- Antique rusty cleaver restoration. This old cleaver was found in the woods by a metal detector. I think the cleaver was made in the late 19th century. The cleaver was very rusty. I decided to restore it. I removed the rust and sharpened the blade, made a new handle. I hope you liked my restoration.

Є у мене одна думка, що може допомогти з покращенням техпроцесу. На одному з заводів де я працював, для чистки ніжних деталей (а вироби що ви реставруєте часто ніжні), використовувалась не звичайна піскоструйка, а "кісточка та крихта", варіант піскоструйки де замість піску чи іншого важкого та руйнівного абразиву використовувалась подрібнена до розміру крупного піску кісточка (наприклад абрикоси) чи шкаралупа горіху. Їх крихта чистить поверхню не гірше абразиву, але при цьому не залишає пошкоджень типових для пісуоструйки, не "з'їдає" поверхню. Дістати шкаралупу горіха легко, це дешевий доступний матеріал, щоправда тут є певна складність, потрібен млин щоб змолоти на ньому шкаралупу чи кісточку на крихту. Якщо цей момент можна вирішити, то раеставрація тонких пошкоджених іржею поверхонь іноді зможе мати вищу якість і іноді потребуватиме менше операцій. Звісно, якщо знали про таке, то вибачаюся. Хоча інженерна справа нині в занепаді, і про багато класних техпроцесів я більше не чую ,чи чую як про щось міфічне та недоступне, то може і цей з їх числа.
Дякую! Це б підійшло для очистки латуні, але з цим багато мороки. Залізо в мене дуже іржаве, тому очистка має бути грубою.

How do you know it's 120 years old without any markings on the blade
You can tell a lot by the shape of the blade, tangs style, and the collar on the handle. I don't know enough to confirm the age but that's now most people would get an approximate age.
Rusty Cleaver sounds like a persons name.
Don't cleave too much with that thing, that tang is tiny!
