Congrats on a GR8 presentation of the nail-biter end. Paige B saying s.t. like one play doesn’t determine the outcome is so true: UConn forced turnovers late. Failing to box-out is another. Caitlin C’s inbounds off Paige B. is an example of another key play. Gabbie Marshall would’ve been bouncing up&down, arms waving, face to face with Caitlin C. if Gabbie been defending. I’ve seen enough “tape” of Gabbie M. defending in bounds plays. Aaliyah E. was moving both feet; perhaps if the left had been set and only if the right away from Gabbie M. was sliding no call would’ve have been made. (Earlier Gabbie M. was leveled when colliding with an essentially stationary Aaliyah E.) And likewise with a little less shoulder lean and less size disparity perhaps there would’ve have been no call. Gabbie M. has made a career slipping past screeners (often larger) to “keep on the hip” of an opponent - “relentless” is how I recall Kate Martin described Gabbie. Gabbie M. is quite quick and cat-like, and, persistent, which, prob was on Aaliyah E’s mind. Just go back and re-watch “The Block” (actually two big D plays - that block and a “pass defended”) near the end of the Iowa v Nebraska BIG 10 Championship Game. As I’ve said before, Aaliyah E made what would’ve been a nice “chip block” on an EDGE rusher …

How come the media doesn’t talk about this? Only about Reese part 2 is the test.
The rules are clear and unambiguous. It was an illegal screen for a number of reasons. To set a legal screen requires that the feet be placed not more than shoulder width apart, Edwards' legs were as wide as she could make them while remaining upright, the screener cannot lean and Edwards' clearly leaned, then she extended her elbow. To not make that call would have been the mistake, regardless of the game clock.
Ok because I saw people arguing in the comments about this being a “clean screen”let me explain it from the person on my team who screens the most with a what she did vs what she should have done 1st her feet were very wide and her right foot had moved If she hadn’t had that wide of a stance and her foot didn’t move maybe the call wouldn’t have happened 2nd her elbows, you can see her elbows out on this play which will definitely be a call. If she had her elbows in there probably wouldn’t have been a call. And yes Gabbie does play into this. She is an amazing defender who knew that if she overreacted the screen she could get the call there and what she did was smart
UCONN coach said there's an illegal screen call you could make on every possession so it must be a strategy used by UCONN. But Edwards shouldn't have made it so blatent.

Gabbie is a total hero and any time she's feeling down she's welcome back here in Iowa City where her money will be no good and everywhere she goes she'll be covered in adulation.
That’s right coach you DO have to get better at not setting illegal screens. You seemed to mean that as some kind of illusion to ref favouritism but in the end your player cheated and was rightly called for it. Play clean and you can complain. Play dirty and you have no moral ground to stand on.

It was a moving foul, and it doesn’t matter one tiny bit WHEN it happened! You got a problem and you’re a UConn fan, be mad at the player who set the illegal screen or the coach who taught them to play that way!
Legal screens require: 1) Screener is set. AE was moving. 2) Feet at shoulder's width, max. AE's feet were sliding from 5'-6' apart. 3) Elbows held in at side. Not. 4) Defender not actively impeded. AE (6'3") leaned into GM (5'9") and sent her 4' sideways. GM's feet landed well outside 3-point arc and she's turned 90* by impact. The screen was illegal 4 ways, obvious, done in front of a ref, and done when it affected play with the ball in a critical moment - 1 point down, seconds to go, with the ball. That's when you try to NOT foul. Fouls are for when you don't have the ball. Some say there were similar illegal screens earlier that weren't called but no one shows any. Even the ones they post from other Iowa games are not like this one. Defenders get past and stay with the ball. The contact AE puts on GM could easily be called a foul even without a screening attempt, though it might pass if away from the ball. This happened where the ball and play was. 18 million were watching. It was going to get called. "The refs should let players play and decide the game". Rules and refs exist precisely because players shouldn't decide outcomes with indiscriminate play. Even rugby has them, even though it's often hard to tell.
