The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

R.i.p Melanie Safka, your music lives on.
The beautiful voice of Scottish singer Eve Graham the lead vocalist of The New Seekers.
Eve Graham really nailed this song, didn't she? Love the New Seekers.
Eve Graham - what a voice; what a lady. wow.
Best version of this song ever done. 👍
The New Seekers had an International hit with “I’d Like To Teach The World “ , which was a jingle for COKE, - and due to massive amounts of phone calls to radio stations, they finished it out, turned it into a fantastic full length song. - I believe , the only time that has ever happened.
📻🙂
I love it!!!🥰
Written by Melanie Safka, Rest in Peace beautiful Lady.
When the Ed Sullivan Show went to color in 1965, the audio got so much better, too. It's a shame that the Beatles missed the transition by one week and will forever be in so-so black and white from that show.
Before their success with Never Ending Song of Love in the U.K. in 1971, they were more popular in the USA.
That's Eve Graham from Scotland singing lead. Brilliant.
Yes, she's brilliant!
Absolutely Awesome
I was in love with her lol even though I was only 10 😂
Lovely singer and lovely song
Hello to Scotland 🏴
Beautiful voice and a sight for sore eyes ‼️😻😍❤
I love this song. The original was written and recorded by Melanie (Safka-Schekeryk). I think the lyrics are about the music industry and what they do to an artist's work.
Divina está canción!! Tantos recuerdos!!!
I fell in love with this beautiful lady and her voice in the 60`s and I have loved her ever since.
I liked her very much too and I understand why when I see this again.
Eve was my 1st crush at 7 years old just wow
Eve Graham, beautiful woman, beautiful voice, beautiful talent. Now as much as then.
I've watched/listened to this over & over but I'm really admiring this beautiful singer...did not even know about her before...awesome voice.
This must surely be very soon after Lyn, Peter and Paul joined. This clip is a treasure, and in wonderful clarity.
The New Seekers had a fascinating history starting with their initial success coming from this 1970 single in the US. Yet it didn't crack the UK top 40. But the following year they made it big in the UK with "Never Ending Song Of Love", while the US played the version by Delaney & Bonnie instead. Their releases would continue to be big in some countries & not others. But the two singles where the New Seekers & the world came together are: "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing" in 1971 and "Pinball Wizard/See Me Feel Me" in 1973. The latter is my favorite and is an amazing performance.
I agree - Their version of Pinball Wizard etc is superb - even Pete Townshend (from The Who) liked it.
My God, her beautiful voice!!! A great song and an even better presentation!
Song written by Melanie Safka
Melanie was so underrated. So were The New Seekers.
Great song, great band, with a magic Eve Graham
Wow. Absolutely fantastic song and one beautiful lady….
Eve Graham and Lyn Paul were previously in a band called The Nocturnes from 1966-69.
This is the best version on RUclips
So talented and beautiful, the amazing Eve and Lynn💚👋👋
What a Fantastic voice! I haven't heard this in a long time. "What Have You're Done to My Song." Isn't that the truth. What have they've done to all the songs today? Thank you for sharing! 💖
I still love Melanie's version of all of them ❤❤ I do like the trumpets tho
What a wonderful strong, pure voice. Eve is singing again mow & she still sounds fantastic !
What a joyous cabaret song from a better time.
ABBA unplugged 😂 actually more like a huge inspiration for ABBA a few years later, 2 girls one blonde one brunette, occasionally singing other languages, 2 guys playing guitar singing backup, ect ect ect, its so obviously true even more so during other videos for other songs.
Glorious color. 🙂
Nicely done. Makes me think of attending a late 60s or early 70s protest of some kind. Personally, I would replace "song" with "world".
Nice clean old Quad footage. Remarkable preservation for 51 years later.
@lonestarfriend
"Hear ! Hear ! on the "World"‼️👍🏼
Quite possibly the best version of this great song.
They did nothing to the arrangement. Is this an improvement to what Melanie wrote and sang? I don't think so.
