It was a huge surprise for sure. I did not even know the Monogram had made RC cars and to see it brand new and still wrapped up was shocking!! I have no idea where he finds these things, must be that Elf magic! I cannot thank him enough and the next video will go over the kit in more detail now that I have had time to soak it all in!
Such an awsome gift from the rc elf 👍 i live seeing all these other channels and the weird and wonderfull cars the elf sends them. A real trip down memory lane 😁
This one caught me off guard and I would have never guess what was wrapped up in there!!! I never knew (or old brain doesn't remember!) that Monogram made any RCs! It is a really neat and odd little buggy. I am almost done editing the video for Saturday which I dig a bit deeper and find out what looks to work well and what is a bit iffy with it. It does have the decals on and the driver figure painted so it really looks the part now!
@@AddamsPlayground i’ll be watching for sure 👍 with any luck the transmission for the procat will be here at the weekend 🤞 can finaly do my procat video 😂
It is a very interesting kit and I spent a good while just sitting there soaking it all in! I didn't even know Monogram had done RCs in the past, I only knew them from the models and some diecast cars. I have the decals on and the driver pained which made it really come alive and trying to find a dry day to take it out for a light run! The Elf really has dug deep into the magic mag to find this one!
It really did this year! This one was very unique and different. I have since dug into it and figured some stuff out about it so that video will be out soon. RC Elf is full of surprises and I cannot thank him enough!
OMG, my guess was Monogram!! My very first RC kit car was the Monogram Mad Wolf! It had dual rear chain drives. IT was pretty cool though I busted a pin in one of the rear drive shafts and since the car was discontinued it was impossible to find parts. I bought it for $30 at Hobby Lobby in Ft. Collins, CO back in 1986. I used a Futaba dual stick 2 channel controller with it. Unlike this car the Mad Wolf was a kit car that clearly mimicked Tamiya. What a great gift once again from the RC ELF.
I had seen that car when I was doing my homework on the next video of this. It was a very interesting buggy and they really seemed to take ideas from other platforms and turn it into their own spin of the idea! I got it all decaled and the driver figure painted so it looks a lo better and more alive now! That should be out shortly (as soon as I get it all edited) and as soon as I get a good dry time I will take it out for a quick spin!
I dug into it the other day and have gotten the driver painted and I just need to get it out for a light drive but it keeps raining every couple days so as soon as it dries up it starts raining again! I will get it out shortly! RC Elf is full of wonderful surprises!
Very cool. Monogram were decent cars back in the day. Cars that could be repaired but more for people who were not into actual building models. Great of the Elf to send another car to you.
It is a really cool and unique kit. They really took other designs and made them their own. Some of them they did fairly well and other parts were a little lack luster but it is a awesome car and I am excited to have been chosen for this amazing gift! My next video I will dig into a bit more and go over some of the oddities of it! I was surprised to see you could almost every part except the chassis so that was big time for a ready to run kit like this back then!
That's too cool and very different. The RC Elf comes up with RC's I've never heard of and they are always awesome just like him! Enjoy that cool car and happy RC'ing!
Th Elf is amazing and where he finds these gems is beyond me, it is that Elf magic!!! This one I never knew existed and it is really interesting to see how it all works. The next video should be out fairly soon, I have to get it all edited!
Yes, there are still styrofoam balls floating around all over out there! It is a very unique kit and I had a great time just looking it over and figuring it all out. I have the decals on, the driver painted and it has really come to life with those details on there. In the next video I go over it in more detail and that should be out fairly soon! I need to get a dry day to get out and run it around a little bit! The Elf sure found am interesting one and I cannot think him enough for sending it over here for me to share!
@@AddamsPlayground the weather is shocking over here, I got drenched last week trying to film something. Massive love to the RC Elf for helping us all out when we need it. should be able to get to the post office next week also so hopefully you will get the stickers for xmas
It really is a cool buggy, very unique design and interesting stuff going on. I am working on the editing of the next video for it where I go through it a bit more and get the painting and decals done. It looks way cooler now! The Elf really surprised me with this one!!! I had no idea these even existed!
I have heard the bodies were very prone to cracking and snapping. I can see how the way it is mounted. I did pull it apart some to paint the driver and to be nosey on how it all worked! There is some interesting stuff in there I have never seen on a prebuilt car like this. The next video should be out soon (once I get it all edited) and I go over all that. Thanks for the info!
Thank you! This one really is unique and in the next video I dig into it a lot deeper and I have gotten the decals on and the driver figure paint which made it come to life! It will get out for a light run as soon as the weather cooperates with me! As soon as it starts to dry up it rains again! The review video should be coming out soon and the drive will probably be after that. It won't go around the track as the suspension is so soft it is just going to get shredded on the bottom out there! The Elf really has some amazing magic to find such amazing treasures and I cannot thank him enough!
