@@loganshaw4527You know, this movie doesn't need a sequel at all but I was thinking to myself one day if someone were to make a sequel to The Truman Show that's exactly what it should be about. I had to analize this movie in my English class, and one of the many things I found interesting is that trueman is not the only person trapped in the world, other people who are also trapped is truemans wife and best friend and even the creator is trapped himself. and once trueman finally gets out they are free to leave as well. which makes me think that after a few years they started to belive in the reality as well so they can cope with always being there. even if they knew the truth they had to lie to themselves to be okay with living in the doom.
But we're they really trapped? When they weren't involved directly with what Truman was doing, they didn't necessarily have to be on set. This movie is deep, and I am honestly fascinated that it was allowed to be created by Holywood, because it is TRUTH! You know when I used to walk to catch the bus in the morning, every morning there was a crossing. Every morning, there would be cars arriving at EXACTLY the time I would arrive at the crossing. There would be nothing, but then when I needed to cross the road, four cars would be there. It didn't matter what time I'd go either. Once I reached the crossroads, cars would start appearing. And I did this for YEARS! Then COVID hit and now I no longer have to go to the office as often, so I guess those guys don't have to drive as often!
Great reaction Evie! It's so interesting to watch this again through your commentary and questions. It is twisted and incredibly clever, and I'm guessing inspirational (for the wrong reasons) to TV executives at the time - because shortly after The Truman Show came out, the biggest reality shows made their debut, "Big Brother" and "Survivor"
It's a metaphor for the subconscious mind. The thing that holds us back and fills us with irrational fear and self doubt. You live in a version of reality you think you deserve. The goal is to convince the subconscious you deserve better.

@shinrapresident7010 I don't know about that, it's a perfectly reasonable opinion. It's also right. It was underrated. Unfortunately it suffered as a result of being wrongly marketed People went to the movie expecting a zany Ace Ventura-esque Jim Carey comedy and got a black comedy with thriller elements instead

@nsasupporter7557 the fact that reviews are positive is a testament to how it is underrated because it is often avoided in discussions or screenings of Carey's work now. Modern reviews tend to be listed as "mixed to average" If Cable Guy is appropriately rated nowadays then that would indicate it is a mediocre movie at best. It may well be that but if it is a good movie then definitely the way it is rated now is unjustified

A lot of people like to give Marlon a free pass in the whole deal, but he was a child actor ,just like any kid hired for a TV show. He knew it was all fake, his getting fed lines, giving the fake tears while spouting them to Truman. He did what he did for the production. Marlon was just as much trash like the rest of them, his wife, his mom.. he betrayed Truman on so many ways, this shows how people in general are a poor judge of character in life, why people have toxic friends, toxic relationships and stay in them, they want to turn a blind eye to misdeeds and betrayal of a relationship for those little fleeting 'good times".
When I first saw this film I took it to be an allegory of spiritual awakening (still do). In a nutshell, we come into the world and our training' (brainwashing) into the 'normal life' starts immediately. We're supposed to do what others do - get an education, get a job, marry and have children. Our lives become a series of repetitions without question. But sometimes 'reality' pokes through the facade (synchronicity, deja vu,, a peak experience, spiritual teachings, etc.) and we start to question things. The beginning of awakening is when we realize we have more control of our lives and the 'external world' than we thought (symbolized when Truman stops traffic by holding up his hands). We start questioning, investigating, and testing reality. Finally to escape from our self-imposed prison we have to be willing to give up everything we've been conditioned to value - safety, comfort, etc. and overcome fear. To take the final step into the true reality we have to be willing to give up our very lives. The final scene has several references to Christ - the apparent walking on water, the ascension up the steps, and Truman's final pose before he leaves for the next level (true reality): a crucifixion pose with arms straight out to the sides. I always suspected they chose the name Truman' because it shows the path to becoming a "True Man" (fully human). There are many other parallels and clues in the details including Gnostic references (the fallen star 'Sirius, Christof as the demiurge and Silvia as Sophia) , but you get the picture. Given an interview I saw a few years back with Carey talking about his own spiritual path and beliefs I'm pretty certain he sees the film that way too.
1) Since they control the waves/wind flow, and Truman's boat is windsailing, they could've do it to make him go around. 2) In that exit dark room, security dudes disguised could've trap/kidnap/drugged him so he would wake up un the hospital with his dad, and a new cooked up story. So when he wakes up, they can expect Truman to be properly gaslighted...again. 3) Many people actually forget the 1st 2 minutes of the movie, the first time watching.
I love and follow all you reactions. I have only one comment.. "How so many millions have watched Truman Show and never had a pause to think of our reality? Media..News.. events..crisis..???!! does not click anything similar??
Just as crazy and frightening as when Neo finds out about the "real world" in "The Matrix"❕ ... perhaps, more scary. 😮 This, if one zooms out to a bigger picture ... one could interpret this as anyone living in a "limited space / world" ... all comes back to the questions: What is real? How much can real be? What is the truth out there?
If I remember well, it was a remake of a French movie. Maybe that's one of the reasons why you found it so twisted (since most people are used to Hollywood-style movies).
@@WallyHartshorn yes, he only had 3 successful dramatic movies… Truman Show, Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. He made other dramatic movies like The Majestic and Number 23, but those were flops unfortunately

