Love that Ryan and Shane casually forgot that after World War I, the was an entire *revolution* and upheaval of the Russian government, meaning that a government funded expedition into a remote and sparsely inhabited area was MAYBE not a top priority for a while.
Technically the revolution happened *after* World War 1, but Russia was also kinda mired in a number of smaller wars at the time, especially when it came to Poland and Ukraine (ironically enough). That and Russia was ruled by a Czar so scientific ventures were not *exactly* top priority back then. Though also love how they forget that Siberia is an absolute hellish Tundra to get through. So it more than makes sense that their pace was slowed to a crawl.
Well there was also the civil war, they fought from Europe all the way to the far eastern coast along the siberian pacific. Which makes me wonder if they ever fought at the impact site

As to how long it took them to get there - remember that this is Siberia, and this is the early 1900s. There were no roads to where they were going, no towns, nothing but forests and bogs and only a few months of the year that they could travel without getting snowed in. And they had to carry everything they needed - food, scientific instruments, tents and such, mostly on pack horses. This wasn’t a casual sight-seeing trip, this was an expedition into the wilderness.
Honestly it also makes sense that an expedition wasn't launched until _after_ the Russian Revolution and civil war. The Tsar was never really known for being big on scientific inquiry.
@@bridgetdunleavy3549 which is funny because I'm pretty sure in their families: Ryan has a younger brother, Shane has an older brother, and Steven is "the middle child"

There’s so many bizarre mysteries out there, glad Shane and Ryan are exploring outside of murder/crime. I love Shane’s presenting style and think it’s hilarious that in the first episode, Ryan kept heckling Shane about needing to write stuff down, but when he’s the “student,” he barely scribbles anything down, and what he does right is random.
This series has the MOST sibling energy,,, (well, it's tied with Too Many Spirits where there are 3 siblings and one friend over for a sleepover instead) I love it 😭
okay here's the real question: who's the friend on TMS? lol because I feel like Steven or Ricky could be the friend in this situation, depending on how you look at it
@@sethescope it's definitely Ricky. Steven, Ryan, and Shane all have sibling energy while Ricky is most definitely that one friend who's friends with them all (well...maybe not all the time in Steven's case). They're too nice to Ricky lol
I'm surprised Shane didn't mention what I feel like is the most probable theory of all: That the meteor exploded in the air just above the epicenter, similarly to the way the nuclear bombs exploded at Nagasaki and Hiroshima. That explains why there's no impact crater and why the trees at the center were left debarked but standing. Again, similar to how trees at the epicenter of the nuclear blasts were left. To me, the airburst theory has always seemed like the most likely explanation for the event.
I agree. And the Chelyabinsk meteor, which we have video of exploding over Russia, is pretty good evidence that it at least is something that can happen.
@@FruityKoala If the meteor had a lot of ice in it, the heat from passing through the atmosphere could have caused it to flash vaporize, exploding the meteor like an overpressurized water boiler.
I was thinking about this the entire time. They even mentioned that it broke up and never hit the ground. There are just so many pointers to this theory.
I love how Shane’s peanut butter metaphor actually works. He takes the part of the video most people kinda zone out-the numbers and statistics-and captures our attention by restating the peanut butter bit.
"I've never held one of these before. Except for that one time." Yep, that one hurt my soul. But I love the peanut butter gag, the two of them constantly using the air burst simulator on each other. It's absolutely hilarious, especially when Ryan aimed for Shane's Balls. Also, I've heard about this event many times before. It's actually a major part of the plot of the game, _Destroy All Humans 2._
The great thing is they both like random things. It’s so nice to have a friend listen to you enraptured by whatever your current random weird obsession is. My friends listen politely when there’s some story that I find utterly fascinating but they really just don’t care. 😅
I don't think I'm alone in this, but even if I am: Mystery Files is very much a comforting series for me (all Ryan and Shane stuff is for me, but this format is very, very good). I would watch another full season of this if they chose to make another, with no hesitation. I'd probably watch it as many times over as I have this season. I don't think they will now that Ghost hunting is back in session, but hey, one can dream.
As a science student, I think I got too focused on the science to properly enjoy the mystery and whimsy of this episode, but I'm really happy to see the boys changing it up and exploring mysteries beyond true crime! I'm really excited for the rest of this season (and hopefully more to come)!
Fr, Pre-Watcher's Just-A-Mystery show and it's two series, Just-A-Mystery Supernatural and Just-A-Mystery True Crime, were very enjoyable and it's satisfying to see them continue the fun times under their own terms and brand.
they banter like schoolboys and it’s just such a joy to watch. that in between this episode’s host Shane’s professor-like way of presenting the subject really makes for wonderful comedy. amazing episode as always, gents!