I know how you feel about the rc elf he is really great one to talk to about rc he does a lot of research on rc vehicles to find all of the sweet ass rc vehicles sometimes I don't know where he comes up with all of them i think that sometimes I blow he mine with some of the things that I have done with the beautiful truck's that I have got from the great rc elf
@@3dman875 I think he made have built a time machine or something to find this one!! LoL!! He is a wonderful guy and I enjoy chatting with him about things. I am also very impressed with the details and stuff you have done with your trucks! They look fabulous! I love the "restoration" you did on the rust bucket truck. I would have never known it was the same truck!!
Sorry that I have been missing your video but a lot of my rc friends didn't know that I was in the hospital for 3 weeks and then in rehabilitation for another 3 weeks i had a stroke been doing good i have been home for about 3 week a more 4 i all most didn't make it to my 61 birthday that way you have not seen me
@@3dman875 oh man, I am sorry you have been dealing with that! I am very happy you are home and hoping you keep improving and feeling better. Take your time and don't worry about being offline for a bit. Take care of yourself and let's make sure you get through a bunch more of those birthdays!!
OMG Addam! The Elf completely knocked the ball out of the park with this one! How he does I I'll never know, I mean, a NIB RC car from 1986 WITH THE SHRINK WRAP STILL ON!!! That's amazing! I must admit I've never heard of, or seen anything like this before. Fantastic that Mr Elf sent this to you to share with us RC fans. I'm intrigued to see more of this buggy, how the drivetrain works and all that good stuff. And yeah, it will be so cool to see it given a (gentle!) run on the lawn! Take care, bud! :))
I am convinced he has built a time machine or has opened a portal into the 80s to have found this one! It looks like it rolled off the assembly line last week! I was completely shocked to both see the shrink wrap on a car from almost 40 years ago and to see the Monogram name on there when I ripped the paper back! I only know Monogram from their plastic model kits and some die cast cars, I had no idea they had made RCs! Turns out they had a few of them and they were all made by Bandai. It is very interesting the intertwined paths and connections of the RC and toy world throughout the ages. Elf really surprised me, I would have never guess what was in that box!!! LOL!! More on it in Saturday's video. I have not been able to get it out for a run yet as it keeps raining, there is a chance today or tomorrow I can find the time and it be dry enough to run it around! Take care and more on it shortly!
Thanks, it really is a unique kit and in the next video I will go over it in a bit mre detail. The stickers are one and the driver is painted which made it come to life! The Elf really found a gem here and I cannot think him enough!
Thanks! They really borrowed design queues from other models and made them their own! Some of it works well and others they missed the mark a little. In the next video I will go over all of that so stay tuned!
Great gift Addam. I had never seen this car before, even dididn't know they do RCs. Only display model got here. I like especially the suspension design😲
The suspension is very neat and was really close to being very good but they missed the mark a little. More on that in the next video! I got it decaled and the driver painted and I am just waiting for a dry day where I have time to go out and run it around a little bit.
Awesome find by the Rc Elf! I do remember monogram having a small limited line of Rc’s, but they were out of my parents financial ability back then. Toys R us carried them and i believe service merchandise did as well. There is a lot of tech in there that was a bit ahead of its time when it came to Rc’s back then. Not sure where he found this, but I’ll bet they are pretty rare indeed! Can’t wait to see it run! Very amazing gift Addam! God Bless the Rc elf and his ability to bring people together. He definitely has a great knowledge of these cars much like you brother. Think he may of surprised you with this one!😂😃🙌🏽 thanks for sharing buddy!
I was really surprised with this one! One, I had no idea what expect and two, I had no idea that Monogram had made RCs! I have since torn it down some to figure some stuff out and also have gotten the driver painted and the decals on it. It really looks good now with the details on it!! In the next video I will go through the buggy in more detail and what I learned on it up to now. I am waiting for a dry day to take it out for a spin but it keeps rain every few days!! It is the perfect combo of weird and cool I just love!! I am pretty sure he may have a time machine now as this one looks like it was just made last week! even the packaging looks like it has not seen the light of day for 30+ years! absolutely amazing.
If I ever saw anything about it it was long forgotten as this was a big surprise to see the Monogram name on it! I only knew them from their model kits and some diecast cars! He must have a time machine now as this whole package looks like it was made yesterday! It was vert cool to see it in such pristine shape, I am trying to keep it that way. I did get it torn down and the driver painted and the decals on. So it looks a lot better now. In the next video I go over it in more details and point out some of the interesting things about it. I am waiting for a dry to go out and run it, it keeps raining right before it dries up!
It was a big surprise to me as I never knew they had made RCs! I only knew Monogram from the models and some diecast from back in the day! I have torn it down some, gotten the driver painted and the stickers on it. It has really come to life now and looks great. I will go through the buggy in more detail in the next video of it. I need it to dry up some so I can take it out for a run! (ac careful one!)
I was completely blown away as I had not idea either so seeing that name on the box really surprised me!! It is a really interesting buggy with some very unique stuff going on with it. The overview video just came out going over it in more detail. It is an odd one but it is the perfect blend of odd and awesome I really enjoy!!!