@@gemanscombe4985 I think we all agree to the mechanics of the foul, my point is which fouls are called and when. If they called every foul in basketball that took place it would be a completely different game.
Imagine being dumb enough to lose enough money on a game that you would threaten a young lady's life .. or maybe even being that fanatical , or a teammate who lost a lot of endorsement money .. either way , is basketball the only game in the world that you can win or lose on one play .. 🤔 .. I just hope this young lady keeps her chin up , her chest out , keeps going forward and doesn't let the insanity impact her which can be hard , but as she goes on she'll realize it's all just hot air ..

I’m going to guess the following. She celebrates but so does Caitlin Clark and Angel Reece. The real reason is that somehow her ethnicity offended people implicitly. SOME people don’t like when you appear to be hiding in the crowd and don’t openly claim your ethnicity… She gets a lot of attention for her looks and her eyes.. so that bothers some. Sad but it happens a lot..
@@carlstokes9834 yes. Because Iowa broke the rules - by having the country's best player and by winning over the Insiders club. And of course, most of all, by stealing the spotlight. The teams that the WNCAA allowed to monopolize talent, where just a few teams have half of the five star players in an association of 350 teams, they have a fan base that feels entitled to win. They expect to win. Simply put they don't expect competition. They expect to win. Specifically Ucon and South Carolina fans. Their teams are like all-star teams and the fans are expecting them to buzz saw through all of the competition to the championship game. The fact that Iowa was considered an outsider team offends them to no end. There is a huge segment of these expectant fans whom you will never hear losing gracefully. They will have to blame someone. The most pathetic example of this was Dawn Staley who, last year when Iowa beat South carolina, tried to frame Iowa's coach Bluder as racist herself. She tried to frame Bluders comments about tough rebounding being like a bar fight as implying something racist also adding "we're not monkeys" in response to Bluder. Of course Bluder loves people, all of her players, is a decent and good human, and would never say something like that. Then of course when it came to Ucon losing this year they couldn't accept that 1. Iowa has been playing the best team ball in the country, 2. they weren't playing that great as a team, and 3. genome made some huge coaching mistakes including on the last play by setting up a screen on the edge of the floor that would trap his own shooter and made his slow lateral movement player have to attempt to screen on Iowa's fastest lateral movement player. Regarding race, yes some people picked up on that which is super super cheap, however no matter what her ethnicity they would have picked on that, if she was 100% white they would have said something about that if she was 100% black they would have called her a sell out. These aren't real basketball fans they're just need to get their rocks off only through their team winning always and they don't even follow their own players into the WNBA
If you want to be honest Edwards didn’t steal the ball on the preceding play. She stepped out of bounds while trying to steal the ball. It was never UConn’s ball to inbound. The play that everyone is crying about shouldn’t have been allowed, it was a mistake by the referees to give the ball to UConn. Watch the video yourself. She had the ball in both hands and is standing over the baseline out of bounds.
I don't know if y'all remember back in the day when we had the "magnificent seven" USA Olympic women's gymnastics team, and they pulled off an upset and won the gold medal! Gabbie M. is quite quick and cat-like, and, persistent, which, prob was on Aaliyah E’s mind.
Gabbie also in amazing shape. She'll play that Carline D the whole 40 mins several nights a week. A beast.
"neither should you elbow thy sister" lmao 🤣
The 11th commandment 🥳
The reason Marshall reacted the way she did was because of the "bulldozer-screen" at 1:20 of the game. THAT also was a moving screen. Edwards ran over her.
defeat is the ultimate test of character…
I’m going to miss seeing that Iowa team next season. They were so fun to watch.
