I get not being afraid of ghosts, but especially out in the woods there can be people and animals that definitely *can* hurt/kill you.
@@georgiasoaps i will say that as someone who used to live literally 5 minutes from goatman's bridge, its actually right next to a suburban area, with the trail itself being a public-access greenbelt. there's lot of small critters that hang around there, like rabbits, armadillos, and even deer, that are all even more active at night. so, i doubt there was anything malicious out there haha. needless to say, i do agree that its really impressive shane is QUITE unbothered even by old dilapidated places where people died horrifically, i dont get how hes so chill about it LOL
about halfway through watching this episode, I kept noticing lots of strange noises that Shane and Ryan weren't reacting to and I started to get really confused because the sounds were very distinct and some of them lined up with prompts that they were saying. but then i realized that the sounds weren't actually coming from the video at all - they were coming from my own home. my cat, who was sitting with me while watching, noticed at the same time, so we went downstairs to investigate. turns out a small flying squirrel made it's way down my chimney and was running around in my fireplace, making all sorts of strange noises. the squirrel is safe and has been release back outside :)
I honestly don't get why so many people are upset at the dynamics change from unsolved to ghost files, expecially this season, I always see people complaining. 1) You can't expect people to remain the same, even with beliefs, especially when said belief gets disputed or at least less scary over time 2) When people say they aren't taking the locations or ghost hunting seriously enough or that there are too many jokes I always think about the goatman's bridge's episode, literally one of the most quoted and iconic and still the least serious episode of them all 3) Would you prefer fake episodes, where you get lied to and Ryan puts on the act of the scaredy cat when he clearly isn't anymore? Maybe it's because I find it comforting to see that even if ghosts were real they're most likely not interested in communicating or in general not dangerous. And I think I already got my take about it and now I just enjoy getting along for the ride, not really expecting anything and if something unexpected is to happen I would enjoy it even more. Idk, I really dislike when people get all nostalgic when people change, these aren't TV series characters, real people change, and it's endearing being able to witness it Edit: to anyone saying I'm projecting or some bullshit, it's just that I see these videos literally when they come out. And I react to what I see in the comments. It's not my fault y'all's come a day later and the comments are far lower down in the section
This is a perfectly rationale take but it’s incorrect from the POV of content and entertainment. People expected one thing when they watch something. Now they aren’t getting that thing. There’s nothing wrong with not being satisfied with that. Obviously there’s a limit to that which I think you are trying to capture. But It’s also not your place to “dislike” when someone’s expectations aren’t met when those expectations haven’t changed. Thats their own right. And is reasonable. The entertainment value was watching a grown man who believed in ghost be genuinely afraid. In the intro the show is sold as “a skeptic” and “a believer”. How are you not seeing that is no longer what’s on the table? And why that changes the dynamics dramatically? Now it’s two grown men not afraid of things we know dont exist. How interesting does that sound? It’s why other shows I won’t name have been on for +15 years. Thanks to a little thing called “kayfabe”. So in a way, yes. I do think ppl might want them to “fake it” to a degree. If the alternative is two grown adults bull shitting around for an hour neither one a believer, there’s no contrast. That was THE ENTIRE point. Ppl know other shows “fake it” to a degree and they are still entertaining. Bc therein lies the objective and show- to entertain. I don’t think ppl find it particularly entertaining one of them not as afraid. Hence why Shane keeps stressing “take it seriously”. It’s on brand when Shane makes a mockery of the investigation. Both doing it just makes it an hour long piss take is what I think ppl mean when you see them “upset”. To be clear, that’s not my position. But it’s incredibly easy to see why people think that. I have a totally different take on this but you seemed to truly not understand so I’m simply providing the objection I think you’d genuinely be open to hearing.
Ryan having a panic attack over a ghost thud and all the equipment breaking simultaneously while Shane talks about the nice plaque is very on brand for both of them

native montanan here- the deerlodge prison is something we're all weirdly knowledgeable about lol we want everyone who visits to know about it, despite all the crazy atrocities and humanitarian issues. apart from it being a museum now, there is also a very cool haunted house/tour held here every year through october that takes you through the entire prison, and you can also pay to spend a night in the prison if you're a ghost hunter or just sociopathic. this one episode will probably carry the tourism industry of montana on its back for the next five years tbh thank you shane and ryan for visiting!
i kind of miss the bits where Ryan & Shane share their thoughts on pieces of evidence they would catch. it was one of my favorite bits cause the back and forth were hilarious.
I second this. Also, in the unsolved episodes their dynamic is different. Ryan is the one who's genuinely scared while Shane is the one making jokes and pranking Ryan, their chemistry is the one that carried the show but now they are both goofing at the same time, Shane is not annoyed by the spirit box anymore, Ryan is not genuinely terrified as he used to and the gadgets they used are simpler yet it brings better reaction for both of them. I felt like there's something missing, maybe I'm just missing the old formula.
@@frozenlicks maybe because they have done ghost hunting for many years now Ryan is not as afraid as he was before? Which is understandable, during their first few years ghost hunting with Buzzfeed Unsolved, they were just starting out, still fairly new to the experience. But they've been ghost hunting for so long now, and when you have been doing the same thing over & over again for many years, it becomes repetitive, naturally you can become so accustomed to it that it doesn't phase you as much as before. I'm sure Ryan is still scared of ghosts & spirits overall, but he is so used to ghost hunting by now that changes in his behavior is inevitable. Same goes for Shane. Their antics are still fun to watch, but you can't expect their behaviors to be exactly the same as they were many years ago when they were still basically beginners, they are alot more experienced now.
Shane's right, they are different. Ghosts are the disembodied soul or spirit of someone who's passed on. Zombies are reanimated bodie's who's souls have moved on. So technically, someone could be a ghost and a zombie at the same time.

