- Gingerbread Houses! A family tradition since I was a child, it is something we look forward to every Christmas season. It is so much fun sitting together as a family, listening to some Christmas music, and building and decorating our gingerbread houses. This family favorite tradition was something we were determined to keep while living overseas. Join us as we keep the tradition alive and celebrate the season together!
About us: Just over one year ago, after a long time of hoping, dreaming, and planning, we sold or gave away almost everything we owned and left the United States to begin our journey with four children as an expat family. We moved to Leipzig, Germany, a beautiful city in the state of Saxony. This is our story.

Ok, ok. I know that Gingerbread houses originated in Germany. But this is still a favorite tradition that we brought here with us, even if we stole it from Germany. I will say this though, it is much easier to find Gingerbread house kits and Christmas themed candy to decorate with in the States. Either that, or we didn't know the right place to look here. But... The actual gingerbread for the houses is sooooooo much more delicious here! Thank you, Germany!

The gingerbread house goes back to Grimm's fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel".
Hopefully you got permission from the Building Inspectorate to build these houses; otherwise you'll have to demolish those buildings again... - or just eat. 😜

Yes, I did read that and realized that was the reason they are called Hexenhaus. And don't worry, the demolition has already begun, and it's quite delicious.