UCon: 10 Violations in last 2:40 of the game): Ucon gains 7pts, Iowa loses 2-3 pts + 2 posses
1. Love the "LeBron" 4 step no-call at 1:38 (video time) Ucon scores 2
2. Edwards legs wide enough to ride a buffalo - :2:07 (let go) foul. Ucon scores 2
3. Ucon 10 jump shoves Clark from behind she almost hits the rim. 2:22 (let-go) foul Iowa loses 2 or 3pts.
4. Paige shoves Gabbie in the back, 2:37 (let-go) foul - will lead to miss despite 3 violations...
5. Edwards moving screen/no room to move shoves Gabbie down 2:38 (let-go) foul.
6. GOAT Paige misses all but grazing the back of the backboard 2:42(not called out of bounds)
7. UCon 10 underhooks Clark's arm to ''steal'' the ball 2:57 (let-go) foul - change of possession Ucon 3 pts
8. Paige reaches in/over the back-push 3:33 (let-go) foul - ''steal'' - for UCon
9. UCon 2 steps out of bounds (need more HD to comfirm) with ball. no-call - UConn ''steal"
10. Edwards sliding hockey check 4:13. Iowa gets 1/10 calls.
Wow. That is a lot of fouls or no calls. Interesting how it is ALL UCONN violations Not one mention of IOWA infractions. Cherrypick much?
@@chewymatchewy understand basketball much? Ucon was playing face guard over the top body up handchheck whatever they could get away with while Iowa was playing off the ball zone and just covering the passing lanes and closing out. Learn the difference.
@@chewymatchewy Iowa plays pretty clean basketball. Good to know the rules. Their weakness is probably defense and lack of size.
The foul was a hard call to make especially with a play. But it was also a clear foul. I hate how Gabbie is getting hate for this. she's just playing basketball. I also hate how Reese just gotta start something, imo people who think its clean is acoustic
Yeah, it was obviously an illegal screen. Geno admitted that. And Gabbie just reacted out of passion. But I like how Paige and Aliyah took ownership of the situation. Nika also became an amazing clutch player.
A hard call to make? A foul is an easy call to make? Even an elbow and a hip check. And what are you talking about especially with a play? What does that even mean? Did you even play ball?
@@JusBellAndAri I could ask you the same thing, clearly stating you don't even know what a play is. Uconn had a play ready to make one more attempt to get ahead, which failed due to the moving screen. This singular play would've changed the outcome of the game if they did it right. You also clearly don't know about refs these days. They are horrendous. But I also have to say reffing is hard.
No, it wasn't a hard call to make. It was so blatant, there was no choice.
@@Krims_on stulke was all over page anyway, she would have got the shot blocked .
Gabby did fine.
Clark is smart and insightful.
She would be a great coach and or announcer.
Her talent is very easy to follow.
She always has something to say that is relavant.
You do a great job of adding to the dramatic gravity of the moments! I really want to see Kate Martin on the same team as Caitlin Clark again. :)
Coach, you need to teach the girls to block out.
Crystal clear foul. Sick of moving screens.
I saw Ohio State slide screens against Iowa for about ten minutes here in Carver Hawkeye Arena that season before they finally got called on it. Really tiresome.
That was crazy how many people thought that was a legal screen . Probably wouldn’t have been called if she wouldn’t have shifted both feet and leaned in with elbow and knee
Rumor has it that the gamblers on the game were upset .well a foul is a foul in the 1st quarter or the 4 quarter. Player s know the rules. Just hoping to get away with it.
I wasn't aware they were playing prison rules.
Excellent presentation. I love the production quality. However, AT 3:09 I don't think it could be a backcourt violation because the ball was deflected by Edwards/UCONN toward the backcourt.
Unfortunately, Kate Martin did not know that at the time. She could have safely recovered the ball in the backcourt with no violation. Basically, if the defense knocks the ball into the backcourt, you are allowed to go get it. I’m going to miss seeing that Iowa team next season. They were so fun to watch. The reason it was a "bad" call was that both teams were doing it all game but it only gets called on the last play Let me get this straight. The offense gets to cheat in championship games.