@@alkholos And Melanie's voice was better.
@@bestintuba In the interest of full disclosure, I admit that I adore Melanie Safka. No one can really do justice to her songs. I think she's beyond brilliant. When she does covers, like Linda Ronstadt's "Long, Long Time" she somehow adds an element that is absolutely heart-wrenching, even though Linda's version is so much more polished.
@@bestintuba I can't argue with you. I thought Ms. Safka was and remains brilliant.
And then again, maybe not.
So love this!!
I was just 7 years old when this song was released in the UK but Wow what talent The New Seelers had.
That's when I fell in love with The New Seekers 🎶😍🤩
This video looks different from usual Ed Sullivan videos because it was a special show with acts from around the world paying tribute to the 25th anniversary of the United Nations. The New Seekers were representing Australia. Notable is the fact that the original Seekers were also on Ed Sullivan in the 60s.
The New Seekers had no connection to Australia, all British and the singer very Scottish, of course the original Seekers were Australian.
@@toddy505 Nope ! you are wrong, Peter Doyle was Australian, Marty Kristian was born in Germany, but the family moved to Australia when he was very young. Both had a career over there before they moved to the UK
I remember this group! I also remember Dad asking "But what happened to the Old Seekers"? He thought he was a comedian!!!
this group couldn't carry the real Seekers luggage
@@jong0000 They were much more versatile AND they had 2 fabulous lead singers with Eve Graham and Peter Doyle
@@SallyWilliams You can't possibly be serious... Judith Durham is the greatest female vocalist ever. This woman isn't even close....jeez. AS for versatility, take a listen to Judith's jazz records...
@@jong0000 we are talking about the bands. you probably don't know a lot of their recordings
@@SallyWilliams I have everything the real band recorded, and much of what the phony "band" did. Comparing this woman to Judith Durham is absurd..
Look what they've done to my world,
Now so far away from this magic.
True Classic!! Nice Vocal Jammin!
WHAT A VOICE..... Awesome !!!
The lovely Eve Graham, a beautiful performance from a superb group - a pity though that Gary `the prat` Linaker was on base guitar..
The best singer on RUclips that no one knows their name.
Eve Graham ❤
This band had some great covers-. Their versions of "Beautiful People", "Morning Has Broken.","Mrs Robinson", and "Pinball Wizard" were remarkable.
Add "One" and "Your Song"- great music and it's all on youtube
Their version of "Pinball Wizard/See Me Feel Me" is superb. Even Pete Townshend thought it pretty good, I gather.
My mother had a couple of their records when I was a kid - I think now that I played them more than she did! Great for a little girl to sing along with and pretend to be a star - good memories 😁
Slowing this down to 0.5 speed around 1 minute in, is a trippy experience!
Awesome.. Thanks from NZ 👍🇳🇿
Melanie una cantautora, Eva Graham una solista incomparable ,gran versión
☀️💛God showed up
A Sr. Trolling & That right there is Underrated AM Radio Music& Lyrics.,,Tku!👍
it's FRENCH that they sing in the refrain
Look what they’ve done to our society, God! Look what they are now doing to our children’s brains, Pa.
There IS a book we can live in, but society rejects it, Pa!
I wondered about "The Seekers" and "The New Seekers" and yes there is direct relationship; Keith Potger being a member of "The Seekers" developed the group, "The New Seekers" after the breakup of the singing group, "The Seekers."
RIP Melanie.
RIP Melanie Safka, the writer of this song - when it came out I always thought - what have they done to her song - LOL!
4th of the groups the sneakers are in a class of Their Own they are both very good
That's great, I'm came early
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
bet that was a disappointment...
The New Seekers also had Barry McGuire of Eve of Destruction fame (1964) sing with them for a while!
I miss the amazing audio clarity that we enjoyed prior to digital. You will not get this quality from any source today. Audio engineers explain?
As an audio engineering student, I recall being told that it's because digital recordings use a much lower quality of dilithium crystals in the flux capacitors. No really....! 😊
je trouve cette interprétation bien meilleure que celle de mélanie...
