@@laguti17 Just too many artists ... :) I went for a similar genre to the Sweet Dreams... These are tunes that I could have played together what I was a DJ
This song has been played 100 times every Friday night at techno parties across London for decades. Un remixed as it was recorded, and everyone still goes wild.
The 80s were great as a kid. You’d go see the Dark Crystal, Return of the Jedi, Spielberg movies, gobble some Sweet Tarts, ride your bike to the mall, play Atari and listen to Eurhythmics, Men At Work, Cyndi Lauper and dozens more great bands on the radio.
Great decade. Magical decade. Like the first modern decade when technology really started advancing Music full of synths and drum machines, great cartoons great visual effects in movies like Never Ending Story etc
OMG! My comment comes a year later, but you crushed it so hard that I stopped breathing for a second, caught in the deep memories you've spun. Wow! And right on!

Annie and Dave get the gold star. Dave for the song writing, arrangement, performing, and production. Annie did the same thing as him but she’s the biggest and brightest gold star, really. Talent, beauty, and art, and that voice. That voice.
Annie Lennox is from my hometown of Aberdeen, Scotland. She has an amazing voice and has had a very prolific career. Both in and away from the Eurythmics.
Other great songs from Eurythmics: Who's that girl, Here comes the rain again, There must be an angel, Thorn in my side, just to name those. Who's that girl especially, so beautiful, so haunting.
YES!!!!!!!!!! Here Comes the Rain Again 🌧 💙 I have zero ability to sing but when this came on, or we played the record or tape in the car, I HAD to sing. Her voice and this beat makes it just come out. Lol THATS REAL MUSIC!
I’m glad you guys are watching the actual videos. It’s more enjoyable for you and for us. Most of us our visual learners and respond best to what we are seeing the song becomes even more impactful 😊
The Eurythmics is consists of David A. Stewart and lead singer Annie Lennox. This song was their first Top 40 hit in America. It went all the way to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the summer of 1983. Annie Lennox has one of the greatest female voices in pop music!!!
A lot of songs eventually faded from the radio, but this one kept resurfacing. It would even pop up on MTV now & then - long after its introduction. Eurythmics was a unique sound. It could even be quite addictive. It is premium electronic music. You might try "Love is a Stranger", "Who's That Girl", and "Here Comes the Rain Again". The videos are also a treat.
The Eurythmics were at the cutting edge of 1980’s new wave… their music videos went hand in hand with their songs…. Very enigmatic… My personal favorite is Love Is a Stranger…
Androgynous look was very common in the British Music scene around the early eighties apart from Annie Lennox we had Boy George Pete Burns to name a few.
One of the most famous uses of this song was in one of the Xmen movies where Quicksilver was saving students from an explosion at super speed. One of my favourite moments in cinema ever, it's so well done.
Iconic song of the 80s, played in clubs and MTV endlessly for years. If you want to see Annie show her singing chops, listen to her solo stuff , esp duet with Aretha Franklin. I believe this song influenced every 80s band for a decade. Cool early video too.
I think they were playing the cello in the video b/c they were replicating it with the synth but it's supposed to play the same role as a cello. Aside from obvious keyboard instruments the strings were probably the greatest aspect of the synth fad.
Eurythmics ushered in synthesizers, techno. Huge 80s hit. If someone asked me to remember music from the 80s, this song would be among them. Annie is stunning. I joined her YT channel over a year ago and she's been entertaining me ever since. Anything down this rabbit hole is worthy!! Lex you have an amazing ear...regarding the cello. 👍🏽❤

This song was groundbreaking at the time. Eurythmics brought the new wave synth pop sound to a new level with Annie Lennox’s soaring powerful and soulful vocals. Annie is in my opinion one of the premier female vocalists in pop history. Good reaction. I would encourage y’all to listen to their bop “Would I Lie To You?” for a flavor of their more upbeat side. Sweet Dreams is a haunting instant classic from one of the most creative artists of the 80’s.
I can attest to the dream part. This was the song of a summer. I remember driving the countryside in the heat, windows open, this on the radio. Definitely felt dreamlike.
Annie Lenox is awesome. Love this song. Classic 80's. This was during my high school days. Yeah, I'm old :) There are a lot of remakes of this and remixes. Some great ones.
This song has been covered many times and sonically rearranged over the years since they made it in the 80's. They are mainly known to people only by this song, but they have so many other great tunes.
Annie is actually a classically trained cellist who studied at the Royal college of music, but when the 80s synth music came into fashion with the advent of MIDI (MUSICAL INSTRUMENT DIGITAL INTERFACE) which allowed different keyboards, drum machines & digital sequencers to be link up together. A massive breakthrough in music ✌️
Would be fun if you did a reaction to Marilyn Manson's version of this song. His style fits perfectly with the vibe of this song. Fun fact: in his clip he is wearing a wedding dress

The second single I ever bought. My mother literally hated me for playing it over and over again. :-D Annie Lennox (the singer) and Dave Steward were a couple. They broke up and on the same day the wrote this song which became their greatest hit. They made music together during the 80s and had some more. What a great career.
"When androgyny wasn’t common". Oh my! Androgyny was common as dirt (and a popular fashion) in the early to mid 80s (and carrying over to the late 80s), especially among celebrities. Half of the pop stars I was into as a teenager (I’m nearly 50 now) were androgynous to a greater or lesser degree. At the time, the broader public viewed it as a fashion trend and but a lot of artists were quite subversive about gender norms and stereotypes. It was in the 90s that the blurring of gender lines stopped and reversed.
The Eurythmics song "Love is a Stranger", is a song you should add to your list. It'll give you a taste of Annie Lennox vocal range. She is an awesome vocalist! And you guys are excellent, keep having fun. 🤘
“Way” back then we didn’t get triggered by the artist clothes, just talent. I came home from college and was shocked when my dad recognized Boy George ! He was always into country, bluegrass, and gospel but recognized talent.
Annie Lennox- one of the most amazing vocal artists of the era. Start checking out versions of "It's alright, baby's coming back" and just immerse yourself in a velvet-over-iron voice.
This is the first music video that I ever saw. I was living in Germany as an Air Force brat. It was 1984 I was 9 and my neighbor received VHS tapes of Saturday morning cartoons and MTV from his grandma. It was a treasure trove, but this video led off off the tape. It always has a special place in my heart
It was from a time when being androgynous was prominent. Reference: look at Motley Crue or any of the hair metal bands at the same time. It was common for rock dudes to dress like chicks and ladies with short hair dressing in suits, but neither were cross dressing. David Bowie is one major influence for this look. It was confusing time to be a teenager, that i can tell you...
This song is from 1983, and she's right: That string instrument was just for show; it's not what you're actually hearing. The actual sound was made by a synthesizer. The entire song is keyboards/synthesizers.
Annie Lennox said that all their songs are composed acoustically first, then modified for all the other (modern) elements, bells, and whistles. Marilyn Manson covered it in the late 90s (very creepy and macabre), and it was also covered by Emily Browning as the main theme for the 2011 movie Sucker Punch (my favorite rendition).
Annie Lennox is the only vocalist on this recording. The lead and backup vocals are all her.
