The whole reason you never see Truman after he walks out the door is because nobody is able to watch him anymore. He's free to live his own life. So all you can do is just imagine it.

I'm surprised that viewers don't start feeling guilty when they see that Truman is starting to figure things out. They have been contributing in invading his privacy.
It's only right that they don't get to see Truman anymore after his exit.
At least they were happy that he finally gets to live his life on his terms.

Yes but we can still make our own theories about what happened to him right after that, even out of the show he most definitely was still a celebrity in the real world and he probably sued that sick director and the whole staff for what they did to him, the first 30 years of his life were just “a show” and I think then he would become the owner of that whole fake city in the process and he would use that for a good cause like giving it to homeless people and then he probably made a law or something making that sort of thing illegal and then went after his dream to travel the world and do the things they never let him do inside that dome, he most likely reencountered Sylvia and they got together and she helped him adapt himself to reality, I can imagine Truman becoming a sort of Ronan Farrow that fights against child celebrities exploitation in Hollywood

@@ronfehr7899 "Beyond the Screenplay" podcast makes a great point in their episode about "The Truman Show" discussing their fascination that the movie never really condemns or vilifies the home TV-viewing audience, never really takes a moral stance on the ethicacy of the viewers. On the *show creators and staff* certainly, but not the folks staring at their screens in private. I agree that's interesting, how the show is sort of meant to give them comfort, and how most of them don't seem to wish Truman any harm. I'd love to hear that discussed more.

My favourite part of watching reactions to this film is the irony of people being shocked or annoyed that they don't get to see what happens when he finally escapes the camera's after spending the film commentating on how horrible a situation it is for Truman and how bad people are for watching it for so long.

You can see Marlon is not happy lying to Truman. A deleted scene has Marlon find Truman when he makes a break for it, but diverts people and says goodbye to give him a chance.
I love the religious connotations at the end. "I am the Creator...of a television show....", Truman walking on water, etc; Glad Truman and Sylvia finally get a chance.

Keeping in mind that Marlon has been on the show since he was seven; Assuming he needed parental consent, He was most likely put on by them as a child star. Think of how badly a lot of child actors turn out from just one or two films; Marlon's life is almost as fake as Truman's was, except he knows it. Imagine growing up knowing you were lying to someone who believed you were their closest friend.

It's also important to take into account that this movie was released just a few years before "reality" tv shows like The Big Brother (and all the different clones and variations that followed) exploded in popularity. So the movie was almost prescient in investigating a kind of theme that was going to become socially and culturally relevant in just a few years.
And I find very interesting that all these reaction channels are basically the grand-children of those "reality" TV shows. After all, the appeal is almost the same: to watch how people react emotionally to something that the viewer himself/herself has already experienced in his own life.

I imagine that a lot of the extras were fans of the show who were willing to appear for little or no payment, hence why they weren't very good at acting or improvising when Truman was being random. This can explain why people were able to infiltrate the show so easily, like the "dead" father and the guy hiding in the oversized present: they pretended to be fans who were willing to work for free.

One thing that Christoff doesn't really consider is, what's the point of continuing the show once Truman discovers the truth.
Sure they could continue it, but it wouldn't be the same anymore. Truman wouldn't behave naturally because he would always know that he was being watched. And I'm sure he wouldn't intentionally allow himself to de viewed 24/7.

    • @anthonyleecollins9319

I agree -- his desire to keep the show going, even if it would inevitably fail, just shows that he (Christof) needs the show at this point way more than Truman does, or way more than an audience would. This has been thirty years of his life, too. I think Ed Harris gave a great performance here.

What's sad is the Truman show was very prophetic, predicting the future. Many people have family vlogs and their kids are raised in odd simulated situations to post videos and get views. Even child actors in a way are becoming more and more like Truman with real life and their career lives being more similar and harder to distinguish due to social media bridging that gap. Many of us who use social media willingly give corporations simulations of our lives that they monetize and place ads on like people who use Facebook or Instagram. Some people are performance artists online like they play a characters such as poppy or RUclipsrs like Miranda Sings and the alter egos with vlogs start to again bleed together. Some people have tried pushing vlogging to be as much like the Truman show as they can possibly do. And with so many people using others for clout, those popular online or celebrities are gas lit by friends and family when those people just want to soak up some of that attention the person who is popular gets. And maybe more sad is at the end of the film, the security guards just want to watch what's next. All entertainment is quickly disposed

There's a deleted scene, where the cast was talking about how they needed to Truman have a kid so give him another reason to stay; and when he dies, make a show secuel with the kid. And the only one who look concerned about that idea was the "best friend", not even the "mom" or the new love interest (and also the future mother of the new prisoner), just the "best friend".