I absolutely love that this show allows Shane to share stories too! With Unsolved, Ryan was always taking the lead, which was great, but Shane’s unhinged and funny approach to this was so great. Happy fan!
The directing and camerawork in this is fantastic! When Shane's not addressing the camera, it feels like a TV show where Ryan and Shane are playing characters of themselves... I dig it. 👍
Yessss I love that this concept allows them to switch places as the narrator/the listener, it's a really interesting change of pace and allows for a wider range too, as they both have very different ways of telling stories (which I both really enjoy), kudos to the one who pitched that idea it's great !
Debrief: Was Shane just trying to remind himself to buy peanut butter later or had he just eaten some? This was the real mystery to me throughout the episode
Not sure if you’ll see this, Shane, but I just wanted you to know that after my fiancé broke up with me 6 months before our wedding over text, I did the only sensible thing and bought a Professor plush, who has now become my emotional support plush, along with watching old episodes of Puppet History, that has helped get me through the past couple months. He would be fun as a teacher
The logo for this series is maybe the most perfect example of branding I’ve ever seen I love it sooooo much
when shane stands in front of the projector around 21:44 the light makes it look like he’s wearing teeny tiny shorts
The fact that he gives that speech with the "short shorts" is soo funny!! 🩲
Omg I was literally thinking that exact same thing lol XD
Or no pants and really tall orange stockings, depending on how you look at it
If Shane taught something at college, I would have still not graduated but I sure as hell wouldn't miss a single lesson.
Dang nothing has been more relatable then this statement
Ryan truly encapsulating that hostage energy with that frantic "you don't have to do this!!!" Not only was this man kept captive for whole seasons by the Professor, Shane is doing it now too 😞 #FreeRyan
I stand by this movement #FreeRyan
i have this crazy theory that shane and the professor are the same person
@@flori7246 sounds unbelievable to me tbh
@@flori7246 nah that's way too far fetched

Shane: IMAGINE a jar of peanut butter going 33,500mph
Ryan: okay-
Shane: now the asteroid is heavy, now IMAGINE 220million of those JARS-
Ryan: okay that’s even harder to imagine-
Shane: NOW IMAGINE THE PEANUT BUTTER BEING 44,500 DEGREES-
Ryan: uh sounds tasty ig-
The peanut butter analogy really helped me, thanks Shane!
@@theideaofevil It would be nice if they gave a little bit of historical context
Also, absolutely massive mosquito swarms. Just so many mosquitoes according to everyone who's done fieldwork in the region.
I appreciate the acknowledgement that Shane predicted the pandemic. 2020. Humanity is gonna go through some stuff
when did he do that?? I can't find it😢
@@Leah-yu5gd one of the buzzfeed unsolved episodes

I love Shane's way of presenting with his funny sound effects and reactions and all. I'd love to have him as a professor in University
As a little brother of 7 boys, the big brother, little brother energy between Shane and Ryan gets me every time
I know right 😊
Who's the older and who's the younger?
I'd say they switch between younger when they are presenting and older when they are sitting 😂😂😂
@@angelinastudies imo Shane has older brother vibes, Ryan’s the long-suffering middle child and Steven’s the baby
@@bridgetdunleavy3549 which is funny because I'm pretty sure in their families: Ryan has a younger brother, Shane has an older brother, and Steven is "the middle child"
Ryan getting freaked out and giggling over a wind gun is the highlight of my day.
I screamed at how good Shane’s pronunciation of “Krasnoyarskiy Krai” was! Really so nice to hear someone pronouncing Russian cities properly
He’s got Eastern Europe in his heritage, so it makes sense.