Amazing! Good for you dude! I love your analysis of all the various models you get across your channel! Looking forward to see how it rides ( even if not on the track :) RC elf sharing joy again! Too cool! Cheers
Thank you! In the next video I go over it a lot more in depth as I have had time to wrap my head around it. I have gotten the decals on, the driver guy painted and that really made it come to life! The suspension is so soft I am just going to run it around in the yard so avoid the track from grinding the bottom of it up so badly! The Elf really kind find some cool kits with his magic and this is a really neat and unique one for sure!!! I cannot thank him enough!
Boy that RC Elf who ever he is certainly finds some rare and unique Kits and is extremely generous!! I knew monogram made static models had no idea they've ever made RC. Must have been like opening a time capsule back to 1987! Can't wait to see more about this one in the next video!
I feel like he must have a time machine to have found this one as it looks like it was just off the assembly line! I had no idea they made RCs, I only knew about their models and some die cast cars so this was a huge surprise! I cannot thank him enough for the amazing gift!! The follow up video will be out on Saturday, just have to finish the last bit if edits.
I would have been roughly 4 years old so awesome to see what models were back in the day I've been thinking about doing a vintage build clean down to the speed controller that was ran with a servo my father had one when I was a little boy this is what got me into the hobby and ever since he passed away I've been wanting to do a Blackfoot in his honor
That sounds like a wonderful reason to build a retro Blackfoot. The MSCs are getting harder to find these days. I ended up ordering one from eBay all the way from the UK to do my retro Lunch Box build. They can be found but not as easy and plentiful as they were a few years ago! The Blackfoot is a fun truck too! You can get the reproduction decals from MCI racing as well to make it truly correct looking.
I know right? I had no idea they ever released any RCs either. I was really shocked when I saw that name on the package! I swear the RC Elf must have gotten a time as this looks like it was just made and not from almost 40 years ago!! More on it on Saturday!!
I would’ve been distracted too, this thing is both rare, and awesome!! Super cool RC Elf, I dunno where ya find em but you always seem to find something cool..
LOL, I cut out a bunch of rambling and dead air while I was looking this one over! The next one will be a bit more focused and cohesive! it will just have the normal levels of distraction and rambling! He really can find some unique ones! I can't think him enough!
He really is and this one was a big surprise! I had no idea this even existed!! I have torn it down some to wrap my head around it and have gotten the stickers on and the driver painted which really brought it to life. In the next video on it I will go over all of that! I am waiting for a dry day to get it out for a run, as soon as it starts to dry up it rains again....
That is all I knew from Monogram was the models and few diecast cars. I had no idea they did any RCs either. It is a really interesting kit and in the next video on it I will dig into much more and show what is going on in there! The Elf really surprised me with this one!
It really is unique and on the surface looks like a hotshot clone and in some ways it is but in most they really did their own thing and some of it works really well and other they missed the mark a little. I have gotten it torn down and the driver figure painted, that made it come alive a little more and it is ready for a drive now. It keeps raining here every few days so about the time it dries out enough it starts raining again! Seems like that is going to be our weather this winter! I have 4 cars I need to make run videos for and I keep getting rained out! I will get them out as soon as I can. The update on this one will be out shortly I believe!
@@AddamsPlayground I really like kits that are "different". So many RC vehicles are basically all the same but just look a little different because of the body/layout. Say what you will, but I like the Tamiya TD4 because it is different. Sure the battery is buried but that is part of what makes it unique. Like any of the ORB chassis buggies, the Schumacher Top Cat, the Tenth Technology X11 or even the CR-01. They are not great because they are better...they are great because they are different.
@@canuckchuck8836 I will admit with the new body set from Owen at Revive RC for the TD4 it is growing on me some. I mostly hate that car from a consumer side of it. I think option parts are just that, optional. I don't think they should be almost mandatory to purchase to make it actually usable or to just get it built properly. I am usually 110% down for the odd and different but that one felt like they failed to do it right and we have to fix it for them and I am not paying more to resolve their flaws and errors in design. It is one of the very few cars I have such strong feelings for! The rest you mentioned I am all for... that TD4 still is on the naughty list for me
@@AddamsPlayground I totally understand. Mandatory optional parts for a buggy that is nearly $500CDN is a tough pill to swallow? Honestly I can't justify the cost when compared to other RC's in the same price range. That is the main reason I do not have a TD4 yet.
Nothing like a bit of a riddle when opening up a prezzy😁. That moment when you thought you knew what it was then your surprise of what it actually was.... Priceless👌😂. Thats absolutely perfect for your collection Addam. Good on you RC ELF🏆. Seeing it with its plastic wrap and even the polystyrene box is amazing, reminds me of when I was a kid. I've never heard of it before but was a great impersonation of the Hotshot, I wonder if Tamiya copied the design🤔, Hotshot was released 58047 16 April 1985 & from what I can see the Monogram Tornado was released some time in 1985 also. I'm putting my money on Tamiya being the original design. It looks like they had 2 colour options, red and yellow. Thanks for sharing your special unboxing Addam and for your infectious enthusiasm mate👍🦘🇦🇺
Yeah I would have never guessed what was under that paper! I had no idea Monogram had made RCs... I am fully confident that they borrowed this from Tamiya and it was made by Bandai so I am sure there may have been some snooping going on behind the scenes to get something so close yet so far away from the Hotshot. It really is neat and they took the other designs and put their own spin on it for sure. I will go over all that with the next video on it! There will be more on this one for sure and I have a good time figuring out all the little odd things on it!