That dry sarcastic but yet highly dramatic commentary (and voice) got me pretty quickly but I had to pause to write this comment apprecating your "When tho screeneth thou shall not move..."-sentence. Hilarious and brilliant. I agree, and Connecticut gets away with a lot of those. How officials can miss an obvious push-off and moving screen is astounding to me. Coach, you need to teach the girls to block out. Whoever threatens Gabbie or any player should be ashamed! The player has nothing to do with the call. She is a tough defender. I love UCOON, personally, I believe the ref should "let go," and the players decide the game. Gabbie was only doing her task. No one, I mean no should hate the players because of a ref call. Those death threats on Gabbie are a spineless move!!! Rumor has it that the gamblers on the game were upset well a foul is a foul in the 1st quarter or the 4 quarter. Players know the rules. Just hoping to get away with it. 3 weeks ago, Coach, you need to teach the girls to block out. UConn and ESPN mafia making this easy call a big deal. Being in Bristol, ESPN made Connecticut women's basketball a thing and fawned over them, highlighted them, and publicized them. Geno should thank ESPN for making his career with a massive recruiting advantage. The only Women's CBB you saw on TV in the 2000s was UConn. Thanks to ESPN. It was illegal come on I am a Uconn fan, but I have seen a trend of our Seniors failing us in March. Muhl also put us at risk with her needless fouling in multiple games. That was absolutely a great call. She had been using moving screens all along, and she finally got called out on it. You go, girl.

How come the media doesn’t talk about this? Only about Reese part 2 is the test.
You did a great job on this. You hit all the emotions. 😂😢😮. That bible section had me rolling. Deserves a sub
THAT'S what I'm saying! Here legs were totally spread out, just to START on what went wrong here!
What a game! The 2024 women’s college tournament WAS ELECTRIC!!!!
Ok because I saw people arguing in the comments about this being a “clean screen”let me explain it from the person on my team who screens the most with a what she did vs what she should have done
1st her feet were very wide and her right foot had moved
If she hadn’t had that wide of a stance and her foot didn’t move maybe the call wouldn’t have happened
2nd her elbows, you can see her elbows out on this play which will definitely be a call. If she had her elbows in there probably wouldn’t have been a call.
And yes Gabbie does play into this. She is an amazing defender who knew that if she overreacted the screen she could get the call there and what she did was smart
Caitlin rocks that Ruth Buzzy hairnet!
All I hear is about how you can’t make that call at that time but never saying it was a bad call smh
UCONN coach said there's an illegal screen call you could make on every possession so it must be a strategy used by UCONN. But Edwards shouldn't have made it so blatent.
Gabhie, you're a great player, and you shouldn't look back. That was absolutely a great call. She had been using moving screens all along, and she finally got called out on it. You go, girl.
I cant believe thats what he teaches as a legit screen
Great editing, love your style
Thank you so much, man!
Gabbie I bet your happy you didn't join these girls in the WNBA. They are all nuts!!😂😂Your the smart 1!!!

Ref made the right call. If the call wasn't made then the ref influenced the game by not calling an obvious foul.

That’s a moving screen. What’s the problem?
That was an amazing game. Too bad the WNBA can't have the same attitude as the collage teams.
Wow..what a dramatic game!! But sorry, that was an illegal moving block!
I love the play from CC throwing the ball to paige leg😂😂 very high basketball IQ and guts
Right! What’s interesting is it feels like cheating but Paige recognized it like, “Oh, that was smart.”
CC said it best about Iowa Basketball is about sharing the ball & playing as a Team unlike Indiana Fever Basketball.
This excitement from College footage era from Clark's Team along w/ the other Teams brought soo many new young/old fans to women's basketball. The finals ratings were even bigger then the profession men or women.
Oh, absolutely! These girls made me love basketball again. They play with passion.
Gabbie is doing her thing and she’s happy, Kate playing Vegas and amazing job. CC is doing great so all is good in Iowa. Next season is going to be great with Hannah, and our great recruits so until next season have a great summer. U Conn is great and have nothing to be ashamed of. At 7:44 of your video you can see a moving screen. She was guilty of a foul, refs made the correct call.
Geno saw the foul, he just don't want to admit what he saw a foul. Don't move your trailing leg, it gets called every time.
yup , geno knew it was a good call . he never once said anything to the official , he just turned around and screamed toward the bench.
