      Also, a lot of the sensation about the injuries didn't take into account that it's a player responsibility to provide accurate injury history for good preventative care, also players have their own doctors which they have a perfect right to but then conflicts in care arise especially with them maybe training in the offseason with their own basketball trainers not well versed in iso and physiometrics. A good portion of the players injury happened away from the season. Paige had an ankle injury not taken care of prior to her freshman season that contributed to the knee destabilization. I understand they want to play but they also have to be smart, this time though she took the time - she hated it, but it was the best thing.

    LOL, saying WNBA players are jealous is ridiculous. Sue Bird featured Caitlin Clark in an episode of her ESPN+ show and has made several supportive comments about her. Also, saying Paige is going to make more money staying in college next year is also not accurate. Her NIL deals will transfer to endorsement deals once she goes pro. She will likely earn even higher in endorsements because she'll have more time throughout the year to work with those brands.

    Being the face of college basketball next year and making a ton of money with the NIL are not the primary reasons for Paige to stay at UCONN for an additional year. Her quest for a National Championship for UCONN oversees any other goal. Why? To some it doesn't make sense. Paige is a 'lifer' and she has endured injuries which may have cost UCONN the chance to win a National Championship while she played there. Next year will give her one more chance to do it and the UCONN roster will be full of outstanding players to support her.
    In direct answer to your question, YES, she will be the face of college basketball. There are many star players who might compile higher scoring numbers but no one, I repeat, NO ONE can put together a skill package like she can. A lot of what she contributes for a winning team are not on the stat sheet. They have to do with her wonderful personality and her 'team comes first' approach to the way she plays the game. If she feels it is necessary to 'take over a game', she will, but otherwise she would rather share the spotlight with her teammates. And her strength is her faith. She is a kind, caring and loving human being and people who follow her don't just admire her as a player, they also love her. I do.

    Forget about the stats. (I can't believe I just said that!) The thing you realize if you know the game is that she is (a) a workaholic who has learned to change speeds, hesitate, and shoot through thousands of hours of hard work in the gym and (b) truly has ice water in her veins. The bigger the moment, the more likely it is she will seize it. I remember that crazy 2OT game against NC State when an announcer said, "She's just built different." That's it right there -- she's just got some gene none of us ever got. Larry Bird had it. MJ had it. When the game's on the line, I want the ball in her hands. If she stays healthy, she will surpass Caitlyn Clark in the WNBA. Watch and see.

    • @J36Ops
      @J36Ops 6 месяцев назад

      As the most publicized player in college she will actually get more attention than as the 2nd or 3rd most publicized rookie in the pros. More publicity equals higher NIL. The salary in the pros is actually quite small, Clark will only be making $78K next year. Then the following year she will likely be the #1 pick in the draft, again the difference in publicity (and advertising income) between #1 and #2 is large. So total she is in fact likely to make more money by staying in school.

  • @bugfany10
    @bugfany10 7 месяцев назад +14

    Thought your video was pretty informative and unbiased, until towards the end.
    1. NIL deals follow college players to the WNBA. They don't just stop after they graduate. So they don't just earn a WNBA rookie salary.
    2. Bird and Taurasi were asked who they'd pick first between Bueckers and Clark, they didn't just randomly bring it up. They gave their opinion as professional athletes, on who they thought was a better pick skill-wise.
    3. You (and many others) need to stop with the narrative that the vets are jealous just because they say that going from college to the WNBA is a big jump, and that the W is not as easy as in college. They're speaking from EXPERIENCE, not from a place of jealousy. (They even admit they had troubles adjusting!) They know what skills are necessary for players to compete at the highest level. By assuming whatever they say is because of jealousy, you're diminishing them as professional athletes who have spent YEARS working hard to stay in a competitive league. It says more about your biasness that you can't trust the words of athletes who know their shit, and aren't afraid to stay objective even though they know that will cause them to be harassed by a certain subset of fans.