Wow that's certainly something I've not seen before. Really interesting with the lay down shocks. I fully expect Traxxas to retrospectively bring a lawsuit against Monogram for using that idea! Very cool of the RC Elf to send you this. I wonder how it runs? Nice one Addam 🙂
Hey there Pete! I had no idea that Monogram had made RCs, so it was a pretty big shock to me! It really has some interesting designs going on with it and some design elements were certainly borrowed but they made it with their own spin on it! Some of it is really neat and some they missed the work on but it is certainly a cool little time capsule from way back when and I am waiting patiently for a dry day to run it around a little. It has a very soft suspension so I won't get too crazy with it but I am curious how well it will drive! I got the stickers on and the driver figure painted so it looks more alive and in the next video of it I will show off what makes it unique!
I didn't know they had done these. I think it was a really cool idea and you could get almost everything for it besides the chassis. If they had done a few things different it may have really done well and caught on more. There were just a few flaws in the design that hold it back from being great. I will go overt those in the next video. The stickers are on and driver is painted so it has really com to life now!
Hi Owen! I have one of you undertrays for an upcoming project! I was really glad to see you had made those so I don't wreck the bottom of that beautiful buggy! I love your new body for the TD4 also, almost enough to think I may buy one of those kits at some point, almost...( I am really not a fan of the car at all!) Anyways.. thank you and it is a very odd and unique little buggy and I have enjoyed just taking it apart a bit and seeing how it goes together! It is decaled and the driver figure painted so it really came to life after that. Almost done with the edit and it should be out on Saturday!! Take care and thanks for stopping by and checking it out!
@@AddamsPlayground Sounds like you’ve been busy completing the Tornado! wow thank you Addam! I hope you like the under tray and I’m already looking forward to seeing that episode! 😎. Ah yes the TD4 😅, thank you… it was an interesting project to do in cad rather than by hand for a change. I think the chassis handles quite well (for my skills 😄) but I will always love the quirky vintage stuff the most!!! I’m permanently subbed to your channel now thanks to Keith 👍🏻👍🏻
So awesome Addam, The RC Elf is truly a blessing! This car I believe was borrowed from the Japanese toy manufacturer Bandai of which is named the interceptor. I collect many of Bandai mech toys mainly the Sentai robots also known as the Power ranger Megazords and also their Macros toy line from the anime Macross. I’m sure you are gonna love this toy Addam!😀 congrats!
Yes it was made by Bandai! There was whole intermingling of a couple brands around this time. It is a very cool and quirky little buggy and I will have the follow up on this on Saturday. I didn't find a wealth of info on them but I do go over the buggy more in depth. I got the decals on and the driver painted so it really came alive with all that! The Elf really surprised with this one and I cannot thank him enough!!!
That is awesome. I can imagine being a kid, getting something like that, and it being the best thing ever. I heard of Monogram doing RC, but I don't think I've ever seen one. RC Elf was right, that's in between toy and hobby grade!
YES! I can only imagine the excitement of unwrapping that as a kid, it was cool as a big kid I know that! I was thinking as I was putting on the sticker on how many actually made it out for the first drive without the stickers on it! I am sure If I had gotten this as a kid and the batteries were already charged there is no way I would waste time with stickers, it would have been right outside for a rip! It is a right there in between toy an hobby grade. I was surprised on how many parts you could get for it. Basically everything but the chassis was available.
That is awesome & amazing. The RC Elf brought the suspense and excitement in one package. 🎁 Love the video. That antenna is crazy long 😂. Thanks for sharing.
I was really surprised with this one! I had no idea Monogram had ever made RCs so opening it up to see that took me by surprise! I have gotten some stuff done to it and in the next video of it I will got through some of the interesting things going on in there! They really took design ideas from others and made them their own! That antenna looks like I should have about 3.2 miles of range with it!! LOL! The thing was like a leash connected to it when I was looking it over!
This one certainly falls into the diverse category!!! It is the perfect mix of weird and awesome I really like! Lots of neat and interesting (some sketchy) stuff going in there!!
He really can find some unique stuff and I am very happy to have this one! I love the odd and unique cars and this one certainly fits that! There are a lot of cool things on here and they did some things well and some things they missed the mark on slightly. I went over it pretty well in the next vide which should be out shortly!
That is awesome!!! Haven’t seen one of those in a really long time. Our local toys r us had a great RC section with monogram, cox, and several other brands like this
That's cool, all we had was a tiny K-B Toys in the mall and then places like Sear, K-mart and Woolworth! That is why I have the soft spot for the Radio Shack cars as that i where I saw the closer to hobby grade stuff as everyone else just had toy grade things. I had never seen or even knew Monogram made any RCs. This was actually made by Bandai but more on that in the next video!
