It has taken me awhile to realize it is best not to work with my birds if my energy is off. It ends up making us both frustrated and I learned this from you! So I like that you share the good and the bad even though I'm sure most people couldn't even tell.
I can affirm that it’s not just Clyde who’s a little “slow,” it’s pretty much all cockatiels. They’re all a little stubborn, but it’s part of their charm.
It looks like he got so excited he 'guessed it right' he briefly lost his marbles
I have complete faith in you Jamie, even with shall we say 'slow to grow' Clyde. Sorry your going through a rough patch, hopefully things will get better soon. Thanks for taking us along.

I feel like Jamie is doing a beautiful job with Clyde and I’m not sure what she’s going through personally but all I’m seeing with this bird is progress. In the beginning that cockatiel would bite the fingers and now look at those step ups! 💕Great work! ☮️🕊👍🏻🌻Don’t be getting too down on yourself and keep at the good stuff 💜

Doing the targeting method to learn the spin worked for both of my cockatiels. One cockatiel picked it up immediately, and the other cockatiel is still mastering it. I guess it just depends on the bird!
Sometimes I think cockatiels are smarter than they want us to think. Do they pretend to do something slow to get people to have the tricks and training be easier? But maybe that is just my girl Doodle Bug. Doesn't want to learn more than a spin, but easily learned what the sound of a treat jar being opened or her dish being filled with dinner sounds like really fast.

I trained my cockatiels to spin by using luring. I don’t need the treat anymore. I tell them to spin and they do it. One of my birds decided to use spin as communication. He’ll spin if he wants something and when he has our attention he’ll point to where or what he wants. LOL
That’s so cool. Yeah I’m going to use luring too if I can get her on her t-stand. We have to start with stationing since she doesn’t like to be on her t-stand or play gym-she prefers to be on me, the blinds, or her cage.

I'm loving watching this series with clide. And I think it's important that you share it. We are not always at our best, crazy things happen that we all have to deal with in our personal lives. But it's important that we work through it, even though we are not at our best, it's important to keep working with our birds. We may make mistakes and feel frustrations, but that's how we learn. Clyde is so adorable! He reminds me of my own cockatiel. I've learned that cockatiels have their own pace, and they don't like to be rushed into anything, lol.

I also really want to teach my cockatiel this now lol. My problem is she hates being on her play stand and t-stand and prefers being on me or the blinds. I’ll probably have to start with stationing her on the stand. I also wanted to teach her to do a flip around a perch but that seems a bit harder to train even though she’s very acrobatic and definitely seems to have the capability.
As long as your boned well enough because birds are vulnerable when they turn there back or flip
Also anytime she goes on the t-stand (or if she really doesn’t like it at all and won’t go on it start with being near it) and reward her either more than when she goes on you or give her a higher value treat
@@joebean3615 That’s true I wouldn’t want her to get hurt. Thank you for bringing that up - I’ll have to make sure to do the flips from a perch that’s not a t-stand or play stand so in case she falls she’ll be able to fly somewhere and land safely. As for the spinning, I think she should be okay with that right?

I feel like this video shows possible further evidence that Clyde has some sort of trauma or diminished vision in his left eye. He simply does not react to anything you do on his left side. He is utilizing the spin move in order to see the millet with his right eye.

I interact with all kinds of parrots/parakeets at a sanctuary and have noticed the 'tiels, while cute as a button, are not the brightest.
Oh they're DEFINITELY smart.. They're just stubborn as hell.
I put a single song on my RUclips Playlist and it takes him one session to mimic. Crazy smart...but crazy stubborn

Hii I recently got a white faced cockatiel and I've been trying to train him to step up so I bought some millet spray for training but my cockatiel always runs away and panics whenever I try to offer it to him. Does anyone have any ideas to help?
Edit: somehow my sister managed to get him to eat it lol. He loves it now! But now whenever I bring out millet for his training sessions or some seed he keeps screaming like a baby even while eating. Its really annoying :p
But he will willingly step up on our hands and loves scritches so its not thay bad :)

I’m pretty sure Clyde is kind of blind in the left eye
and his a fast learner he got the concept of spin in one day
I've had my tiels for 3 years and they dont like me😢
So sorry this is long it’s just tips for bonding hope you use some of them 😊
First off thank you so much for keeping them for 3 years! some people would give up in a couple weeks
Try just putting food in her/his cage (I was going to say every time but that might be a lot or tiny amount anyway) not so much that you fill him up on treats
when you make his/her chop leave the cage door open so he can join you and try the food in different shapes and sizes
Don’t push them to be around you and just be calm around them (remember animals mirror our energy/emotions)
Have plenty of places s/he can just chill and hang out around the house that are high up
Good luck some birds can take ages to be friendly and also please don’t put him/her to a rescue because it’s not likely that the person who gets him is going to have the patience for making him a lovely & friendly bird animals (especially birds) are very emotional it’s like if your parents decided they would give to an orphanage and it happened like ten times it’s just not nice, at all
So please keep at it every thing will happen eventually if you make it possible for it too Just bond bond bond
@@joebean3615 I will keep them until the very end as long as I can care for them💗 Even if they will never like me ☹️ also they have lots of places they can sit but they usually just fly a couple rounds around my room and then sit on their aviary. Sometimes they dont want to come out at all!

Cockatiels are basically just cockatoos less likely to murder you because of there size not personality
You can really tell that Clyde's balance is off during the spins with his little clipped tailfeathers 😥
I was just about to say the same thing. He is such a handsome little bird and he will be even more once it grows back. It's such a shame someone did that to him.
One cute trick is to jave him stretch his wings out and say "eagle" so cute.
