited accordingly. He stopped due to his addictions.
I loved Helm but he wasn’t a songwriter.

I am afraid my view of Robbie has been tainted by Levon Helm’s bio This Wheel’s on Fire, in the sense that he drew The Band’s fortune and fame towards himself. Great songwriter of course.

Robbie was not perfect, I still count him among one of my favorite musicians though. Totally love Rick Danko. However, (who is), but I don't blame him for wanting to stop going on the road. Barney Hoskings in his book says Robbie was exhausted from being the caretaker of most of The Band (sans Garth) writing songs etc. Also after reading his book, and his describtion of his abusive stepfather, no wonder he was weary of all the excessive drug and alochol abuse. Not that he didn't do drugs, but music always came first with him.@@hansout2831

Sorry this guy wrote some great tunes - some pretty good ones - but was an above average guitarist - at best. Some nights the dude was just, to be kind, off. Far more "off" than a professional or "great" guitarist should ever be.

If you look at the entire picture the rest of the Band were much more successful after Robbie left. Robbie never made a hit record or toured extensively like the others. Levon held the Ramble almost to the day he died. You want to see real talent look up Levon Helm at the Newport Festival here on RUclips. He also Mike Campbell tour it up and did vintage Band songs almost as good or better than the originals. Robbie and his fanboy Martin Scorsese made me sick to my stomach! Sorry Martin great film maker but blows his wad around rock royalty like a 16 year old groupie!

Robertson wrote film scores and made the occasional record. He was very successful.

    • @hannejeppesen1809
      @hannejeppesen1809 Месяц назад

The 4 others continued to tour in the eighties, and they were good. However, no one was writing songs, nor did they play big venues. The Band was successful from the late sixties until The Last Waltz. Robbie didn't want to tour anymore, by the time he was in his almost mid thirties he had touring since he was sixteen. By the time of The Last Waltz he was married and had 3 small children, he wanted to spend more time with his family, Robbie has lot's of fans. Certainly all The Band members were very talented, but no one wrote song after song. only Robbie. Rolling Stone name him 59 best guitarist of 100 I think. Obviously he is not your cup of tea, we all have different taste, but Robbie was definitely a great guitar player. Have you watched Robbie and Eric Clapton from The Last Waltz, they are both great.