I’ve been to eastern state penitentiary as well! Same weather too. I have a deep respect for the souls who remain there. The place is absolutely astonishing.
yeah. people might be surprised about what is around them in some locations if they weren't so busy either being awed by the chance of ghosts or overly creeped out by the uncanny valley type setting most of these types of things take place in. Ironically the most "disturbed" I have felt has not been in some old building or ruin. it was in a brand new hospital wing jsut before it opened up for use. I was one of the first to go in there for actual reasons. and it was all overly pristine and ready to go but there was nobody in the hallways or anything. nothing was decrepit, the smell of fresh paint and disinfectant lingered. All that was missing were people. There was no history there for the wing to be haunted yet or anything. but that feeling like it is so close to normal but it was just that tiny bit off that made it feel weird at the time and made me aware and got me kind of looking at things a bit differently. Particularly empty buildings.
love everything about this episode. literally state-sponsored, got absolutely off the rails at the end ("i covered that place with me" "you covered it with YOU?" "spiritually"), ryan shit-talking the ghosts in his solo, pretty much no evidence except for that one spirit box saying "eight" i love this
@@mozes88 Can't imagine its not decreased. For debrief: Do you think everyone becomes a ghost or just people with particularly tragic history? If so, what do you think the threshold is to be tragic enough to qualify for Ghost-dom?
If everyone became a ghost, there would be hauntings all over the damn place. It would be insane. And the ones that do become a ghost... We don't even know if they were ever a person at all. Could be residual haunting or something we haven't even thought of. If they actually were people trapped in a house they would act absolutely insane - but ghosts don't. Their actions don't suggest this at all. Even the "demonic" ones don't go anywhere near as insane as someone would if they were trapped inside a house forever, so the theory is weak. People always act like they have ghosts figured out when we don't have any idea what they are, it's just a phenomena we can't explain.
the running theme seems to be "unfinished business" or you don't know you're dead. Maybe there's even an aspect of how "bad" of a person you were? Is there some bureaucracy in the afterlife? Ghost DMV wait times must be insane
I think that each of us has a soul or spirit, and that ghosts are those spirits that get trapped in a parallel dimension and can sometimes perceive and interact with ours. I loved in this episode the example of fingers poking through two hands like a ghost poking through. 👻

Legit what I was thinking towards the end of the episode, this season I feel like not much of anything has happened
@jazzo.-. right like mostly everything, if not literally everything😭, has been simple and explainable stuff; tho I don't really mind, i think it just further cements that ghost files is a genuine ghost hunting show with no theatrics and fake evidence
Which makes the fact that they are still entertaining that much more impressive 😄
@1etira01 right like even tho not much has been happening for these past few episodes I'm still always waiting on the edge of my seat every Friday with my little snack ready and everything
The banging was pretty spooky tho
as much as i don’t believe in ghosts, i would still be spooked in the dark by myself. impressive as usual with how completely unbothered shane is
My biggest fear if I went on a ghost hunt is that I would encounter a living human who attempts to kill me. Like a serial killer or something
Well, you see, Shane is a demon. So, he need not fear; for he is far darker
@@averythesuperhero Agreed. My thoughts exactly.
@@averythesuperhero that's why I think Shane is unhinged (don't get me wrong, I love him for it, but he's kind of crazy), in the goatman episode he was completely unbothered by noises they heard in the woods at night in the middle of nowhere.

Simular thing happened to me with a bird years ago when I was watching unsolved lmao, what a crazy coincidence
As a new teacher, I really resonated with Ryan’s reaction to Shane immediately breaking the 30 seconds of quiet.
To be fair Shane feels like he is hunting the spaghetti monster. Hard for him to be serious
I was going to say its like getting my four year olds to settle down for rest after lunch lol
I honestly don't get why so many people are upset at the dynamics change from unsolved to ghost files, expecially this season, I always see people complaining.
1) You can't expect people to remain the same, even with beliefs, especially when said belief gets disputed or at least less scary over time
2) When people say they aren't taking the locations or ghost hunting seriously enough or that there are too many jokes I always think about the goatman's bridge's episode, literally one of the most quoted and iconic and still the least serious episode of them all
3) Would you prefer fake episodes, where you get lied to and Ryan puts on the act of the scaredy cat when he clearly isn't anymore?
Maybe it's because I find it comforting to see that even if ghosts were real they're most likely not interested in communicating or in general not dangerous. And I think I already got my take about it and now I just enjoy getting along for the ride, not really expecting anything and if something unexpected is to happen I would enjoy it even more. Idk, I really dislike when people get all nostalgic when people change, these aren't TV series characters, real people change, and it's endearing being able to witness it
Edit: to anyone saying I'm projecting or some bullshit, it's just that I see these videos literally when they come out. And I react to what I see in the comments. It's not my fault y'all's come a day later and the comments are far lower down in the section
Preach!
well said
the thing is the do spend long time in these locations and remain quiet we just see the best bits as they already stated
I always figured to take this as a comedy rather than a “real” ghost hunting show. I watch for the dynamics of both people
Ryan having a panic attack over a ghost thud and all the equipment breaking simultaneously while Shane talks about the nice plaque is very on brand for both of them

I agree with that. Maybe Buzzfeed patented the concept of listening to stuff later 😁
@@iamsnehanairi feel like they're more focused on being entertaining than the investigation now
I second this.
So technically, someone could be a ghost and a zombie at the same time.

yeah. people might be surprised about what is around them in some locations if they weren't so busy either being awed by the chance of ghosts or overly creeped out by the uncanny valley type setting most of these types of things take place in.

@@mozes88 Can't imagine its not decreased.
