@IronEchoDesign : Hey Rick, first of all, thank you so much for sharing your Inkscape knowledge. I've been using Inkscape for a few years, but mostly at a pretty basic level. I recently discovered your channel, and have been learning a ton of useful techniques! But I've noticed something that strikes me as a bit odd: it seems that you typically work way outside the page boundaries, and I'm curious as to why you do that. Of course, if your end goal is to export a bitmap image, the page doesn't really matter. But there are a lot of cases where it does, especially if you are doing print work. It seems to me (as an occasional freelance graphic designer) that in general it makes more sense to work within the constraints of the final output from the very beginning. Can you explain why you do it the way you do? If you've already done a video that addresses this question, feel free to just drop a link. Anyway, thanks again for everything!
Thank you so much. When I switched over from Photoshop years back I felt the same way about the Page and canvas. Even watching tutorials I was perplexed by the use “off page”. Even before I knew about Inkscape it irked me when I tried Adobe Illustrator and design was done all over the place and not necessarily the page. Something clicked though once I locked in to the tools, their functionality and my own design ideas. Rather than stack layer on layer on layer, trying out different design tweaks and organizing my workflow that way, going off Page in Illustrator or Inkscape gives free range of space, scale and iterations. I can see my projects evolve and move faster. It’s all personal preference. The Page is great to visualize the final project and some like having the design work take place in that space alone. It’s efficient and logical. Try going into the canvas open area and see it feels good or not. One of the best things in Inkscape is the flexibility it gives us.
Catching up on videos I missed recently. Thank you so much as always!!! Your tutorials are fab! Always tiny snippets of “oh that’s clever, why didn’t I think of that!” . Like reducing the circle size! Inkscape is so great but I always struggle at thinking how to apply the stuff. You’re brilliant at enlightening us. Thanks!
Hey Rick, that’s pretty cool! Can you touch upon isometrics to design chocolate boxes with folding lines and graphic? That would be great ahead of new year, for gifting
Another great video, as always!! Funny, I actually found something similar recently, but the video was older and used basic interpolation to achieve a similar effect. Awesome to see how far Inkscape has come and how the same effect is sooooo much simpler now - and has way more options. I'm going to have to have a play with some of those tiling buttons! :)
Thanks! That’s a cool idea. I’ll see if I can figure something out. I have a chrome text video where I added a sparkle. Not the same but the technique may be similar.
Rick - I need some advice. I have watched a number of your videos and recently tried to import my small business logo into Lightburn for laser engraving. The image outside of LIghtburn is fine, but when imported, it shows a number of boundary boxes that weren't there. I've tried a number of things but still can't seem to figure it out. Wondering if you would be willing to take a quick look at it and give me some advice? Thanks in advance.
I’m using Camtasia. It’s my favorite screen recording software and includes the cursor magnification tool. Here’s a link if you want to check it out: techsmith.z6rjha.net/ba9x0M
Hello. My name is Hachigatsu. I live in Russia . Komi Republic, Syktyvkar city. I recently started watching your channel, lessons on INKSCAPE. I really like your presentation of the material and how easily and most importantly intuitively you explain everything for a simple user who is just starting to learn INKSCAPE. I have a question. Which version of INKSCAPE do you think is the best and which version of INKSCAPE do you use? I am sorry for my English. Translated the text into Google Translator. Creative success to you! From Russia with love! Hachigatsu.
great video i need a little help, am on windows 11 , suddenly i can't type two words on my Inkscape canvas because when i hit the space bar the cursor moves backwards. ???

@caeliachapin5317 I like your question so much I want to shoot a video on it tonight or tomorrow night. Can I quote your comment? Thanks again.
@@IronEchoDesign Sure! If you need to say my name out loud, it's pronounced KAY-lee-ah.
Perfect. Going to a dinner tonight so I might record tomorrow, but I'll get it right. Thanks!

You always pick great content. Thank you!
Is there a way to make a rhinestone template in inkscape? It's a complicated process it seems.
Wow, this is great! Thanks.
Thank you!!

Thanks! I think the best version is 1.3. It has all the new features and is stable.

When I try to adjust the color schem it only changes the original and not the res of the swirl, what I did wrong?
great video

i just found out that its the font i chose "strikhand"
i changed it and its now ok
@gee_rex nice find! Some fonts don’t seem to play nice with Inkscape. Some of my favorites actually. Maybe there will be a workaround in the future.