Well Addam, if I think I know you and your channel you will give us a little history lesson on this vehicle and a tutorial of it once you get a closer look in and around it. I think you will enjoy running it every once and a while. Take care my friend and stay safe. 💯💯💯💯💯🤜🤛
There is a little history and a partial teardown of the buggy! I had to dig into it and figure some stuff out about it. I also had to take some of it apart to paint the driver figure. That will all be out tomorrow!!
Thanks! I had no idea these existed! I was super shocked and it is the perfect combo of weird, odd and cool I love!! The Elf has one heck of a magical bag or a time machine seeing how this looks like it was just made!!! I have gone and torn it down some to figure some stuff out and get the driver figure painted. The decals are one and it has really come to life. In the next video I got through all of that!
You are right there, that magic bag is full of unique and wonderful things! I was really shocked to see it both in brand new condition and I never knew Monogram made any RCs, I just knew about their models and some diecast stuff they done! The next video I dig into it and get it ready to head out and run so stay tuned!
That’s such a cool vintage RC! I believe Revell models had some RC products as well. Pretty sure the Dromida line of 1/18 scale was a Revell product. These weren’t vintage though. You could still get them in 2016 I believe. Great gift from the elf!
Hrmmm I had no idea about those either, I know of them but did not know it was part of Revell! I love this hobby, I learn more and more every day and I have been farting around with this stuff for a long time now! All the great folks on here sharing stuff I am always seeing or learning about something I wasn't aware of before! This one is a cool and quirky little buggy and it is the perfect combo of odd and awesome! The update should be out on Saturday and it looks way better not with the stickers on and the driver guy painted. The Elf really surprised me with this one! I would have never guessed what was wrapped up in there!
It is a really cool and unique car, the next video goes over it much better. I have gotten it decaled, the driver painted and spent some time looking it over and taking it apart a little bit (I had to see what was in it!). I never knew Monogram had made RCs so this one was a big surprise when I opened it up! Th others they did are pretty neat looking as well!
That thing is so freaking COOL! I love the orientation of the motor. The tires look like they held up great over the years...I don't see any cracks or dents. Elf has been finding some super unique cars lately! Looking fwd to a deep dive into this buggy.
Hi Addam, the awesome RC Elf has certainly brought Xmas 2022 early to the Playground. What an awesome gentleman! Looks like Monogram really wanted a slice of the Tamiya Hotshot market back in the day, some many queues from the Tamiya. Still, looks like a great fun model to the collection. Take care and best wishes to you all 😉😊😉
He really did and it was a terrific surprise! I have torn it down and learned some stuff about it and I have gotten the decals on and driver figure painted. That really brought it to life! In the next video I will walk through some of the interesting bits on it and I am waiting for a nice, dry day to go out and do a run video. Every time it starts to dry up it rains again! I am really feeling the UK lifestyle over here these last few weeks! LOL! Take care!
@@AddamsPlayground hey, there’s a copyright issue there! Only us Brits are allowed to moan about the weather 😉😊😉😁looking forward to seeing the next episode 😉
I tell ya the RCelf REALLY knows who to send to and what to send when he does. I mean who better to send something like this too. Looks like a classic rig for sure. Great looking car and a nice addition to the fleet. Thanks for sharing it bud. BTW I know I am WAY behind. Still repairing the damage from a basement flood here. ;(
Thank you! It is a really odd and unique buggy and I love it! I really enjoyed just sitting there figuring out how it all worked and what worked well and what was a bit iffy!! In the next video I will be going over all that and you will get to see it with decals and the painted driver figure which really brings it to life! I still need a dry day to go out and drive it around a little. The Elf is amazing and really found something cool here and I am blessed he chose me to send it to! Dude, I am very sorry to hear you are dealing with that, I have never had it happen but I know others it has happened to and it is a miserable task and can be very devastating. I am so sorry you are dealing with that and I hope you are almost done with the repairs and cleanup!
It really is a blast from the past and I swear the Elf must have a time machine as this looks and feels like it was made last week! more on it coming up very soon and it is a cool and quirky little buggy, I love it!
It is a very unique and quirky little buggy! It is just the right amount odd and awesome, I love it! They really took some ideas and designs from other cars and made it their own and some of it works really well and some is on the iffy side of things! More to come in Saturday's video!
It was a real shock to see it still wrapped in the factory plastic and in perfect condition. You cannot tell that this was not not made a month ago but was really made 30 some years ago!! I only knew Monogram from their model kits and some die cast cars so that too was a shocker! I got the stickers on it and the driver figure painted which really made it come to life. The next video will be diving more in depth about it and looking at how it all works!
That car is interesting. It looks cool. I think it's interesting that the car came in a styrafoam box like some manufactures are using today. I wasn't aware of it. I googled it and there is information out there and some old RUclips videos, which you might've seen already. The RC Elf seems to know you well. You were like a kid on Christmas morning. He knew how you might react. I am interested in seeing more about it.
