September 2, 2020 Hangout (Meteorite Ephemera theme) summary:
Live check in with Raymond Borges of Spacerocks. He is onsite in Santa Filomena, Brazil meteorite hunting and sharing drone pictures of strewn field that contains houses that were “hammered” by the falling meteorites. His connectivity was sketchy, but that is only the first few mins. If you’d like to buy a piece of this 8-19-20 witnessed fall, contact Raymond @ spacerocks.club but hurry!
Roberto Vargas shows off (literally) with a HUGE hunk of the brand new (8-1-2020) Carbonaceous Indonesian fall!! It is massive at a whopping 33g of the provisionally named Sitahan Barat. And, it is another “hammer stone”!! It went thru the overhang of a house.
Pat Brown shows us his oriented NWA 869. How much does it weight? We all guess. Play along. Pat is a collector and reader of many books scientific, rare, and historic. He shares several with us. We learn about Apollo heat-shields and see his real heat-shield plug. How about his new meteorite for classification, a possibly the 47th largest CV3 individual ever?!
I share my 23g of Vermillion. It is a rare Pallasite from Kansas, USA. Unlike most all Pallasites, it has Pyroxenes rather than Olivines. A new 3g Norton County (witnessed Aubrite) with white creamy fusion crust is added to my personal collection. My wife made a scrapbook of some of the international shipping labels that I have saved. It is coming along wonderfully.
Christian Reha shares a stamp collection that was passed to him in 2006 from his father -from the Czech Republic. The collection shows the history of space exploration from the communist country’s POV.
Ron Metchis has the coolest license plate art, the smallest replica Willamette Meteorite. We spend much time discussing the upcoming “How to build your own back-lit mounted meteorite” video. Inspired by Anne Black of impactika.com in Colorado but made on a budget by you!
Marissa Fanady joins us with an ultra thin 8g slice of NWA 7831 Diogenite. Cameron Smith has Harvey Nininger’s original ‘$’ from his typesetting kit. Bruce Feingold has some rare McDonnell Douglas document, a bid submittal for “next gen” space vehicles for about 10 astronauts in the Gemini days. Blew my mind.
I am Topher Spinnato, owner of Topherspin Meteorites LLC. I am an internationally trusted meteorite importer, collector, and dealer. I am a proud member of the International Meteorite Collector's Association (IMCA #6236) and currently sit on the Board of Directors of the Meteorite Club (worldwide).