The area is colloquially known as South Walton; businesses will have "(on) 30A" in the name because of the highway it's on, Highway 30A. I was raised by abusive parents who joined a Christian fundamentalist cult when I was 6. When I was 19, I got married to an abusive man who was also in/raised in the cult.
On the 27th, it will be 4 years since I left the cult; I left my husband, my family, and moved away from the area 3 weeks after (got officially divorced a year later). I've never looked back.
So...I relate to Truman in a lot of ways. The heavy, HEAVY gaslighting, not so much the show part (but also a little bit because I was taught that humanity on earth is basically God's Sea Haven, which was terrifying to think about because it meant He saw everything, knew my every thought, was ready to dole out consequences for minor offences while simultaneously excusing the large amount of abuse my siblings and I went through).
Idk, it's hard to think about specific ways that I relate, but if I were to have a back-and-forth conversation with someone who asked me questions, I could probably explain it better.
Anyway, this movie is a masterpiece and I ADORE Jim Carrey.
Edit: My favorite lines are "We accept the reality with which we are presented" and "You never had a camera in my head!" and of course the last "In case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night."

Hey Sophie! Greetings from Russia. I love watching your reactions. I want to recommend you the movie "Last Holiday" with Queen Latifah, it's one of my favorite movies. If you haven't watched it yet, of course. The film is beautiful and very inspiring, I like to watch it from time to time when I feel sad or want to motivate myself. All the best!

You gotta know about Reality Shows. It was huge in the 90's. The Truman Show was meant to be the Ultimate Reality Show. To have such a huge dome(place), and maintain everything(technological, actors/employees, etc), product placing advertisement/marketing was definitely necessary. How many businesses were trying to get advertised in the most watched TV reality show?
On the same venue, how many actors/employees gained their livelihood working on that reality show? How many lost their job suddenly when it ended?
This is a movie, were when re-watching it, scenes look different. For example, when you look at Jim Carrey's face after his friend mentions himself being part of that lie/when hugging his dad again. His tears at that moment seems to carry a different weight. At least for many, after watching the movie at least once.

Wow, such a good reaction, I would be happy if you would react to classics besides this animated stuff and I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one (first recommendation from me in this category: A Bronx Tale/1993).
As for the movie, I'd just like to add that it was part of the concept that, just like the audience in "The Truman Show", we only see what goes on in the fake world created for Jim Carrey's main character, which is why there was no reunion to see at the end.

The real interesting part is we, the physical audience, are also being manipulated. We know we're being manipulated, and we still fall for it. Everyone wanted to see that reunion between Truman and Sylvia even though we just cheered for Truman fighting for his freedom to not be watched any more.

I'm fairly new to the channel, so I'm still going through the movies you've already reacted to, so I don't really have any recommendations yet. But I personally will always support live action movies for reaction channels. Some of my favorite movies and shows are live action. Just don't let the comments bully you into skipping movies if you want to see them. Unfortunately, a vocal minority will tell you that "After ______ movie, everything else in the franchise is trash," or something similar when dealing with big franchises. React to what you would like to see. Hopefully your subscribers will encourage you to watch even movies they may not like, just to let you make up your own mind. 🤞

When you commented on the poster in the travel agency I was you're going to understand in a bit. The director in the movie tried to act like he was god the way he manipulated everything The director of the film has only done a few others but i can recommend them all .
Dead poet society with Robin Williams another film where a comedic actor was in a dramatic role
    Witness
    Master and commander

It would be great to see you do a reaction for UPGRADE 2018 its a very underrated movie and i can tell you it's definitely one of the best 21st century sci-fi movie. Only just 3 million dollars budget they managed to make something much brilliant and much better than most Hollywood movies these days. I highly recommend for you to see it 👍
Here is some others movies that i definitely
want to see you do a reaction 😊👍
    *Speed Racer*
    *Deep Blue Sea*
    *Ninja Assassin*
    *Dark City*
    *Reign of Fire*
    *Tron Legacy*
    *Vantage Point*
    *Inside Man*
    *Burn After Reading*
    *LA Confidential*
    *Den of Thieves*
    *Pain & Gain*
    *Cube 1997*
    *Exam*
    *Eagle Eye*
    *Crank & Crank High Voltage*
*Black Hawk Down* the ending of this very inaccurate because the US army didn't "save themself" from the war. A foreign military from Malaysia helped them from getting killed and saved them, you can look it up on the internet. Hollywood and directors should definitely show what really happened based on real event like this war,it's an absolute disgrace for them to show something that is very wrong from what happened. Yes, I'm from Malaysia 😊😄

I watched the movie in school in ethic lesson and afterwards we needed to write a homework about truth and fake and which we would prefer and why? Obviously i chose truth and Real. I mean who wouldnt. Maybe the World is not perfect but having the choice over your own path, isnt that worthwhile a little bit of chaos and mishaps? That makes the World interesting and life an adventure even if in real World you choose a deskjob. That doesnt mean that your life will be ordinary and boring. Let people choose their own path and if they dont wa t to be harassed by paparazzi then for heaven Sake: leave them alone. Privacy is a rigth! ❤