I had a big boy crush on Eve.
I saw them 3 times in one week 1972
Lineup
Marty kristian
Peter Doyle
Paul layton
Eve graham
Lynn paul
The only version that gets close to Melanie
This song was Melanie's, hah?
She had perfect teeth.
Can someone send me the full erogram? where great artists participated.

This was the top 20 hit for them, but they are way more famous for doing I’d like to teach the world to sing, the Coca-Cola theme song
In the UK, their second chart topper was 'You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me' (1973).
They came second at the Eurovision Song Contest a year before with 'Beg, Steal Or Borrow'. These days UK usually are at the bottom of the pile at this event.
@@hanno-erdmanntietz8424 - Like everything else, Eurovision has succumbed to politics.
@@shyman99 Absolutely. This regrettable trend began in 1968 with Spain's Massiel coming out on top (major fraud) and has grown worse over the years, especially since the 1990s.
@@hanno-erdmanntietz8424 Abba redeemed the Eurovision contest. They are song was unique and was more rock oriented
The late Peter Doyle born July 28 1949 died in 2001
Look what my agent did to me ma he told me to leave the band 😢😢😢
Hello
So Melanie didnt record this with the New Seekers back in 1970. Melanie recorded her version in 1972? And she wrote the song/
Melanie didn't record "her version" as it's her song, released in 1970. Everyone else had 'their' version.
The Seekers and Melanie competed on the charts with this song. But Ray Charles, who had a LOT of stuff done with his songs, gave it a gravitas neither of these songs could.
Nice looking group; great sounding sound. And I especially love this Melanie composition. Reminding now of what this current deplorable administration is doing to our Republic here in America.
MAGA tears
@@Tawroset We don't bother wit tears; they just get in the way of progress.
Progress? You're enforcing laws written when my great-great grandmother was still in the womb. I bet you're the smartest guy in the trailer park lol.
Too bad Melanie was never on Ed's show. (I don't think she was, but correct me if that's wrong.)
Melanie was on the Ed Sullivan show twice! First time singing Peace Will Come surrounded onstage by her adoring fans. Second singing Ruby Tuesday which just so happened to be the very last official Sullivan show!
Who is the "they" in this song?
"singing in foreign language" lol :P
This is EXACTLY what Melanie was complaining about in this song!
This is not the Ed Sullivan Show.
Look what they've done to my song, ma
Look what they've done to my song
Well, it's the only thing that I could do half right
And it's turning out all wrong, ma
Look what they've done to my song
Look what they've done to my brain, ma
Look what they've done to my brain
Well, they picked it like a chicken bone
And I think I'm half insane, ma
Look what they've done to my song
I wish I could find a good book to live in
Wish I could find a good book
Will if I could find a real good book
I'd never have to come out and look at
What they've done to my song
Look what they've done to my song
But maybe, it'll all be all right, ma
Maybe, it'll all be okay
Well, if the people are buying tears
I'll be rich someday, ma
Look what they've done to my song
Look what they've done to my song, ma
Look what they've done to my song, ma
Well, they tied it up in a plastic bag
Turned it upside down, ma
Look what they've done to my song, ma
Ma, look what they've done to my song
It's the only thing I could do all right
And they turned it upside down, oh ma
Look what they've done to my song
Dude looks like Kurt Cobain
Great voice, but still prefer Judith Durham of the original Seekers
Melanie song
This is a cover of a Melanie song.
The beginning was sort of sweet, but really a disappointment.... then @2:33 Eve opened up.. . and wow!
A great singer, now a window dresser.

It's OK but Melanie's original is so much better!
I'm not criticizing Melanie here because Ms. Safka, in her prime, not only had a great voice, but she really knew how to deliver the goods. But for this song, I think Eve Graham's vocal is even better. They're both great. You can't wrong with either.
A lovely song of mental illness.............omg
Melanie did this song so much better.
no the seekers did it better
