All true, he was an amazing singer and he had no voice training whatsoever, his singing came naturally. Unfortunately, he died of cancer done years ago. Rest in Peace Ronnie Hanes Dio, you and your voice love on in the hearts and minds of millions, including me. May your voice echo in heaven.

I had the privilege of meeting RJD 3 times in his career. What a performer, what a gentlemen, and one of the greatest singers of our time. This song always warms my heart and kicks ass at the same time. Music truly lost a lot when you left us. Rest easy now brother, as your work you left behind will live on forever for all those who heard it, and for all those who have yet to do so.

I heard he has a razor-sharp memory, of everybody that he's ever met. Was it true in terms of you, when you got reacquainted those three times?
He Most certainly did! But I did have an unfair advantage then most as I was working for two very popular bands myself when I met him., but he remembered!
He did indeed! I did have an advantage over most as I was working for a very popular band myself at the time that he was a fan of. He engaged in meaningful conversation about the band and offered sound and lifelong advice. He was a gentlemen and scholar of life...I will always be thankful and grateful for having just to speak with him, never mind all the incredible music he left us!
@@rjs6778 Yes, my impression is of a man who, while he wrestled with his own pain from being an immigrant's child (and all the formidable challenges that brings), generally he seemed really quite empathic and sensitive to the plight of the oppressed. Again, this may have roots in his working class, immigrant upbringing where survival itself was never something to be taken for granted.

One of Dio's underrated songs...I first heard this as a kid when I bought an album called masters of metal... Mixed album from many bands.. Those were the days!

Does anyone else realizes how deep the massage of this song is? This man was a true legend, He is still a legend and he will remain as such
I can still remember the excitement I felt when MTV was about to show Dio's "Mystery" for the very first time, in 1984 (I believe it was). Seeing this again (in RHINO's excellent video quality) in 2020 makes me feel like that 16 year-old kid again.

I saw Ronnie live once and was blown away at how amazing he was. He had such a wonderful voice, it's the one voice that truly personifies heavy metal. It's a shame he's gone but his music will always live on especially since he is the king of heavy metal.

I just read my diary from 1985 and this was my favorite Dio song back then.. I`m now 49. Time flies.
By this time RJD had been playing in bands and writing music for over 30 years.
Great intro, middle and ending with thoughtful lyrics is what Stuart Adamson called a great tune. Here we have it in spades.

This song is a beautiful poem written by one of the most brilliant poets of the 20th Century turned into a song. And I will be the first to admit, Dio paired up with the illusionist is a great metaphor to make the song and the video tie together seamlessly.

I bought the album on CD in the late 90s this is my favorite song from Dio.
Such a performer and of course he is the God of Heavy Metal.
I heard RJD singing with a big band at the NAMM music trade show in the late 80s... The man had incredible pipes and could sing a much wider variety of styles than you'd think. R.I.P.

This is a great tune and video. It is somewhat underrated now compared to Rainbow in the Dark and others. In the 80s the hard rock-metal station I listened to actually played this Dio tune more than any of his others.

Funnily enough, Dio hated this song, said it sounded too much "Pop", but was convinced by his bandmates that it should be included on the "Last In Line" album.