It was a big shock to open that up, one I had not idea what expect and two, I had not idea that Monogram had made RCs! I have since torn it down some to figure some stuff out and also have gotten the driver painted and the decals on it. It really looks good now with the details on it!! In the next vide I will go through the buggy in more detail and what I learned on it up to now. I am waiting for a dry day to take it out for a spin but it keeps rain every few days!! The Elf really surprised me well and it is the perfect kind of cool and odd I really enjoy!!
Right? All I ever knew from them was the model kits and some diecast stuff they did. I never knew RCs from them was a thing! It was a real surprise to see it and to see it was still in such great condition. You would not be able to tell this was not just made yesterday! I think the Elf may have gotten a time machine!! In the next video I dig into and show you what is going on inside!
Thank you and thanks for stopping by and checking it out. The next episode of this will be out tomorrow!! Lots of interesting and odd stuff in this one!!
They did a handful of buggies and then just stopped. Not sure if they were not selling or they got in ho water for borrowing designs! Either way this was a huge surprise to me as I had no idea they made any RCs either. I just knew them from models and few die cast cars! I have since torn it down some to figure some stuff out and also have gotten the driver painted and the decals on it. It really looks good now with the details on it!! I have definitely never heard of them it's interesting to say the least I'm interested to see it run super soft suspension and high motor will be interesting another great vid mate 👊
It was not something widely released and publicized. I think most of the advertising was done in comic books and they were sold in some US toy stores and local hobby shops. I had never heard of them making RCs, I only knew them for the model kits and a diecast cars. I have gotten the decals on ansd the driver figure painted which really made it come alive and the new video will be out soon going over the whole thing in more detail.
I mean that is the first thing I thought of when I saw those parts "what are these Swedish fish thingies?" LOL! I dug into it and in the next video I go through all that. There is some interesting things with it and they did good on some things and missed the mark a little on others. A few minor changes and it could have been a real contender and may have caught on a bit more. I think he must have made a time machine or a worm hole or something to have found this one!
Thanks! I had no idea these existed! I was super shocked and it is the perfect combo of weird and cool I love!! I have gone and torn it down some to figure some stuff out and get the driver figure painted. The decals are one and it has really come to life. In the next video I got through all of that!
Wow u get some great packages sent you 😂😊 congrats buddy 👍 your going to have to do a collection video so I can see them all 😁😉 hope ur keeping well pal 🙋♂️
I really have been blessed lately and it is truly and greatly appreciated, I cannot thank the Elf enough!!! I love this one and it is perfectly odd and unique!!! I never knew Monogram had made RCs and they really took other designs and made them totally their own! some parts well and other close but not great! The next video will be more in depth about the kit and I need a dry day when I have the time to go out and run around for a bit!! Stay tuned for more on it!
How cool it that Addam! Looks like quite a lot of inspiration from the Hotshot! Or did Tamiya used this as inspiration for the TD4 😂 Love that motor position right in the centre 😎
They definitely took ideas from other RCs and put their own spin on it and mashed it all together in this! There is some interesting stuff on it and some of it work well and then the missed the mark on a few things. It is very cool and looks much better now that t has all the decals and the driver is painted. The new video is coming up soon!
Cool car Addam, I had a couple of MRC Road Winners a year or so back on the channel and they share the same chassis gearbox/motor layout only real difference is the body shell and suspension set up , the basic platform was used by several Manufacturers /distributors i can’t remember all the names though sorry. Can’t wait for more :)
Yeah I saw that was in the family of all of these cars. I think it was made by Bandai as well like this one. There was also a Mad Wolf the was both a Bandai and Monogram car. Lots of intermingling of all these around this time it seems! It is a very interesting and odd little buggy. They did some cool things and some stuff that was almost cool but kind of a fail! More on it on Saturday!
Looking for to more Addam :) I converted mine to hobby grade electronics as well , well I’m pretty sure I did , did it for reliability more than anything
That is cool! I never knew (or don't remember) that Monogram had released any RC cars. I haver always known them for the models and some die cast cars over the years.
Thanks Martin, it really is a unique buggy! I never knew that Monogram had made RCs, I only knew them from their model kits and some diecast cars. It was a real shock to see that name on the box and to see it still wrapped and in pristine condition after all these years! I am pretty sure that the RC Elf has a time machine now! I cannot thank him enough and more will come on it very soon!
Right?!?!? It is a really unique design and I will go over all that in the next video, now that I have had time to wrap my little brain around it. I have the decals on and the driver painted and I am just waiting on a dry day to get out and run it around a little.
Monogram's monogram is trademarked so I cannot share it! LOL! It is a very neat buggy and if they had just modified a few things in the suspension geometry and the way the motor mounts it could have been a very competent buggy. They way it was made had some flaws that severely limited it.
It’s a cool and somewhat unique looking car. Thanks for some of the details. What’s trippy to me is I was just looking at one of these on eBay a couple of days ago. I love the vintage RC’s but kind of draw the line at collecting non-hobby grade RC’s. That being said, this looks hobby grade for it’s time…is it not?