The most twisted thing is how a normal, healthy human woman could FAKE and manipulate an entire marriage. The other actors play temporary roles and are called on que when needed, but having to live with Truman in a lie, a guy so innocent and pleasant is just insane. They must have selected her too from a psych ward lol
Also in my opinion, his "wife" never has feelings or desire, but she always wanted to have a child with him. Especially his mother, who never said from the beginning that it was just a reality show. I find his mother and also his "wife" sick, disgusting and malicious. I love the feature film. Sorry for my English, I only had it at school.
The phrase "adopted by a corporation" is absolutely horrifying but really... what power would that give the corporate world over him that they don't already have over all of us? Do you feel like you really control anything? I don't. I can decide, meaningless things, sure, do I want spaghetti or Taco Bell for dinner? Should I buy a Ford or a Toyota? They're all products though, all the corporate monsters get their share.... assuming it isn't all one big overlord. Sorry, sometimes I ramble.
Even if the show would have continued, it wouldn't have been the same. Truman now knew the truth, so how could he just react normally knowing that now?
Always excited when you upload! Would it be possible to increase the sensitivity of your mic because your voice comes across faint (I always have to max my volume to make out what you say)? Thank you for sharing another reaction with us!
They audience is happy because we are the audience. You're watching the movie, aren't you? You were happy when Truman finally got to leave, right? And you, the audience, were happy to see Truman finally leave. Because they live in the Truman show, too. They haven't learned how to escape, even when you sitting there watching a movie explicitly about escaping the hollywood machine, you still just go "well, what else is on."
We can't blame the "creator" or even corporations for what they did with Truman's life. I mean it's disgusting but I would say those ordinary people who watched the show are the ones to blame. When the show came to the end people only were concerned if there was something else they could consume and waste time on. And sadly in real life we are no different. People like to pretend that they care or think that they are emphatic. This movie also tells us a bit about human nature, not necessarily a nice thing and to be proud of.
There are so many ethical issues with doing this to a human. Crazy idea for a movie though. And Jim Carey was made to play this part. The movie itself was ok. Not carey’s best movie but not his worst either.