I'm so glad that Shane will be presenting as well because we get gems like the Referentially Useless Peanut Butter Jar, "One Big Bitch," the RUPBJ again, "and probably some squirrels and shit," and Ryan begging for his life vs. Shane with an air blaster.
I was a bit confused on how big the astroid was, but when Shane compared it to peanut butter jars, it made complete sense.
I love that they flip back and forth with their presentations ❤️
shane being the main lead and ryan being in the backseat is surprisingly giving this concept a breath of fresh air
19:09 i love how someone behind the scenes is laughing too hahahhaha
omg i love this duo
it was so funny i enjoyed it alot
thanks to this duo and the team for putting this together :)
Truly feels like friends hanging out in a basement telling each other wild stories. I love this series so far.
The best friend energy in this episode is off the charts. Also I laughed way too hard when Shane said one of the locals was based.
Oo that is clever
That’s what I was thinking but how does an asteroid just explode? Break off into little pieces sure but not explode
There are just so many pointers to this theory.
love how in the intro Shane called him his ''colleague Ryan'' but the little sign underneath said ''Shane's friend'' like you can't fool us
after having seen all these blast shenanigans, i now propose to cross out both colleague and friend and replace them with brother
@@headlesszebra9857I second that proposal
19:05 Always love when Shane says something so ridiculous he makes the crew laugh.
Yep, these are some great moments.
I love that game.
That air burst bucket was great.
Shane's reaction of 'this is fine' and then the "OOF" when Ryan aimed lower 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
This feels less like a mystery and more like Shane went down a deep dive of Wikipedia and just really wanted to tell Ryan about this event.
It's what it says in the decription
He did find lots of information I'd never heard of, and I'm familiar with the Tunguska Event.
@@russianbot7875 oh lol it goes to show I have never read a description for a video ever

Hey I feel the same way they are comforting . I don’t think RUclipsrs know how much help they are in certain lonely times.
I love the dynamic of Shane and Ryan presenting each other with different mysteries in each video! So excited to see what else this series does!
Shane's russian is actually not bad! When he said "krasnoyarskii krai" I almost choked on my tea because I didn't expect it to be that good😂
аххахахаха да!!
"Imagine a Jar of Peanut Butter, and imagine it flying at 33,500 miles per hour."
Yep, immediate banger.
As a science student, I think I got too focused on the science to properly enjoy the mystery and whimsy of this episode, but I'm really happy to see the boys changing it up and exploring mysteries beyond true crime! I'm really excited for the rest of this season (and hopefully more to come)!
The boys seem very into science these days!
I’m soooooo glad that we finally have a (redacted) true crime alternative. Especially now that it’s something that you guys OWN
Fr, Pre-Watcher's Just-A-Mystery show and it's two series, Just-A-Mystery Supernatural and Just-A-Mystery True Crime, were very enjoyable and it's satisfying to see them continue the fun times under their own terms and brand.
they banter like schoolboys and it’s just such a joy to watch. that in between this episode’s host Shane’s professor-like way of presenting the subject really makes for wonderful comedy. amazing episode as always, gents!
That Rodney Dangerfield look Shane gets at 6:54 gets me 😂
This channel's content has somehow hit that magical spot where high production value, interesting and unique topics, well done research and heart meets and results in chaotic harmony. Well done guys!
I dig it. 👍
honestly the "is it solved or is it-… a mystery" is such a great catchphrase for the new format and era
Not that you’d be interested in the Professor for any particular reason. There’s no close connection there, of course.
Ryan urgently telling Shane to not predict the asteroid impact in the next 20 years and then following it with the fact that Shane predicted the pandemic is exactly what I needed today. 😂😂😂
The only duo that can actually each play both roles and still be equally as interesting and fun 😭🙏
I love Shane's pronunciation of Krasnoyarskii Krai, it was actually really good! I lived in the city of Krasnoyarsk for a year and it's so beautiful there. Also, he's not wrong about the squirrels - there are SO MANY of them that Siberian Federal University (where I taught) has the squirrel as its mascot.