It really is a unique one as they took design elements from others cars and put their own spin on it!! It really falls in between the toy and hobby grade but see as you could order all but the chassis I think it qualifies as hobby grade. It is basically a RTR and you could get almost every part of the car from them at the time so I feel like it is not different than what Traxxas is now! I got the driver painted up and the stickers on now and it really brought it to life! The next video I will go over it in more detail I will be getting it out for a drive as soon as I can get a dry day where I have time to run it!
@@AddamsPlayground That’s one of the things that surprised me, was that it is rebuildable. From the box art, the first thing that popped out to me, and kind of turned me off from the car was the riveted front shock assembly that just screams “TOY”. But your video has me warming up to it again. I’m Really looking forward to the next video. It’s funny that you mention Traxxas. I own a couple but I’m a sucker for the Hawk and Sledgehammer. But what kind of throws me off on those older trucks, that you don’t really see on other RC’s from the time, is the serialized sticker on the chassis. I don’t know if they only did this for the RTR’s (I think both those trucks came as kit or RTR) but that sticker makes me think “toy”
@@jack-o-trades Actually the front shocks and pivot arms are on removeable pins, So the whole thing can come apart is needed, They are flat topped pins with E-clips holding them in place. It does appear more toy like than it is is. I miss my Sledgehammer and wish I had never sold that truck. I am sucker for those white nylon chassis and arms!! I also loved the goofy wiggle waggle of the body on those spring mounted body posts! I do think the serial numbered chassis were a thing on both the kits and the RTRs but I am pretty sure they have gone away from that. I am pretty sure my oldest Rustler has the sticker on it and it was an RTR and I know my Stampede that was a kit has it on there.
Monogram usually makes static models but I didn't know that they had it all a RC car that's new in box that's a rare car wish I was sent some rare cars. 😁
Thank you, I appreciate it! I will stop by and check your channel out when I get home tonight! The update for this one will be out on Saturday when I dig into it a bit deeper and see what works well and what is a bit iffy!
RC ELF did it again. That is awesome to see RC ELF to make you a happy person.
@@AddamsPlayground RC ELF is real elf. Hahaha
@@jdpaslRC he is certainly real magic!!
That is way cool Addam congrats the Elf is awesome
It is a very interesting kit and I spent a good while just sitting there soaking it all in! I didn't even know Monogram had done RCs in the past, I only knew them from the models and some diecast cars. I have the decals on and the driver pained which made it really come alive and trying to find a dry day to take it out for a light run! The Elf really has dug deep into the magic mag to find this one!
Christmas came early to the Playground! Elf is awesome!
Wow, cool RC, great gift from the RC Elf, can't wait to see it running
I dug into it the other day and have gotten the driver painted and I just need to get it out for a light drive but it keeps raining every couple days so as soon as it dries up it starts raining again! I will get it out shortly! RC Elf is full of wonderful surprises!
@@AddamsPlayground aweome,and yes he is
I remember kits like that, with the squeaky polystyrene, I also think that he got hold of wrapping paper from 1986 also 😅🤣😂
Yes, there are still styrofoam balls floating around all over out there!
Once again...what a cool find!!! Cheers to the R/C Elf!!
It really is a cool buggy, very unique design and interesting stuff going on. I am working on the editing of the next video for it where I go through it a bit more and get the painting and decals done. It looks way cooler now! The Elf really surprised me with this one!!! I had no idea these even existed!
You could find these in Chicago Hobby Shops in the 1980’s and 90’s. Cool find… RC Elf. Be very careful with that plastic Addam…. It will snap.
What a cool looking car the rc elf is always coming up with some cool stuff from the pass he is the best

Really cool buggy, cant remember that i have seen that one before. RC Elf knows what gifts to choose.

Awesome job RC Elf..
Looking forward to see how it rides ( even if not on the track :)
RC elf sharing joy again! Too cool! Cheers

Wow! I’ve built Monogram model kits before but I never knew they made an rc before. Awesome gift!👍😊

Wow man! That car is bonkers! I am looking forward to the deeper dive to see all of its uniqueness.
I've never heard of it before but was a great impersonation of the Hotshot, I wonder if Tamiya copied the design🤔,
Hotshot was released 58047 16 April 1985 & from what I can see the Monogram Tornado was released some time in 1985 also.
@@AddamsPlayground
Yeh so much interesting history to dig up on this one Addam, I'm as usual looking forward to more mate😁👍
That's neat! I knew monogram made RC's but never seen one like this or never thought they would make one like almost hobby grade.
Very cool retro buggy Addam! Looking forward to part 2 👌🏻👍🏻
Hi Owen! I have one of you undertrays for an upcoming project! I was really glad to see you had made those so I don't wreck the bottom of that beautiful buggy! I love your new body for the TD4 also, almost enough to think I may buy one of those kits at some point, almost...( I am really not a fan of the car at all!)
Anyways.. thank you and it is a very odd and unique little buggy and I have enjoyed just taking it apart a bit and seeing how it goes together! It is decaled and the driver figure painted so it really came to life after that. Almost done with the edit and it should be out on Saturday!!
Love the video. That antenna is crazy long 😂.

Great stuff! Happy to see the collection get more diverse!