    I don’t think it’s going to be all about Paige next year when there are players like you mentioned Juju, Flau'jae, plus you have to remember SC is a stacked all star team that got even more stacked again this year…plus there is the new players that are going to be just coming in next season so to say that Paige is going to be the face next season is a bit premature.
    I truly think it’s between Juju & Flau'jae actually.
    Plus I know that Paige stayed in college because she doesn’t want to not be a UConn player that doesn’t have a national championship title when you have players like Brianna & Diana that claim in order to be the best you have to have a title but I don’t think even without the stars that left for the WNBA UConn will be winning that title it’s going to end up being SC, LSU and even USC and some sleeper schools because I know there are some really talented players that just came in to the NCAA this coming year so I think Paige’s time has come and gone. If she is smart she will use this year to prepare to face the physicality of the WNBA next year because with what many are learning the WNBA is alot more physical and with how short of the time gap from college to the draft to the first season game is they don’t have the time to prepare so she now has this year to build up in the gym to strengthen herself for that physicality that the players that have just been drafted didn’t.

    Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, and Breanna Stewart are all UConn graduates, so there might be some bias. Clark is an unparalled superstar scorer, a good passer, and clutch player. Pais is a very good scorer, a phenomenal passer and clutch player. However, this year Paige also added better defense (blocking shots) to her game. I think where Paige is better than Clark is her exceptional court vision (she is. point guard), anticipating plays before they even occur. Paige definitely would average more PPG than what has now because she prefers to pass than shoot! Auriemma constantly yells her to shoot more, which is highly unusual.

I think they are equally as good at passing. Paige plays better defense than Caitlin for sure. But Caitlin wasn't needed that much in that capacity, and they needed to keep her out of foul trouble because Iowa couldn't afford her fouling out. If you look at the stats from this past year. I came to women’s basketball because of PB back when Paige was in h.s. (except when the Lady Longhorns were in the top 10, but even then I only watched a handful of Lady Longhorn games in any given year). Paige’s abilities in h.s. were phenomenal. I even started watching UConn games in PB’s freshman year even though I was a Lady Longhorn fan. I may have heard about Caitlin Clark in 2023, but bc PB had been dealing with injuries, I lost interest in women’s basketball. I think I was avoiding watching CC videos, even though the buzz about CC was growing bc I felt that CC couldn’t be as good as PB. In early 2024, I caught a RUclips video of one of CC’s game. My immediate intrigue quickly turned to full-blown obsession, and I couldn’t get enough of Caitlin Clark videos. Since the midway point of the 2024 Iowa Hawkeye season, I watched every Iowa game and became a Hawkeye fan. I also started watching 2023 game highlights, or even previous years’ full games that involved Caitlin Clark. I couldn’t get enough. For the first time in my life, I watch a draft program (WNBA or NBA) to see Caitlin selected as the #1 pick. When the 2024 WNBA season started, I watched my first WNBA game ever. Any game that involved CC was must-see. Returning to PB, my interest in her career is still solid, but it is nothing like my interest in CC’s career. We’ll see how PB does this year, but comparing the two, I’d say that CC’s passing ability is unmatched, even considering PB’s considerable skills, and CC’s 3-point ability is also unmatched. PB’s 3-point range is pretty good, but it has not reached the level that CC’s skill has reached. CC is truly a generational talent, like Tiger Woods was when he came on to the scene. Paige is like Jordan Spieth or Scottie Sheffler. These two guys got me watching golf when they are near the top of the lease board, but they did not capture my interest like Tiger Woods did in the late 90s and into the 2000s. I’ll probably watch many UConn games this coming season, if PB is playing, but I will definitely watch all Fever games as long as CC is involved.

    Love her game and I hope she gets drafted by terrible Indiana next year and can team up with cc3 in the backcourt.
    Paige and Caitlin have the two most beautiful games in women's basketball. They are so smooth and easy and so much fun to watch.
    Also a goddamn joke but PB like Clark did not make the Olympic team and several lesser players did. I would have put them both in the three and three with hvl and brink because they've won three international gold medals together.

