Strive characters still feel super different especially since 95% of them still have a gimmick but the uniqueness is no where near plus r's level

Yeah I actually think Strive did a great job simplifying the characters while making them all feel unique. It's fun to hyper specialize in +R and then play a wide roster in Strive

Every Strive character goes for the same thing in the same way that SFV characters do, I wouldn't agree that they feel unique, even slightly. Having a few different specials doesn't make characters feel unique to play compared to the core of how their strings, movement, etc. goes

coming from NRS games, when i switched to strive i was able to immediately admire how unique each character in the game was. MK11 characters felt so one dimensional and when they had a gimmick they couldnt really build any gameplan around it and every character felt like they were just playing the same strike throw game besides the top tiers, who were unique characters. I fell in love with ino and enjoyed my time with her, then jacko, then happy chaos and i like completely mastered his kit and the art of the gun and he just felt like there was no one else like him. I then picked up testament, same thing where playing them just felt so good and no one else has a gameplan like them. Then asuka, which is honestly the most complex and unique char design ive seen for a fg character where each game playing him feels like its own minigame and its different every time. i love all these characters.

IMO Strive still very much has this identity to it. The characters all still feel largely unique from each other, and that's even with them being largely simplified. It's not perfect (While Baiken still feels unique in Strive, she's lost her defensive identity entirely and it feels worse to play than either prior iteration), but I believe it still makes every character feel like they're on a different wavelength. The same is true for a series like Blazblue, Arcsys is just really good at this style

Plus R characters feel so unique something that isn't really there in Strive. Yeah, each character is different but aside from the gimmickier characters that individuality from plus R and xrd is not as noticeable. The easiest example (from someone who’s played her for hundreds of hours) is Baiken, in previous games she stands out so much because she's a very defensive character on an aggressive fighting game. Playing and fighting Baiken was a completely different experience from the rest of the cast. But in Strive Baiken is an aggressive character like Sol Badguy with none of the defensive options that made her stand out so much from the cast. I’m not saying she's a bad character or that Strive is a bad game but that an aspect from previous entries has been lost in this game.
A little bit off topic but Strive and this last generation of arcsys fighting games is so weird. By trying to create more beginner friendly experiences they have made games that feel like they are afraid to be anime fighters but still have many of the elements that make the genre so complex.

Baikens tether is a pretty fun gimmick to engage with as someone fighting her and my friend that plays her loves the uniqueness of the tether.
I think strive characters super feel unique from one another but yea xrd and plus r are on a different level, it's not even funny. But those two games have characters that feel like different games and the only other game to do that was blazblue, with strive it's like they came from a different game but not quite, anyway I'll stop rambling

Reply if you'd like to play Plus R sometime, I've fallen out of love with GG as a series cause the games following Plus R/the XX series sucked, haha, but Plus R, Reload, Accent Core, still good games I sometimes play. I do like most of the characters in the game, there are none who are even remotely similar, even Sol/Order-Sol are drastically different in feel (more wide differences compared to say, Testament and Ky and everyone else in Strive), like, Sol isn't doing charge cancel pressure, Order-Sol isn't aiming for Clean Hits. I think as far as varied roster feel stuff goes, Plus R is good, though characters having core goals which aren't different isn't something I'd really say makes GG too special in the end of the day when like, SFII's been around for way longer. But interesting watch either way, got here from your hidden gems on Fightcade vid. Knew all the games, I'm in too deep, hahaha, but I liked seeing the Matrimelee recommendation, what a fun game

You know what? make a fighting game where there is the only one character, and they can do everything by having Dante level of moveset, and let the player decide how they play.