This one certainly falls into the diverse category!!! It is the perfect mix of weird and awesome I really like! Lots of neat and interesting (some sketchy) stuff going in there!!
RC Elf made bull eye this is the thing you are looking for. Good for you and enjoy. Ciao Nanni
Cool car I remember my buddy had one when we were young.
Pretty cool bro. Never Seen one if those before. Rc Elfs magic bag has some cool stuff in it👍
You are right there, that magic bag is full of unique and wonderful things!
Very cool!! I saw a Tornado in our hobby store around ‘88.
@@AddamsPlayground Awesome,, looking forward to the update!!!
That thing is so freaking COOL! I love the orientation of the motor. The tires look like they held up great over the years...I don't see any cracks or dents. Elf has been finding some super unique cars lately! Looking fwd to a deep dive into this buggy.
It is very unique and looks and feels like it was made last week!! I had no idea Monogram even made RCs! The follow-up video will be out tomorrow!!
@@AddamsPlayground Nice!
@@JF-RC LoL yes, I am sorry. I don't mind the weather but it is hard to find time to run the cars in this stuff. Works great for building though!
Nice like a Christmas Time Capsule
It really is a blast from the past and I swear the Elf must have a time machine as this looks and feels like it was made last week! more on it coming up very soon and it is a cool and quirky little buggy, I love it!
Cool buggy ! I do remember seeing these in comic books back in the day, but never saw one in person. Longitudinally mounted motor like the Coyote..
It is a very unique and quirky little buggy! It is just the right amount odd and awesome, I love it! They really took some ideas and designs from other cars and made it their own and some of it works really well and some is on the iffy side of things! More to come in Saturday's video!
What another awesome time capsule Addam! I never knew that Monogram made rc’s!👍😊
Very interesting
It really is an odd one. Check out the most recent video of it, lots of interesting stuff going on in there!
Wow, I did t know Monogram made RC cars. I’ve only heard of them through scale models. Very cool addition to the collection
Bravo pour ce magnifique épisode a bientôt j'espère GG
Thank you and thanks for stopping by and checking it out. The next episode of this will be out tomorrow!! Lots of interesting and odd stuff in this one!!
Wow, never knew Monogram put out a RC car. I built many of there models. I'll have to look that up. That's cool.
In the next video I will go through the buggy in more detail and what I learned on it up to now. I am waiting for a dry day to take it out for a spin but it keeps rain every few days!!
“Red fish things” 😂😂😂 thats super cool! Excited for the next part video, intriguing! Mr Elf where did you find this!?!? Excellent work mr Elf
I think he must have made a time machine or a worm hole or something to have found this one!
very cool
Cool car Addam, I had a couple of MRC Road Winners a year or so back on the channel and they share the same chassis gearbox/motor layout only real difference is the body shell and suspension set up , the basic platform was used by several
Manufacturers /distributors i can’t remember all the names though sorry.
Looking for to more Addam :) I converted mine to hobby grade electronics as well , well
I’m pretty sure I did , did it for reliability more than anything
Lightning was a hornet knock off and was the most popular
Yeah I noticed on the drawing it looked a little similar!
That was built right near my house in Illinois.
That is cool! I never knew (or don't remember) that Monogram had released any RC cars. I haver always known them for the models and some die cast cars over the years.
Well that’s interesting 👍
Thanks Martin, it really is a unique buggy! I never knew that Monogram had made RCs, I only knew them from their model kits and some diecast cars. It was a real shock to see that name on the box and to see it still wrapped and in pristine condition after all these years! I am pretty sure that the RC Elf has a time machine now! I cannot thank him enough and more will come on it very soon!
What a cool little car mate! Like you say, very hotshot vibes, what’s not to like?
Right?!?!? It is a really unique design and I will go over all that in the next video, now that I have had time to wrap my little brain around it. I have the decals on and the driver painted and I am just waiting on a dry day to get out and run it around a little.
What is monogram's monogram lol
This looks very cool for what it is
Monogram's monogram is trademarked so I cannot share it!
Maybe you can get four oilfill dampers from the hot shot.
Monogram usually makes static models but I didn't know that they had it all a RC car that's new in box that's a rare car wish I was sent some rare cars. 😁
I had no idea they made RC cars either.
I hope you build it and run it and do a track time.
no track, it will get all ground up on scraping the bottom on the track
@@AddamsPlayground nooo😂
Cool video dude! i also post rc content and man let me tell you its so much fun ! i liked and subscribed by the way !
Thank you, I appreciate it! I will stop by and check your channel out when I get home tonight! The update for this one will be out on Saturday when I dig into it a bit deeper and see what works well and what is a bit iffy!
@@AddamsPlayground cool and thanks !
Nooo track run if you have to get oil filled on it 😆
nope, not changing anything with it
I think you're rivaling what he sent me entirely.
Too bad those aren't oil filled but at least it's cantilever.
The rears work pretty well and are smooth, the fronts they got the geometry a little wrong and they are way too soft.
I hate exploded diagrams what sense can you make out of them.
It is better than nothing.