    Looking at Paige's NCAA rookie stats, the only average where she beat Caitlin was steals per game, and her points from 3 average. Her season total for assists - *168*, a record at UConn it says here - positively pales besides Caitlin's *214*, as does her *581* points for the season to Caitlin's *799.* (Caitlin only played 1 more game than Paige.)
    Paige is obviously a fantastic player, and hopefully she'll do fantastically this season. But it's baffling why she seems to have got all the awards for that season when Caitlin's stats are not just better, but significantly better.
    Injuries really suck for sportspersons. All throughout Emma Raducanu's US Open run people were saying 'If she avoids injuries, she's gonna win multiple slams'. 3 years later, she's just come b ack from 8 months off, 3 operations, recovery and rehabilitation and was ranked 302 in the world. Admittedly she just had 2 good wins last week but that still only sees her about 220. I hope Paige is injury-free from here on.

      Please understand how much more difficult it is to play with an entire squad of five star players than how easy it was for Caitlin Clark just playing with average players. It's not like there's any bias towards propping up Uconn and the gatekeeper teams over flyover Iowa.
      There are so many reasons why Paige is better than Caitlin I put those in my first level comment on this video

    • @BenjWarrant
      @BenjWarrant 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@destinypirate You're just not thinking clearly. If Ms Clark's team mates were so average, and Ms Bueckers were not, Ms Clark couldn't have made twice as many assists as Bueckers and still beaten everyone up until SC. Average team mates would be required to funnel the ball to the star and she would score all the points. That's not what happens.
      If you're pleading that there was some kind of unfair handling of Iowa rather than UConn, then you have lost your argument. Because now what you're saying is that Bueckers - blond, blue-eyed, tall - is being artificially prejudiced by the NCAA when she's a better player. There's no logic in that at all.

      Your first statement is laughable, the Iowa supporting cast is equal to the Uconn n team, lololol.
      It's not possible that Iowa simply had a player that was that much better and a coach that was that much better -able to carry a supporting cast of average players to the highest level... Totally not possible. 👍

    I have been watching paige since she was in high school. and she is an amazing cheerleader for womens basketball not to mention her abilities in shooting, passing and court awarness. My biggest problem with Page and I would bet you its her coaches as well, is that if you piss her off on the court her next play will be her being a dog:.scoring, stealing or blocking a shot but the problem is that she does not seem to have the mentality to start and finish the game in that same "dog" mode. She seems to play at slow to medium speed . if page is to be considered up there with caitlin, cameran and angel she needs to get that fire under her ass from somewhere. and it needs to escalate during the game and be continual and consistant not just when some fan pisses her off by yelling out something. i love watchiing her and rooting for her but i find myself yelling at her to move her ass and get in "dog" mode instead of her seemingly lacksadasical running up and down the court. she took the extra year so its up to her to see what type of player she wants to be, "a dog" or just another good female player not able to put it in 100th gear and fire hewrself up to take over a game. i pray its in her to do or she will never be better than an ok playerwho at times looked great

    Paige's shooting percentages on 2s and 3s have always been much better than Caitlin's. Caitlin takes many more shots than Paige. Last season, before the UConn - Iowa game, Paige would have needed to shoot 200 more shots and miss them all, to have the same lower shooting percentage as Caitlin's.

    I'm a huge Bueckers fan. Team obviously is not close to 2024 Final Four without her.
    But what few have said, after Paige hit a 3 mid-2nd QTR to push UCONN lead over Iowa to 28-16, IMO she had opportunities rest of 2nd to really damage Iowa's chances. Instead, 1 of 3 from field (no 3's) and a turnover, as lead was cut to 32-26 at half.
    Thanks mainly to Muhl's D (and good team D to support her), Clark shot poorly (7-18 for just 21 pts) & 4 turnovers. But Page also shot poorly (7-17 for 17 pts) & 4 turnovers. Also no steals and only 3 assists.
    I hope and expect Bueckers to have a great 2024-25 season. Whichever WNBA team drafts her at #1 will be very fortunate.

    Bueckers remains the best all around player in women's college ball. She's been that way since the day she arrived at Uconn in 2020. Given the growth of women's basketball, and if Paige's injuries remain a thing of the past, her generous gifts will be common knowledge soon enough.
