I just reversed it up on to the ramps, it can be a little tricky as you have to keep the power on as you reverse up them, and be very quick on the brakes at the top. If your car does not run I would recommend using axle stands rather than ramps, but this would allow you to remove the rear wheel on the crank pulley side and remove the wheel arch liner, this makes access to the annoying nut for the upper alternator bolt a lot easier. I also recommend changing the water pump whilst doing this job, my water pump gave out 3 days later be careful with belt tension too there is a harmonic tool you are supposed to use but you can use the twist method to determine tension.
@@byronbaird7395 does yours have A/c or not? It's a little easier as you can get it from the top in no A/c versions, however I just used a spanner on mine it is very tight to get from the underside, but the biggest challenge will be the nut on the back side of the alternator it's a challenge to get back in place
Unfortunately no, that car had a few issues that put a stop to continuing with that particular car, however I still have the M111 stroker build, I've just been held up on that due to money and parts availability but hope to get back on track with that soon.
@@M-oneeleven-M111 okej i have one slk 230 -98 aut so if i needs parts do think you can help me ? Here in Sweden its hard to find i m not good with English so.i hope you understand what i means 👍 Thomas
Note the Torx head on the alternator tensioner adjutment should NOT be turned, it;s just a stud. Only undo the 15mm Nut so its loose. The Bracket does come out with it AFAIK.
Not on this model the starter is on the gearbox side and alternator on the auxiliary belt side, unfortunately if the starter fails on a W450 (this shape) it's a fairly involved job to change it
Thanks for the video, I managed to get it done with some help from my 27 year old daughter and her small hands 😅
It's definitely not a job for big hands , well done it is a challenge definitely thank you for watching 🙏
wow well done what a job
Du hast mein Leben gerettet, mein Freund Vielen Dank
Do you need a jack to put it on the ramps or do you just lift it up by the bumper?

Absolutely not true. You can unscrew it without a problem.
Is this een alternator with starter in 1

Well done - an awkward job.
Thank you... Absolutely, but I for sure recommend replacing the waterpump too when doing this that jobs even more awkward.