@@jaydisqus3353uh… I’m not sure what you’re talking about, it’s not an opinion… it’s a proven fact Truman Show is one of the most popular movies ever, all you have to do is pay attention to public perception, it’s not my fault that you don’t and that you live under a rock and you can’t tell the difference between an opinion and truth. Let me ask you something, buddy… do you even know what “underrated” means?
@@nsasupporter7557 no matter how much you claim fact, it is in fact an opinion. I'm sure some people hate it. which makes it an opinion.
@@jaydisqus3353 but that doesn’t take away the FACT that most people love it, genius! 😉
I get that there are probably some people who don’t love it but the majority of people do! I’ll say it again… this is one of the most beloved movies ever, it is not underrated at all. If I was as dumb as you I’d go get a brain from Frankenstein’s lab
You were not really suppose to know he's on a tv show.... It was supposed to be strange, until it is slowly revealed. In '98, it was very original and new.
That's what happens when people choose spoilery taglines for their movie posters.
@@LtDan-rk4si They sort of tell you...with huge gaps at the extent and nature of the arrangement.... He's on a TV show, is all you know. But, I hear you.
@@LtDan-rk4si You also don't know that it's involuntary based on that initial dialogue. Tagline should have left that out.
Didn't really bother me, I still enjoyed it a lot!! :)
It's plenty obvious 5 minutes in. There was never any attempt at hiding the premise.
I'd like to think her running st the end was her going "shit I've gotta go to Fiji so he can find me" but it's likely she can just turn on a news channel to find where he is; doing an interview asking people the direction to Fiji.
Well, she was on the show, so she knows where the set is located.
@PhilBagels I meant.. if the set is 12 hours drive away from her.. she would want to get to Fiji because he might make it to Fiji in 12 hours looking for her since where else would be be able to go really. I'm sure any random guy who knows Truman would buy him a ticket or even have a private jet to take him to Fiji asap
For a twist on the premise, check out “Free Guy” with Ryan Reynolds. A really fun movie.
Ryan Reynolds will never be half of the star that Jim Carrey is
@@nsasupporter7557 This is the 3rd time I THINK you said the same thing when I mentioned “Free Guy.”
@@matthewgrady3423 👍
Truman was digging the hole that he got out of in the beginning.
Simply there are thoughs who think they can control others but no matter what you can't manufacture love. And you can't stop free will.
So many reactors talk too much and miss what's happening. So many reactors don't understand that we can see your reaction in your face without you pontificating about your own personal anecdotes.
You get it. Thanks for your reaction.
So many people ruin the experience of this movie by looking up what it's about, instead of finding out the way it was intended...by Watching It.
Ohh interesting!

I think this is the most emotion I've *ever* seen you express. 😅
It's a metaphor for the subconscious mind. The thing that holds us back and fills us with irrational fear and self doubt. You live in a version of reality you think you deserve. The goal is to convince the subconscious you deserve better.
The Cable Guy is another of Jim Carey’s imo, underrated gems.
No it wasn’t, Cable Guy is labeled as a flop but it really wasn’t… especially today.
Almost every review of Cable Guy says they love it
I think it's more likely that this is an AI bot programmed to test peoples reaction to someone liking The Cable Guy rather than someone actually liking that movie.
@shinrapresident7010 I don't know about that, it's a perfectly reasonable opinion.
It's also right. It was underrated.
Unfortunately it suffered as a result of being wrongly marketed
People went to the movie expecting a zany Ace Ventura-esque Jim Carey comedy and got a black comedy with thriller elements instead
@@ProcInc no it’s not underrated! Me, Myself and Irene was more underrated than Cable Guy… people like to say that Cable Guy was a flop, but it really wasn’t. Yes, people were disappointed with it at the time it came it but the point is it’s not as underrated as you think. The reviews that I always read about it are always very positive… there’s alot of people who love it. Like I said… Me, Myself and Irene was more underrated
@nsasupporter7557 the fact that reviews are positive is a testament to how it is underrated because it is often avoided in discussions or screenings of Carey's work now. Modern reviews tend to be listed as "mixed to average"
If Cable Guy is appropriately rated nowadays then that would indicate it is a mediocre movie at best.
It may well be that but if it is a good movie then definitely the way it is rated now is unjustified
Its disturbing that everyone in Truman's personal life don't genuinely care about him. Their sociopaths
22:03 a domestic dispute really is the best moment for a beer advert
Cute that the focus was on the need for Marlon to be an actor, when it was really the need for Noah Emmerich to be an actor.
The twist part is: Our world is a Truman show, humanity is the star and if we absolutely determined to discover the truth, it would be peace on Earth.
This is one of my favorite Jim Carrey dramatic roles or whatever you want to call it genre of his he did a phenomenal job in this movie it's one of my all-time favorites second favorite is internal sunshine of the spotless mind is another one of my favorite movies with him in it with Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet ❤

Very happy to see this, easily one of my favorite movies
Yes, it’s one most everybody’s favorite movies
On the kitchen counter, theres a jar of Vitamin D pills, because nobody's getting any real sunlight from living on the set.
there actually a lot to this movie and I watched it 3 times and dint realize the thing that fell was a stage light not sure how I missed that.
Yay! Evie watching something I've seen. 🙂
You're fun and funny. 🤣
Great reaction & commentary. 👍

I love and follow all you reactions. I have only one comment.. "How so many millions have watched Truman Show and never had a pause to think of our reality? Media..News.. events..crisis..???!! does not click anything similar??

