The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

This "Special Edition" episode was hosted by Jack Jones after Ed Sullivan left the show at the end of March when it was announced the show would be cancelled. The New Seekers performed all three of their Melanie covers on this show in addition to the cover of this Elton John song. It was at this time they were recording what would soon be a giant hit in Europe called, "Never Ending Song Of Love" (a song recently released by Delaney & Bonnie in the States).
Melanie was on the final original show. I asked Melanie about it and she doesn’t know if it was the last Sullivan show she said I was on one of the very last ones
@@michaelrochester48 - Melanie was indeed on the final program hosted by Ed Sullivan on March 28th, 1971.
Awwee! Now wasn't that so beautiful and so adorable!
The New Seekers were my first favourite band , I was very lucky to go and see them at Chatham Central hall in Kent.
This is gorgeous. I just love them. Always have, since I was little. Always will.
Still my favourite vocal pop band
Such smooth harmonies as though their voices could be airbrushed!
they are all really good singers. I'd like to hear them cover anyone.
Talented band with some great covers, like "Pinball Wizard", "Beautiful People", and this song.
Super 👌
i first heard about them from an "Are You Being Served?" episode, when a band was brought in for Mr Grainger's anniversary dinner, and the band was a bunch of old women............Mr Lucas told Ms. Brahms "It's not the New Seekers, love, more like the Old Knockers"
Lovely vocals , they also did a lovely version of Circles by Harry Chapin.
Great vocalizations
Got The New Seekers "Anthology" (1970 - 1974) (2 CD set)!!
WOW, EXCELLENT 👍👍👍
They'd like to buy the world a Coke! 😄
Była wstawka " Pan Jerzy dzwoni " i wyłączyli komentarze - były dostępne bo czytałem wpisy - co jeszcze nie wygrali i nadal cenzura ?????
Hippies! I HAYE HIPPIES!
Who are the group who left the frame as soon as the New Seekers started to sing ?
Are the audience still there ? If each of us donate $ 1 for those who need !
The closest that Elton John ever came to appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show
When the girls start out they're very much off key. I was like WHOA!
Agree - ouch!
IMHO - Elton did it better....
Wow - that's an AWFUL version of the great Elton John song.
They should have left this song alone. I liked them better when they were teaching the world to sing in perfect harmony.
If Elton went to hell...
Love the New Seekers but this is the wrong song for them. Peter Doyle is singing flat and brings the rest down with him. See the look on Eve's face when the girls come in for the chorus, it's like, '' what the hell are we doing''
omg
