  • A replay of the 10-14-2020 Topherspin Meteorites weekly hangout focused on Iron meteorites. You can join us live any week. The details are below. How about subscribing and telling a friend about us?
At 1hr:45min Daniel Sheikh (of FSU) joins the conversation with details about the newly classified Carbonaceous Chondrite named Tarda. It was published to the MetBull just moments earlier. Tarda is the new witnessed C2-ung fall from 8-25-20 near Errachidia, Morocco. This one is rich with Kamacite and shows signs of both the CI and CY groups. Teams of meteoricists partnered to get this one understood enough to publish, including Daniel. The studying will continue.
    Group Discussion Topics:
    • Iron meteorite chemistry, Kamacite & Taenite descriptions, Classes, Grain boundaries
    • Iron meteorite structure: Neuman Lines, Widmidstatten Patterns, Grain / Crystal sizes, Kamacite bandwidth, Hexahedrites, Octahedrites, and Ataxites
    • Silicated Irons as a transitional class
    • Iron protection discussion: lacquer choice and application, Paleo Bond? Candle wax?
    • Rare Earth magnet use and safety
    • Meteorite hunt!! Franconia Arizona October 24-26th 2020,

    Hi Topher,
thank you so much for another educational and amazing video. Your irons are great guys maybe I have to think about to collect more of them 😅. The explanation of the oxygen isotopes of the fantastic new Tarda meteorite is really a highlight at the end of the hangout 😃👍👍👍 Only one word: AMAZING
    Best wishes from Germany ☄️

Thanks so much Marco! The group really likes your check ins from Germany! I will have to watch the Oxygen isotope conversation at least one more time to make sure I get it. This one got scientific! (see ya on Facebook) -Topher

I am catching up on a lot of the older videos I haven’t previously watched…. (Before you finally turned me into a meteorite lover!) I really dig the intro to this one. I know it’s longer than you would use for your current videos, but it’s really cool!

That is awesome! I love this opening too. But, people will click away in 7 seconds if not completely into the video. Welcome to the Meteorite Nerdom.

Another great get together, so glad I can watch these when I can't make it. And, frankly Topher, they are getting better every week!
I wanted to comment on the use of neodymium (rare-earth) magnets. TAKE RECOMMENDED PRECAUTIONS for magnets over a certain gauss. I almost crushed a finger with two 1" spherical magnets by not paying attention to what I was doing. Fortunately, I only ended up with a really bad blood-blister on one finger that took a while to heal. PLUS, THEY ARE DANGEROUS TO PACEMAKERS!!! Pat did a great job talking about these on the video, having had quite a bit of experience with these myself, I just wanted to add my two cents.
All that said, they are one of the best tools available to find meteorites from fragments to large pieces. Also as Pat said, the nickel coating does not stand up to field use. There are several sources for these magnets and here is one that does offer rubber and plastic coatings. If you go to Page 2 and Page 3, they even have plastic coated ones with counter sunk screw holes, perfect for the end of that meteorite grabbing walking stick. I wanted to share with with the group since I wasn't able to join. Cheers!

In the description to every single video on my channel, I have a link to a Facebook group where you can load quality pictures and get quality feedback. That is the first step before involving any scientists and their expensive time and lab equipment.

I understand that your time is ultravaluable, way more important than my time. I'm sorry to have wasted your time with this free video. I'm only hoping that your day can be recovered in a productive manner.
If you have anything nice to say you're welcome to come back otherwise please don't waste your time on my channel.

@@TopherspinMeteorites even your response... Too much blah blah blah.. and if you can't tolerate constructive criticism then you should turn off your comments or better yet just get off u tube all together.

Find something way more productive with your day to do than to bother me.
By the way, my response was not too wordy it was just too biting for you to deal with. The intelligent people in the room can use their words like weapons unlike you that can't even spell.
Honestly, you clicked on a 2-hour video and then complain there was too much talking. Did you expect there to be a 2-hour silent video that you were supposed to read along with? You are one weird lonely person.
Make sure you subscribe so you don't miss any more of my long ass videos. Are you still reading this? Blah blah blah, don't you have better things and more important things to do with your day? Go, go away. Go.