Fantastic film. Great reaction. I hope you will watch “Kramer vs Kramer”. Nobody has reacted to that yet.
Another underrated Jim Carrey film is 'Cable Guy' It was so far ahead of its time that nobody bought into the premise of the show.
Just as crazy and frightening as when Neo finds out about the "real world" in "The Matrix"❕ ... perhaps, more scary. 😮
This, if one zooms out to a bigger picture ... one could interpret this as anyone living in a "limited space / world" ... all comes back to the questions: What is real? How much can real be? What is the truth out there?
On a second viewing, you'll see all the hidden cameras in his environment!
My favorite Jim Carrey Movie.Truman Show!!! This movie had me thinking even after the movie ended.
Yes, it’s his most beloved dramatic movie
If I remember well, it was a remake of a French movie. Maybe that's one of the reasons why you found it so twisted (since most people are used to Hollywood-style movies).
29:30. If they captured him, they would probably pump him full of drugs to keep him there.
Could you imagine the power trip the Christof character was on for 30 years?
"Nothing to fear" is not the same as "Something to live for."
It’s interesting that they named him “true man”.
Great to see you react to this one. And you got on quickly :D
By far Carey's best film.
It’s his best dramatic movie, yes
It’s very good, but I think “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” is even better.
@@WallyHartshorn yes, he only had 3 successful dramatic movies…
Truman Show, Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. He made other dramatic movies like The Majestic and Number 23, but those were flops unfortunately
He tried to leave using the travel agent and the bus. How about by car? When they physically restrained him! With a net!!!
First time watching one of your videos. First of all I like your accent, but I enjoy how you seem to put your full attention on what you are reacting to, rather than mining for a canned response like most reaction channels. You also seem quite perceptive. I see you have reacted to Breaking Bad, and that is my favorite show, so I will definitely be subbing and watching those as well!
Your expressions here are hilarious. Wonderful reaction -- sorry I'm only seeing this just now!
This is the most popular dramatic Jim Carrey movie
Fun fact: 'Good buddy' and I share a birthday.
i always wondered how long that one viewer has been in that bath. He must be wrinkled like crazy.
Why hasnt Ed Harris won and Oscar? Tragic
Well he’s just a character actor… but I guess that doesn’t mean he can’t win an Oscar though
He won the Golden Globe for this performance, plus awards from several other groups.
He's locked in a world where he's conditioned to stay in his box and his life is a series of adverts? I wonder what that would be like. Subscribe!
Does this movie make anybody else question their entire lives and make them feel paranoid someone is watching them?
Even if the show would have continued, it wouldn't have been the same. Truman now knew the truth, so how could he just react normally knowing that now?
Always excited when you upload! Would it be possible to increase the sensitivity of your mic because your voice comes across faint (I always have to max my volume to make out what you say)? Thank you for sharing another reaction with us!
Always been my favorite movie ❤
So the earth is flat after all. The sky is just a painted wall.
Awee.. you already know. :( Half the fun is watching someone try to figure out what is going on...

Great movie but it is messed up.
👍
We can't blame the "creator" or even corporations for what they did with Truman's life. I mean it's disgusting but I would say those ordinary people who watched the show are the ones to blame. When the show came to the end people only were concerned if there was something else they could consume and waste time on.
And sadly in real life we are no different. People like to pretend that they care or think that they are emphatic. This movie also tells us a bit about human nature, not necessarily a nice thing and to be proud of.
The ones who watched the show would’ve never been to blame if not for the creator 😂
And to think, his wife Meril, was a paid actor. And she had to agree to have sex with him whenever he wanted to play the wife part.
🤠
There are so many ethical issues with doing this to a human. Crazy idea for a movie though. And Jim Carey was made to play this part. The movie itself was ok. Not carey’s best movie but not his worst either.