WOW, actual white people playin basketball.
Moving screens are not allowed. Pretty simple.
I'd keep Gabbie safe.
And Auriema calls Caitlin Clark fans and Iowa fans idiots! Is he serious! This girl was getting death threats from some U. Conn zealots. This guy needs to get out bc he’s become a clown.
Zero controversy! Not only is her body loving but her arm is extended aswell. 😂😂.
Kids today and even the very young talking heads can’t deal with the fact that this isnt a video game! You don’t get the big Disney ending you want all the time! It was a moving foul, and it doesn’t matter one tiny bit WHEN it happened! You got a problem and you’re a UConn fan, be mad at the player who set the illegal screen or the coach who taught them to play that way!
Sound like Iowa fans want to move the goal post cause they couldn’t finish there Cinderella story
UConn should have recruited CC. Imagine Caitlin and Paige playing together?
All of those ladies seem to be the epitome of class to me.
I love how this guy basically trolls CC, lol
that screen call was a hundred percent " we need Caitlyn Clark in the finals" call.
so when is it a foul?
Your are confused about causes and consequences.
@@12345fowler You're or you are - pick one.
Anyone that has ever played any kind of organized hoop knew instantly that was an illegal screen including Marshall.
It was a moving screen. Period.
I realized recently that Clark is super narcissistic and you can see she consideres herself more important she just does a good job of hiding it
In order to be a offensive foul the defending player has to have her elbows down and be stationary with neither happened here.
If doo doo Barbie gets to share the ROTY award, then the ROTY award will be absolutely Worthless!
Let me see a highlight longer than the video please
How is it her fault?
Imagine being dumb enough to lose enough money on a game that you would threaten a young lady's life .. or maybe even being that fanatical , or a teammate who lost a lot of endorsement money .. either way , is basketball the only game in the world that you can win or lose on one play .. 🤔 .. I just hope this young lady keeps her chin up , her chest out , keeps going forward and doesn't let the insanity impact her which can be hard , but as she goes on she'll realize it's all just hot air ..
Just show the foul.. why you showing the whole game
“Cause I need money” durrr
I’m mocking this channel not you. FYI
Because it makes it more exciting when you see that the game is down to the last seconds and THEN this foul happens. It also shows why people were making threats to Gabby (who didn't blow the whistle or fall to the floor exaggerating the blow). The game was on the line. I think it was great theater... the editing.
4:22 Precisely!! Thank you!!!
I’m going to guess the following.
She celebrates but so does Caitlin Clark and Angel Reece.
The real reason is that somehow her ethnicity offended people implicitly.
SOME people don’t like when you appear to be hiding in the crowd and don’t openly claim your ethnicity…
She gets a lot of attention for her looks and her eyes.. so that bothers some.
Sad but it happens a lot..
weird comment. How about talking about basketball instead of race.
You're saying this because Gabbie identifies as half-black??? I don't quite understand what you're getting at...
@@destinypirate can you think of another reason that she is being hated on??
So 100% illegal moving screen, which is completely not up to debate. Wheres is even possible controversy???
She move good call !!!!!!’
The refs may not have been calling it all game as people are claiming (I didn't watch it) but that was so blatant, how can they not call it?
If you want to be honest Edwards didn’t steal the ball on the preceding play. She stepped out of bounds while trying to steal the ball. It was never UConn’s ball to inbound. The play that everyone is crying about shouldn’t have been allowed, it was a mistake by the referees to give the ball to UConn. Watch the video yourself. She had the ball in both hands and is standing over the baseline out of bounds.
plus the travel at 1:38 and the ''bulldoze'' of Gabbie.
In short, that was a good call. Period.
Great video!
I don't know if y'all remember back in the day when we had the "magnificent seven" USA Olympic women's gymnastics team, and they pulled off an upset and won the gold medal! I love those girls, and I felt like I knew them, even though I didn't. Likewise, I feel the same way about this Iowa women's basketball team!
The foul wasn't controversial at all; it was clearly a foul.
